- Q: I need to patch a section of my carpet. The size I need to patch is 2 feet by 1 1/2 feet. I will be patching just a few inches from the wall/front door. Here's my questions:1. Will the patch job be noticeable at all or will it blend in to the other carpet? 2. Will the replaced carpet piece be loose or need stretched? 3. What if the carpet I am patching doesn't exactly match because my current carpet is used and the patch will be brand new? I've never done this before so any advice for a first timer would be awesome! - Here's my experience. As a landlord I've gone thru every type of carpeting and finally got so mad I ordered that short nap nylon/plastic stuff. I had it glued down. I figured no one could do anything to that carpeting. Well, the daughter dropped and left an iron and melted the carpet. I hired professionals to come take a piece out of the back of the closet to switch places. Does it show? Absolutely because of the lack of nap and they didn't take care to cut all the shreds from the outside edges. In other words-even if they had done a good job it would have shown. I have better business carpeting and they butt the ends up to each other and it's fairly hard to tell. So if you have nap, you'll be able to pull it off. It will wear soon enough. I would glue the edges and glue the piece so that it doesn't move. Be sure to match any design and direction and be careful to leave all the nap you can around the edges so you can brush it together. Since you're piece is so much bigger, it should be harder to tell. Lots of luck. And, oh yea, if you can take the piece from the closet, do that. It will have faded more than the new and put the new in the closet.

- yes and this works. get a white damp cloth (rag or towel) then get an iron. put the damp cloth over the stain and iron over it. The stain will be lifted off the rug onto the cloth. Use a white cloth so you can see the stain as its removed. If it doesnt work dampen/wet the cloth so more and try again! You can either dampen the cloth or dampen the stain with water. I do this all the time on my carpets and it works! goodluck!

- Since you don't have a cleaning service in your area;I would recomend taking it to laundry mat that has commerical washers and add 1/2 cup woolite and wash on the lowest setting and then take home and place over railing or flat surface and let air dry. I do this with my Oriental area rugs. If a laundry mat is unavailable; use the recomendation above in your bath tub; squeezing gently after your drain tub and then palce over railing or place on flat surface.
- Q: I am having such a hard time finding a rug for my small studio apartment! I have white walls, an off-white/very light creme colored modern leather couch, a glass coffee table (smart coffee table-cb2) and a dark wood tv console. - You have 35.6 square yards so take that times 25 and you end up with $890.00 for that much carpet. Don't forget the pad and installation fee, sometimes it is included sometimes it is not. How I got my answer is 20*16=320 sqft. There are 9 square feet in a square yard so you divide 320/9=35.55555555555556 any carpet seller will round this off to 35.6 square yards. take 35.6sqyd * $25 = $890.00 for that much carpet. To Rob S remind me never to buy carpet from you! to get the square feet of the room you multiply the length and width 20*16 = 320 sqft for the room. Now I know that carpet rolls come in 12 and 15 foot wide rolls, and that the carpet can be sold either way by the sqyd or sqft. Just because you do it one way does not mean it is the only way.
