Q: I moved into a home with pre-wired speakers. There is a bundle of speaker wire coming out of the wall. Each wire has 4 colors of other wire coming out of it. There are a total of 7 main wires (with four wires each) and a total of 9 speakers.
4 conductor wire has a few neat uses. 1 is to bi-wire your speakers. Meaning that if the speaker has 2 red and 2 black terminals then remove the bridge and run the cables to the posts separately thus increasing surface conduction and increasing output and sound quality. Also if you are running cables in the wall to 2 speakers that are near each other or to a single stereo speaker then you don't have to run 2 separate 2-conductor wires. This would also be true if you are running to a second zone using an in wall volume control. If this is the only wire you have for a standard speaker connection it won't hurt to twist them together at both end (pos with pos/ neg with neg) and serves the same purpose as using thicker cables.
Q: wiring kit, subwoofers
by wiring kit do you mean the amps power kit? some of which will include speaker wire for the subs anyway usually your amp will come with instructions that tell you what the minimum gauge is the amp will accept for power, this is the gauge power and ground cable you will want to get maximum power to the amp and to prevent overheating issues, typically amps under 400 watts rms power will do fine with 8 gauge, amps 400-1000 rms will use 4 gauge and 1000+ will use 2/0 gauge wire, for the subwoofer speaker wire you can never go too big gauge only too small, a kicker 12 gauge speaker wire will work for almost any application
Q: I'm wiring a dvc 4ohm sub with 1000rms and I'm trying to wire it at 2 ohms to a mono-d amplifier. Is there a recomendation on the guage of speaker wire I should use? And Another question. When I run a wire to both positive terminals and a seperate wire to both negative terminals does that give me 8ohms or how does that work?

Q: Just got a 540 wat sound system but the speaker wires are only 5 feet, so I want to add about another 10 or 15 feet.
It is an easy fix. Get the same kind of wire that you now have. I live in Sacramento...I believe Home Depot or other similar stores may carry that wire. Cut the existing wire, peel back the covering, and expose each wire...at both ends of the cut. Do the same for the new wire extension. Strip each of all wires about one half inch. Connect each wire...you can solder, use a crimp, heat shrink, or just simply tape. It's not a big deal. When all the wires are connected, tape them all together so it looks neat!!!.
Q: i have 4 wires going to a ac unit #10 wires 2 wires for each cir. and i need to know how many amps can I run with 2 #10 copper for one side of the breaker
10 wire is rated for a maximum of 30 amps. This size wire can not be run in parallel to carry more current. I suggest that you have a local qualified professional electrician do the work since you seem unsure about what you are asking.
Q: i need 175ft of 110 wire how much does it cost?
depends one the guage and copper prices fluctuate daily
Q: You have been given two samples of wire: one nichrome, one aluminum. Describe a procedure you could use to determine which sample was nichrome and which was aluminum
first, knowing the resistance of each wire (i dont know it, you need to look it up) i would set up a circuit to put out [X] amt of current (the amt of the lowest resistance in the wires) and run the current thru the wires to a light bulb. if the bulb doesnt light, you now have figured out that this is the wire with the most resistance (again i dont know which has a higher one) for clarification- aluminum resistance = X nichrome resistance = y circuit with current EQUAL to resistance of the lowest wire (for example if X was lowest with 3 ohms, you would set the current to however many amps/volts are required to overcome that) and then connect it to a bulb. when its turned on, if the bulb doesnt light, you have determined that it isnt wire X but wire Y. even more simply, just list the wires by their resistance. if X=3 ohms, Y= 4 ohms, and the bulb doesnt light at 3, you have determined that its wire Y. im assuimng you would have the resistance of the wires? this is how i would do it, but if thats the right way? i dunno. but it is one way.
Q: Why when you loop a straight wire into loops (coil), it acquires a higher inductance?
If the ends of the wire are joined to form a circuit each loop forms a path for induced current, the currents of each loop are accumulative.
Q: i want electrical symbol used in house wiring
wire Straight line, junction box -x switch x with a line Thur it out let sq with dots motors circle with line Thur it the only time I know of a symbol is used is in schematics house wiring just shows where the main box is switches ,lights motors , outlets , voltage
Q: the wires that are in most electric appliances
hi, stay Brown (was once pink on older issues) impartial Blue (was once black) Earth Now eco-friendly with a yellow stripe (was once basically eco-friendly) eu regs here we bypass lower back ! A circuit is made with the aid of passing modern with the aid of a gadget, and to get all technical, the electron flow travels fron the better stress stay conducutor back throughout the impartial, for that reason spinning your meter. The earth is an significant protection characteristic, in that without it, a bathing device would have a stay physique without tripping a breaker, as an occasion. Your impartial to earth voltage could be checked, as curiously at how sturdy the earth connection back on your community sub-station is. stay to impartial could ideally be 240V, yet they're allowed 10% the two way. In plugs, all you do is understand that the stay is going throughout the interior fuse, the earth is the great pin, which leaves no determination for the impartial Gods, i'm meant to be a power engineer, so wait till you get onto 5 huge distinctive colored cables Sounds simplistic, yet human beings do go incorrect Bang !
