- I don't know so much about legal issues, but 4-500 dollars for a water pump sounds about right. The pump costs about 80 but you have to take out the engine to get it. Usually when they replace the water pump they'll replace the timing belt, too, which again adds to the cost. If he takes the pump out, it means the engine will be out, too. Engines are really heavy, so I doubt that he could do it on his own. If he has a mechanic do it, the car will be stuck at the mechanic's until you get a replacement part, and he still has to pay $300 in labor just to get the thing out of there. It is pretty much, then, an idle threat. He could however, do quite a lot of damage to your car with a hammer. However, that would be vandalism and he would go to jail for it. If he has already paid for the repair, he can't really sue you. He can, but the judge should look at it as a gift, which he can't get back.

- If your pump is rated to run 24/7 you can leave it running. To save electricity you could get a simple timer and set it to run for 30 mins 2 or 3 times at night and run all day. Or you could have it coming on/off at various times thru day night. This should keep water oxygenated enough

- It should be possible, it would be best if both pumps were identical. They should be hooked up in parallel to increase flow rate.
- Q: I think my water pump has crapped out on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. - Go okorder They have on-line repair manuals for just about every car. You'll be guided through entering your vehicle make and engine size/type. Find the water pump and read the directions they give you. I changed the one on my Buick this way. It's cheaper and easier than buying the manual. If it looks to complicated, then take the car to a shop.
- Q: I am trying to change my daughters 2004 Grande Am water pump because people tell me it is squealing. We purchased a replacement pump and blue gasket glue. I know to remove the Serpentine belt (not sure which pulley to reduce tension on) then I need to know which bolts to un-tighten, won't the pump turn as a use the wrench? Is there a good video available on changing out the water pump? I've done maybe 5 water pumps in my lifetime all on V-8s with rear wheel drive, so they had easy access. Does anyone know the steps of removal or can someone point to a video of removal replacement?
- better make sure it,s not the belt squealing and not the pump. usually when a water pump goes out they will leak. i would be checking the belt first.

- Q: first off i should say it is below freezing here....with that said, the water pump pulley is not turnning so.. the fan belt busted which leads me to believe the water pump is frozen...... right?i am currently traveling and have little money to spend on a new water pumpis there any way that anyone may know to dethaw a frozen water pump without damaging it?... i should say, the motor is running great, no cracks or leaks from the cold.
- One way is since you have no belt is to start the car and let it run for a little while. The heat from the engine can defrost the pump. Be careful to not overheat it. You need to drain the water and add coolant if it gets that cold there. A block heater wouldn't hurt. You can also use a heat gun. It looks like a blow dryer, but is made for longer use and gets hotter. Don't use a torch. It can ruin the seals on the pump or set your car on fire.

- If it has a knock, you may have blown a head gasket, or worse, cracked the block.
- Q: and it still runs about every 1/2 hr even if you are not using water. I have no leaks from the pump thought the house so I think the problem is between the house and the well. I can't hear or see any leaks in the elbows in the well. I tried to pull the foot valve up but can't get it out. I replaced the pump cause it was worn out and it was running every 15 min. Do I need to set the pressure on the new one it cuts off at 42 and on at 20 psi and what else could cause it to run when it shouldn't? I know I should call a plumber, but haven't worked in months and can not afford one.
- Sounds like foot valve to me is not seating properly and you wouldn't hear the leak under water level guess your tank has enough air gap top of tank and water level if that is insufficient pump will also short cycle should have a valve stem with internal bladder inside of tank if it is similar to my old tank. Your pressure is same as my old one and it was fine.
