Q:I have made a few PF Cakes out of vermiculite, brown rye flour, in a few glass jars and a syringe of mushroom spores.(in Aug.) I followed all of the steps, gave birth and grew a few batches of mushrooms, but I don‘t like them. Can I buy a different strain of mushroom spores and plant them and grow them on the cakes I have already birthed and cultivated a few times? Instead of having to make a PF cake from the beginning with the brown rye flour.
Sure, you can just use different spores on the same medium.
Q:Could someone answer my question on ball python breeding?
If you go on Strictly Reptiles, you'll see some really cool morphs to give you ideas. I like the spider pied balls. Make sure they're sexed so you make sure you get a pair. they're easy to breed they'll decide when they're going breed lay eggs. You'll be doing the incubating. Youtube shows a guy opening his eggs seeing what variety he got out of the clutch. Hope I was some help.
Q:I know I need jars, spores, pressure cooker, a terranium, but what else do I need? Should I use Rye Seed or...?
No, you cannot it is not a safe substrate to use. If you are looking for a more soil in nature type substrate try buying Eco Earth that is a 100% pure cocofiber substrate. Please visit CrabbyWiki for further information regarding substrates.
Q:Is there some reason why I should not funnel vermiculite or perlite into my existing uninsulated house walls? People keep telling me to blow in cellulose, but that process is very messy and sometimes doesn't do a complete fill. Any advice would be appreciated.
If the egg is deflated looking, try covering it with some moist vermiculite/perlite. Some breeders have also suggested placing a moist paper towel over it. It could be that the humidity is not high enough. Sometimes it takes a couple of days for it to inflate again after being too dry. If the gecko JUST laid it today, give it some time to start checking to see if it's infertile or not. Sometimes you can't see red veins right away, so I'd give it a couple of weeks before checking again. I made my incubator with a styrofoam box, heat mat hooked up to a thermostat, digital thermometer, bowl of water on the heat mat, and a box of eggs in moist vermiculite (wetted the vermiculite then squeezed out the water). For leopard geckos...temperature was set at 83F for mine, but you can have a range of 79-83 for mostly females and 88-90 for mostly males...or in between for a mix. I'd still incubate the egg until it either completely deflates or starts smelling bad.
Q:its about paint
Ummmmm, I work in the paint industry, you need a smooth surface to begin with to get a smooth finish. If you have a textured paint or a texture finish (like vermiculite or render) then youwon't be able to get a smooth finish without stripping off the surface first, troweling over the rough surface with plaster or render to smooth it out or sand the surface smooth before applying a sealer/undercoat then 2 top coats as a minimum. Brushes and rollers leave marks on a wall or ceiling for various reasons, mostly the paint is too thick, the brush is too old or won't hold paint correctly, sanding down between coats can help with the final result, watch for streaks and runs in the paint, build up several thin coats instead of a few thich coats and your finish will be much better. Good luck.
Q:A few weeks ago I planted some little venus fly trap seeds in one cup of peat moss, mixed with one cup of vermiculite. And every other day I give them a spray of distilled water. They're in indirect sunlight in a window that usually stays open. But I've seen no progress, they're not growing.Did I kill them by using the vermiculite?
Vermiculite will hold more water but tends to bunch together and eventually break up. Perlite will keep it's shape longer, retains moisture and helps aerate the soil.
Q:Its cheap and a friend uses for his cresties egg box. Never heard of it before then though
You have a good selection of materials to make a progressive filter. Divide your materials into 3 categories: 1. Filtering materials in order of effectiveness- rocks, kitty litter, vermiculite, sand, gauze, cotton paper towels, coffee filters, activated charcoal... etc. 2. Containers- soda bottles, plastic tubing. 3. Attaching materials- hot glue, duct tape. Now you have to put the materials into the soda bottles. Start with the rocks. Cut off the bottom of the bottle, put some gauze in the mouth of the bottle put a hole in the cap, and put in on the bottle. Now turn the bottle over and put in the rocks. This is stage 1 of your filter. Take another bottle with a hole in the cap. Cut off the bottom and duct tape this into the open end of the bottle to hold the rocks in during transport and to act as a funnel. Stage 2 is almost the same. This time use the kitty litter instead of the rocks. Stick the neck of the first stage into the open end of the second stage and use the duct tape to hold them together. Stage 3: Vermiculite Stage 4: Sand, but now you have to use the paper towel instead of the gauze because the sand can get through the gauze. Stage 5 is just the coffee filters Stage 6 is the activated charcoal and use the cotton in the neck to keep the charcoal in the bottle. The last stage should again use a coffee filter to get any bits of charcoal that may have escaped. If you duct tape each stage carefully to the next you will have a tall progressive filter. You pour in the polluted water at the top and you will have pretty well filtered water at the bottom.
Q:I really need help w/ my science fair, and I would really appreaciate if anyone can help.Thnx.
Home Depot I know for sure has larger bags. And I do believe that Lowe's carries it ,as well. Check there before you go paying a fortune to have it shipped. Good Luck!
Q:i was mixed up vermiculite with water in a bowl for gardening purposes now i find out that vermiculite might have abestos in it? should i throw the bowl out or would a good clean save the bowl?
Just okorder
Q:I work in a greenhouse and have always wondered about that. It looks like little gold flakes.
perlite and vermiculite. Also the sand or rocks at the bottom would make good drainage.
