Q: My cat has torn up a couple of sections of the carpet in my apartment. I went to Lowe's hardware and they have the carpet I need in stock. However, I keep getting the runaround about what I need and what I need to know to get what I need. I was told that I need to find out how my carpets are installed. I don't want to ask the apartment people because they will charge me a ridiculous amount of money to fix the situation. I have Shag carpeting in my apartment. I do not know how it's laid onto the floor. Is there a way that I can find that out? Also, is there anything else that I need to know? I haven't found any help regarding this except getting the runaround. Please help a girl out! :): I've had to repair construction damaged carpet in several houses - here's how I went at it. Go to a carpet store and ask for carpet tape - a wide version of duct tape. You should be able to get it as single sided or double sided tape. Take a piece of carpeting identical to the carpeting you have to replace, cut it large enough to replace the damaged section, and lay the new piece over the old. Keep in mind that the carpet has a grain or pattern to it, and in some types of carpet the direction of grain is quite pronounced - so make sure you match the direction of the grain to the original carpet. You may find it easiest to cut the carpeting patch from the back side, or use a knife with a blade designed to cut carpeting (see the carpet store again). As best you can, brush the shag pile on the existing carpet away from the line where you intend to cut it - it'll make cutting easier and the pile will hide the patch when the pile is brushed back into place. Hold the patch in place while you cut through damaged carpet, using the patch as a template. If you're uncertain, make the hole in the original carpet a little small and trim the patch to fit. Once the patch fits the hole in the original carpet, use the tape to fasten the patch to the original carpet (and to the floor if two sided). Get the cat de-clawed. ;-) Good luck with it.

Q: My cat got sick a year ago and repeatedly urinated in a corner of a room. The cat is now gone, but I still can smell it sometimes, especially when it's humid. Vinegar and water is what I have used. You soak the area, and then use towels to mop up after the recommended time period. Enzymes take time to work, so often one doesn't allow the time necessary. It can take several weeks, which is why they often have an orange scent, since cats hate that scent and stay away from that area while the enzymes work. If it gets into the flooring, you really have to seal the flooring with something like Kilz, so try soaking the area first, and that may solve the problem enough for you to get by.

Q: What is a Sisal Rug?: as the first post said you can get sisal in a varitey of colors and styles.....I have some sisal carpet in my home and it looks great and wears like iron, it is expensive for the good quality sisal but very worth it.

Any help would be nice!!: Have you asked the carpet stores that you were already to if they could order the white carpet for you? I wouldn't think that should be a big deal at all. A lot of carpet stores may not have all colors of carpeting available on sight. They should have plenty of samples for you to look at and you choose the one you want. If you don't see it in the store, that doesn't mean they can't order it for you. There shouldn't be an extra charge for ordering the carpet you want.

Q: I have to enlarge a raised hearth into a living room. It is already a 12quot; wide x 57quot; rectangle, 8quot; high, into the room with the carpet stretched to tack strip to the old design. I have to make it 10quot; wider into the room to meet code for the fireplace. How should I cut the carpet so that it can be stretched to the new design? My instinct is to draw out the new design, plus the tile dimension, onto the carpet and razor cut along that pattern. Is this correct, or does anyone have a better suggestion? Thank you.: how long is the project going to take? if it is just going to be a few days and you plan on someone getting a stretcher and stretching the carpet back in the new place,I would just pull all the carpet back from one side of the wall,where the herth is, and then put it in and let the carpet guys go from there.... they will also have to take up the old tackwood and put new around the hearth so that would make it a lot easir for them...... if for some reason,like the room is to odd shaped you can't do it like that just allow a couple inches in from the measurements of the new hearth on the carpet and rough cut it...........

Q: My boyfriend and I have a mini fridge in our bedroom. It was collecting ice really bad around the little freezer compartment and was so bad we could hardly open it so I unplugged it and asked him to carry it outside to drain. I went to work. Q: I recently purchased this couch. I kept the colors the same (purple and teal). However, the two smallest accent pillows aren't the same; they're just going to be the same teal color. I'd go will some soft silk drapes that gently flow and maybe puddle on the floor in a cream, gray or tan, with a contrasting colored tassel to hold them back. If you want a printed drape, I'd still go silk and stick with a contemporary pattern. Rug options are limitless. When shopping for a rug, try to pull out a color in your other items. I find it is striking to have that be a small almost unnoticeable color in the rug, but it will pop because it is in another item. For example a printed rug that is predominantly brown, but has little hints of purple in it. Alone you might not notice the purple in the rug, but the pillows make it pop out. I'd go with abstract art given the contemporary nature of the couch... maybe a canvas giclee.
