- First, sop up any remaining vomit from the carpet then clean with soap and water, a commercial carpet cleaner, or even a Scrubbing Bubbles type cleaner (I use this on carpet stains all the time) or an enzymatic cleaner like Oxy Clean. Let dry and vacuum. Some of the odor should be removed now. Next, liberally apply dry baking soda to the area. You should completely cover the area with a thin layer of the baking soda. Next, use a damp sponge to rub it into the carpeting. Then sprinkle more baking soda on top. Let this sit overnight. Vacuum. The carpet should smell completely fresh. Good luck = )

- Yea, it does a pretty good job. But I never thought it really saved a whole lot of money over a professional cleaner. The rental is low but the detergents are expensive. Plus the labor and time... But... since you are only watching the pets temporarily, I would try sprinkling baking soda over the carpet, let sit for several hours and then vaccuum. Follow with a dose of Fabreeze and you should be fine.

- You more than likely have crushed the fibers on the carpet. Depending on the type of carpet you may or may not get them to fluff or come back up. The padding also depends on the quality.A decent pad will come back but I m willing to bet it won t and you ve crush that permanently. Only thing to prevent this in the future id to stop working out on the carpet and onto a hard surface. Puttin a hard mat over the carpet will still crush the fibers.
