- Q: I have a large black rug. The hairs in it are impossible to get out! I've tried vacuuming AND brooming. The hairs won't budge. Does a professional need to clean it or can I clean it myslef? Thanks.
- If you have the funds, buy a steam cleaner - good ones can be found for less than $200. Get one of the ones with the brushes that swirl around to pull out the hair. I got mine at Target for $168 and it doesn wonders on my carpet, even with two dogs and two kids!
- Q: Hi yahoo answers give me a suggestions to remove the rugs from the carpet..
- Do you mean rugs - pick them up and more them. Or bugs.... Insecticide.....
- Q: Looking to save money carpeting 3 small rooms, can I use the carpet tile over padding?
- Carpet tiles usually have some adhesive on the bottom so they can stick to a concrete floor. I think over padding they would be too uneven and cause tripping. Remove the padding and just put them directly on the floor.
- Q: are there any home made recipes i can use for removing stains out of the carpet?thanks.
- when you're trying to remove a spot, you need to subtract, not add. vaccuum the carpet when it's dry. then use a damp white towel. If this isn't doing much, you can go to non-ammonia windex or rubbing alchohol. avoid any other detergents or over-the counter spot removers, as they can set spots in or cause bleaching(and yes, oxi- labeled cleaners can do that too). some spots are permanent, but if you avoid harsh chemicals, a pro will at least have a fighting chance. Using the harsh chemicals can eliminate that chance.
- Q: how do I find out how much its worth?
- You could take it to an antique store or oriental rug shop and get it appraised. You could do an E-Bay search for oriental rugs. You could search online for prices. You could take a picture and send it to the Antique Road Show.
- Q: I recently bought an ikea rug, which isn't exactly an area rug, but is big enough not to put in a washer. I vacuum it regularly, but it is a white rug with big colourful blobs, and the dirt off of my feet can be seen in certain spots.. I was wondering if anyone knew how to clean it.. I was just going to buy a carpet cleaner and scrub it, but there are multiple spots with dirt. Also, I'm not sure if the colours are going to bleed if I try to do that.. I don't really want to buy a steam cleaner, but I guess if that is my only option.. but again i don't want the colours to bleed.Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

- Q: If I were to keep a horse turned out 24/7 in all seasons which rugs would I need?If possible, say where I could layer rugs to minimize buying loads of different kinds. Thanks in advance (:
- The bare minimum to keep a horse out all year: 1 x heavy weight winter turnout, with detachable neck. 1 x medium turnout rug, with detachable neck 1 x lightweight turnout, with or without neck 2 x under-rug layer blankets for really cold or in between days. That should be fine, in the deepest darkest winter you can put on your heavyweight with neck and under rugs, when it gets a little warmer you can just put on the heavyweight with no neck, the autumn/early spring you can use the medium, on extra cold nights put on the under rugs, and then when you get to summer you can use your lightweight. Other rugs: Incase your horse ever needs to be stabled, i'd get 1 x medium stable rug. 1 x fly rug/sheet for the summer Also, you might want a cooler fleece that your horse can wear to cool off after exercise etc You can also use a cooler as a travel rug/show rug, or you could buy another one. You may want an exercise sheet, to wear while riding, this will keep your horse warm and dry :) Never put rugs (apart from a cooler) on a sweaty/rained on/wet horse, because he will get a serious chill. If you get in from riding and he's really sweaty/wet, either put the cooler on under the turnout rug, or walk him around for 10 mins till he dries off, and then put on your turnout rugs. If you're on a really tight budget, and you don't ride to compete, and your horse is quite a sturdy, hardy type, you could probably get by with 1 heavyweight and 1 medium turnout, nothing else.
- Q: Our carpet in our apartment is starting to fray and my 8mo old likes to pick at the strings and pull them up and I'm afraid she's going to destroy it so I want to buy a rug for that area. We're on a really tight budget so I want to buy a used one, but I don't trust that it will be clean knowing it'll probably end up in her mouth eventually. How would you wash one and would it be cost effective vs just buying new?
- Why not buy a new remnant? Carpet cleaning foam is perfectly safe for children as long as you do not allow them to drink it.
- Q: I've recently noticed rugs popping up on my yards in the evenings, it goes down to around 4oC here at night right now, and all horses are in their own fields, not in a herd. I personally am not too sure on rugging yet. My mare is a 16.2, 10 year old Irish Sports Horse, and I simply refuse to clip her for my own reasons. She has been rugged for most of her life with her old owner, and obviously it's unfair of me to deny her rugging now, so no rug is not an option.I was just wondering how cold it has to get before you start rugging. I myself will rug in horrible rain, and at 1oC or below, but should I be doing it at higher temps? I don't want to ruin the growth of her winter coat, and she gets hay and a feed every night.
- I agree with the fact that horses have their natural central heating when the weather get cold BUT and this is a very important factor, in the UK our winters are inclined to be very wet often accompanied with a bitter cold wind and no stock likes being soaking wet and very cold. At the moment my mares, foals and two year old horses are all out with no rugs, the weather has been extraordinarily mild and most importantly dry. I would hold off rugging until the wet weather moves in. Some people are getting beyond ridiculous with rugging the moment they think that it is going to get 'cold' and leaving them on during the day whereby the poor animals are sweating. Several days this week I have turned my clipped horses out naked as the weather has been so warm(they come in late afternoon)
- Q: I just moved into a new apartment about three weeks ago, and the carpet in only one room smells like ammonia. It's a really terrible smell and it won't go away after vacuuming many times. I know they shampooed the carpets before I move in. The lady before me who lived here had a dog. I know urine can smell like ammonia after it's sat awhile. Could it be that her dog peed on the carpet? Any ideas about how to get rid of the smell without shampooing the carpet?
