Q:we need to know if we don't connect the red wire and just cap it off.
the four wires are for the fan and the light on the fan do you have two switches for the fan itself one for light one for the fan blades? The red is the same as black its just a control so hoook it where it goes if your new fan has a light or just cap it.
Q:Cant find were to tap the wiring for the puddle lights. Can some one please help!
One wire goes to the frame, the other to a 2 wire toggle switch (if you're using a light up switch it will have 3 wires) inside the cab, then connect the toggle switch to your positive battery terminal (or to the live wire going into your steering column if you want them to be switched on when the key is turned on)
Q:I just removed a Australian light switch that I've never seen before that controlled a bathroom ceiling fan and the bathroom light. (both buttons on a single panel switch)I have a black wire coming from the switch box that has 2 other black wires splitting out from the connection point, one of each going to the fan and the light. And a single black wire going to the ceiling fan and a red wire to the light.I'm just putting in your everyday off/on switch one for each the fan and the light. any help? what are the positive and negative wires?
Here in the USA we use Black and Red for power (positive) , a white wire for a neutral and green (or bare copper) for ground. I am guessing that the red and black are the independent power wires and the other black wires are the main power. the use of a multimeter should be used to verify which is which. Since your putting in a single switch (which is a interrupter) where you have one black splitting to two, remove the 2 wires and make it a single wire and attach to the line side of the switch. Then connect the red and black wire for light and fan with a 3rd wire (tail piece) and attach the tail wire to the load side of the switch., Remember to test your power source first. If in doubt, hire a electrician. No one wants a fire!!!! Better to be safe then sorry.
Q:I just read an article about a man who was electrocuted by a live overhead wire while trimming a tree. Horrible. My question is I see squirrels running on all the overhead wires. How do they not get electrocuted?
Electrocution happens when electricity finds a way to ground. Squirrels are not grounded so they don't get shocked. Ever watch the Discovery channel? They've shown how the power company works on high voltage lines without shutting the power off. A helicopter hovers next to the power line while a technician reaches out to the power line with a probe. Once contacted the helicopter and the technician are at the same potential voltage so nobody gets shocked. However, during approach they are NOT at the same potential. That's the reason for making contact with he wire with a probe first. So that the technician doesn't take a big hit when he first touches the live wire. So squirrels, birds, rats - anything that can land on the wires doesn't get electrocuted. But if an animal touches the wire AND ground (or another wire), it's all over in a blinding flash. Hope this helps. 'av'a g'day mate. '')
Q:Why does a thin wire melt and a thick wire glow when put up to the terminals? Explain in terms of resistance and current. Thanks=]
Everything has a temperature at which it will melt. Every conductor also has a resistance, which is just like it sounds, a wire sort of resists the electricity passing through it by heating itself up. If a wire's resistance causes it to heat up so much that it melts, either the wire is too thin, or there is too much current passing through it, or both. A thicker wire can handle the same current without heating up so much that it melts. Sorry I don't have any formulas for you, but I think you should understand it now.
Q:I have a phone line with 8 wires that is wired to the house, how do you select which wire to use on a 4 wire phone line?
How To Wire Phone Line
Q:I have a ceiling fixture outlet which has 4 wires coming out (red, black, white and uninsulated ground). There is only one light switch that controls it. I wanted to attach a light fixture to connect to that, but the light fixture only has 3 wires (red, white and green - ground). How do I connect this light fixture to the 4 wires?
Without seeing the ceiling fixture box and wiring myself, i might be hesitant to propose you as to what the extra wires are for. I count on that you mean the field on the ceiling has these wires in them, no longer the ceiling fixture that you simply purchased, seeing that that may have had a wiring diagram that explains what the wires would be for. If I had to bet, i'd say that the field includes three wires due to the fact that it is going to have had a ceiling fan that operated on a different swap than the light, or perhaps the light may also be managed from two special switches on one of a kind facets of the room, or might be both of these. Do you will have an AC voltage tester to see which wires are scorching (are living) and which are not? I hate to propose this, however by and large your great guess is to comply with the wires back to their source to look what they are for. Do you will have a false ceiling that you could open up? Do the wires go into the attic or crawlspace where you could seem at them while not having to tear open the gypsum board or plaster ceiling? You could just put all of the whites together and all the blacks collectively, and make sure the grounds are in position, hoping they've a motive. However now not understanding what they are there for is a good way to intent an electrical fireplace. And i am sure doing that might now not be accredited with the aid of your regional electrical building codes.
Q:where does the expression 'down to the wire', come from?
I found this online: The wire is used in a four-legged footrace-- at least I've only ever heard the word tape used for races involving bipeds. That and ribbon. The wire in question is an actual wire, and it's used in the Sport of Kings, horseracing. A tape or ribbon would be too stretchy to instantaneously trip the shutter on the finishing-line camera when it was crossed. A horse has no problem busting through a single strand of wire.
Q:1989 Honda Accord LxWhat is the wiring Diagram for the Stock stereo wiring harness?Just pulled out the old Stereo wanna put my deck in there now but i dont know the cars harness colorss.
Check out a Chilton's manual for that car.It may be at your local library to view, not sure that they will let you check that out if they have it.Hopefully they have a color copying machine so that you could photo copy the schematic and take that with you.
Q:Hi there,I have a very old house which only has 2 wires (1 white, 1 black) coming out of the wall. The ceiling fan / light has 2 red wires, 1 black, 1 green. What is right way to wire for this to operate? Thanks,
Most fans have a wiring schematic and this will tell you how to wire it. Normally black is the power, green is a ground, which you don't have, and as for the red wires I'm not sure. Is this a new fan or one that has been used before. In the USA we have a white wire which is a neutral. I'm puzzled about the two red wires, these may have been added at a later date. If your in a country that has 240 volts then this may be an explanation. Regards, Dale
