- Q: I am trying to decorate my house and I'm really stuck on what color of area rug to get for my living room!!!My walls are beige with white trim. Hardwood wood floors in the living room and bedrooms. Black granite floors in the halls, kitchen, breakfast area, and bathrooms. I am going for a mainly neutral color scheme overall (a lot of brown and black), except the bedrooms will be done in their own individual style. In the living room I have a brown double recliner and brown curtains with black rods. I have a couch and love seat that I'm looking to replace but have not shopped for anything yet (not until I have the money.

Is it true that you can really take any doily pattern and just use this huge cotton rope to make a rug? Would you have to alter the pattern at all? Thanks for any help! Wanna make one for my grandma.

- Q: This might be a stupid question. But I'm about to buy carpet and I need to know how many sq. feet I need. thanks
- What is your room shaped like? If it's a perfect square, then it should be obvious, but if it's L shaped or some other shape you'll have to work a little harder. If you've ever taken geometry, then you should have no problem. If your room is L shaped, break up the space into two rectangles. One for the vertical part of the L and another for the horizontal part of the L. Then measure each rectangle separately and add the two amounts together. The other thing you have to remember about carpet is that it's going to have a seam. Obviously there aren't 20 foot wide rolls of carpet out there, so installers will sew the pieces together to create a seamless look. That is something else you have to determine. You'll have to find the carpet you want and figure out how wide it comes. THEN you'll have to figure out where to put the seam in your floor in order to have it as out-of-the-way-of-foot-traffic as possible so it doesn't come apart after a few years. In all honesty, carpet is a lot more confusing and difficult than most people think, which is why there are professionals you can call for help with this. I suggest you call a local carpet dealer and ask them what they recommend. After all, they're not going to charge you to call and ask. Good luck!
- Q: I'm moving soon and currently my room is being constructed (dad was a builder/architect)I want a carpet, because whenever my chair rolls, it would scratch the floor boards, but I'm not sure my chair would be able to roll around on a carpet or rug. So will it?
- Of course your chair will roll on the carpet. Now if you select a carpet with a low pile on it, it will offer less resistance to your wheels and be easier for you to navigate. A pile like an indoor-outdoor carpet, they have some nice choices,or even some commercial style flooring has a low pile for high traffic areas. You don't have to live in a barn with cold hard floors, you can enjoy carpet! A chair with larger wheels in the front will be able to roll over the floor-to-carpet transitions better. Smaller wheels tend want to get stuck at those points. Especially if the carpet layer folds the carpet edge over (cheap undesired technique in my opinion), rather than using metal carpet strips.

- Q: It's dark brown colour, the carpet is nearly brand new!!Any sensible ideas on how to get it out? Thanks.
- An unfortunate accident with hair dye can make cleaning carpet a nightmare. In many cases, it may even mean the end of your carpet. Hopefully it won't come to this. There are a few things you can try to remove carpet stains of this nature. First of all, it should go without saying that if hair dye is spilled on the carpet one should act immediately. Dampen a sponge and apply dishwashing liquid. Blot the stain with the sponge until you've lifted as much of the dye as possible. You can also try doing the same thing with vinegar. If this doesn't work and the stain hasn't set into the carpet too deep, you might be able to snip the very top fibers of the carpet without anyone knowing. If none of this works, you'll have to call in a professional who makes cleaning carpet stains his business or rearrange your furniutre to hide the stain...
- Q: I have dark brown furniture and i just painted my walls beige and gold! Would a dark color carpet make it look trendy? i thought of choosing dark purple as a carpet color, what do u think?
- Try a soft buttery yellow (unless your room has north-facing windows, in which case, avoid yellows), or a light green (think plant green, not sea green). Apricot or peach are also options. If you use a blue wall colour, your room could become overwhelmingly blue - and while white has its place, from what you've described, I suspect that white will give your room a slightly industrial quality - not really what you're looking for! To coordinate your living and dining room, think texture instead of colour - use the same colour in both spaces with different textures (don't be intimidated, there are plenty of easy paint finishes out there that look great. . .your local paint shop can provide you with instructions). Alternatively, find a colour you like in your living room and use a related shade in your dining room (as a rule of thumb, go lighter in your living space and darker in your dining room). Finally, before you commit to a colour, get a sample can from your paint store, go home and paint a spot on the wall (about eighteen inches square) in a nice, visible spot. Live with the spot for a few days and see how it looks (remember to prime under and around it, if you currently have a dark or very different colour). If you don't love it now, you never will (and you'll have to pick a new colour) but at least you won't have to repaint the whole room! And don't panic if you don't get the first one right - even the pros make mistakes (and they spend years learning to visualise colour).
- Q: without steam cleaning the carpet how do I remove dried on stains from rugs carpets?
- Carpet stains are a part of life. Fortunately, common household vinegar can remove them as easily as they came about. Vinegar can remove even the toughest stains, including alcohol, perfume, cola, coffee and pet mess. 1. Get a clean water spray bottle. 2. Fold several (five to eight is ideal) clean paper towels into a square stack. 3. Pour one part white vinegar with two parts cold water into the bottle, seal and shake. 4. Test the solution on an inconspicuous part of your carpet. Spray the solution and blot dry to verify that the vinegar doesn't discolor your carpet. 5. Remove excess stain-causing liquid by blotting the stained area on the carpet with paper towels. 6. Spray the mixture onto the stain generously. Allow it to soak into the carpet for a few seconds. 7. Press the paper towel stack against the stain and blot so that the staining ingredient will lift onto the paper towels. 8. Continue spraying the carpet with the vinegar solution and blotting carpet until no stain remains. To ease handling, you may choose to spray the paper towels with the solution before blotting as long as you continue to spray the carpet, too. 9. Allow the carpet to dry. The scent of vinegar should fade away while it evaporates. # For large stains, mix the solution and pour it into the detergent part of a carpet cleaning machine. Clean with the machine as usual. # For tough stains, leave a fresh stack of paper towels on top of the stain and place a heavy item like a weighted trash can over it. Leave overnight as the vinegar solution soaks up the extra stain-causing ingredient. # Do not use home cleaning products that contain lanolin or bleach on your carpet. Doing so could cause damage to your carpet. # Avoid rubbing the stains. # Do not spray enough vinegar onto the carpet for it to soak into the carpet's padding.
- Q: We purchased the recommended pad for use on carpeted areas. The problem is that the wrinkles are pronounced/high. This diminishes the attractiveness and safety of the new rug.The rug was tightly rolled for shipping. It was laid across a bed for 4-5 days allowing the edges to hang hoping to straighten and smooth out these wrinkles. Now that we have actually placed it on the carpeted area it is disappointing that the wrinkles remain. I've contacted the vendor and they have no advise or help thus far. Any ideas?
- 1- State your team and Record- Lakers (42-10) #2- What is a positive thing they did the first Half- Played defense very well in the first 7 games. #3. What can they Improve on for the Second Half- Play defense the rest of the way #4- Which Player has been the Most important and most consistent- Kobe and Pau. #5- Which Player is critical for your Team Success in the Second Half- Lamar Odom , Bynum is gonna be out. Odom needs to step up as he did the past couple weeks. The tough loss part the most heartbreaking one was the Troy Murphy tip in, I mean, yeah the Bobcats loss was bad, but you could already tell Lakers were gonna lose since Kobe had fouled out, but here, we are up one.. first guy misses the shot!! We win, and then BAM! a tip in. That just hurts.
