- Q:Water pump. A drip on the edge of the pump or drip on the ground. Serious concern on which one?
- if its starting to drip coolant from it and it isn't a gasket you need to replace it ,they don't last to long once they start to leak,you can look at it and tell where the leak is coming from,i have seen a few on occasion that was leaking from the gasket where somone had replaced them and not got a good seal back on it,but most of the time your looking at repalcing the water pump,depending on what its on it can be a big job to do,good luck.
- Q:I would like to know how difficult it is to change a water pump on my mustang? Is it something I can do by myself? I do know about cars and can perform general maintenance, I am not totally ignorant to whats going on underneath the hood of my car I'm just not sure if I have the tools needed and how difficult it is to do. What tools do I need? Do I need a torque wrench? If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks!
- This is a straightforward task that can be difficult for the novice, but it's not impossible. You will need basic automotive hand tools, wrenches, sockets in metric. Also, you will need a good shop manual for this car. A torque wrench is optional, most professional mechanics don't torque the fasteners involved with this job. Take pictures of the engine from various angles, it will help in reassembly. Don't forget to disconnect the battery also. Be certain to draw a diagram of how the serpentine belt(s) are routed around the pulleys, if no such aid exists on the radiator support. By all means buy a reputable brand NEW pump, don't bother with a rebuilt unit. With some mechanical knowledge and basic common sense you can do this, take your time, don't rush. Good Luck !

- Well to start of, and two, A 25 hp does not have a water pump, like a car, it has am impeller driven by the out board motors gear system

- I don't know why, but the water pump costs between $125 and $160. That seems a little high. It probably retails for $186. Under normal conditions, you just get things out of the way, unbolt the old pump, clean it up and put the new one in. The problem is the other stuff that gets in the way. I'm just estimating the job will take 5-8 hours. Just multiply times the labor rate in your area. Don't forget the anti-freeze when you're done.

- If it is pumping sand there is a problem of course. The pump is generally hung about 10 feet from the bottom of the well ( Ex: if the well is 120 feet the pump would hung be at 110 feet). In your case it may have been closer to the bottom and picking up the sand. There is a possibility that recently another well has been dug in the area and disturbed sediment has gotten in the water. It sounds like you aren't using this as drinking water or the sand would have been dropped in the pressure tank and you wouldn't see it. If it is a seasonal use well ( like for your garden or lawn in spring through fall) this debris might wash out after a few uses.
