Q: I have a 2005 mercury montego premiere and just installed a new head unit. Everything worked fine. I have a pioneer head unit that plays DVDs but I didn't wire it to my parking brake when I first put it in. Today I decided to do so got it all out, then had an urgent call and couldn't connect it. As I was putting the radio back in, something sparked and started to smoke, (yellow cords where showing a little bit, might have touched metal) I took it to a car audio shop and tested the head unit, and it worked just fine. Could I have broke(shoted) the harness that connects the colored wires together and the other side connects to my car wiring(they plug in) OR could I have broke something with my car wiring. I checked audio fuses, they are fine. PLEASE HELP I BEG
Its very simple, just check the wiring harness to the radio one wire at a time and if all are okay then you have either a bad PCM or BCM. You'll need a scanner to check these.
Q: I blew up a 2002 S10 2.2 liter engine, and i have found a 99 S10 2.2 liter engine for sale. I know i will need a computer for the 99 to work in the 2002, but will i need to get a wiring harness as well?
ABSOLUTELY. (actually it's harnesses).
Q: I have started a wood splitting/hauling business and so far business is great. Problem is it would be even better if I could find where to get an electronic brake control module for my truck. My trailer is equipped with electronic brakes but my truck does not have the module or wiring harness. Where can I find this and roughly how much will it cost me? I have 2, possibly 3, cords going out tomorrow and would like to have this hooked up before delivery. Thank you.(I live in Waldo, OH so if you would like wood delivered to you in a surrounding area please get in touch with me. Thank you, Brandon)
A trailer dealership will have such things. I know because I work at one. I recommend a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller. They work great and have a lifetime warranty. That will run you anywhere between $90-$150. Now, for the rest of it there are a few things you need to look for. The first thing to do is see if the truck came with a towing package. If it did, then there should be a factory wiring harness installed on the truck. The harness will run from the front to back and may or may not have a 7-way receptacle under the bumper. If there is a 7-way and it has the vehicles brand name on it, then you have a harness and all you need is the controller and maybe the controller harness that fits your truck (if you don't have the factory supplied harness in the glove box). Otherwise you might have to crawl under there and look for the harness. If there is a harness but no 7-way then you will need that also. If there is no factory harness under there, then you will have to run 2 wires from the front of your truck to the back and splice in the rest of the wires, both on the controller and at the back. I would not recommend doing this yourself. It's not too complicated but it takes a few hours and can be very frustrating. The best thing to do is find a trailer dealership with a repair shop. They will have everything you need and can do the work too. Yes it will cost alot more but they will know what needs to be done and can do it in probably 2.5 hours (complete wiring), 30 min (if you just need a controller), 1 hour (controller and receptacle only). A truck equipment shop may also be able to do this. Sorry if this was confusing, but that's why most people just have the work done. There are so many variables. Best of luck with your business!
Q: I need a copy of the wire harness diagram
Go to Auto Zone and order a Haynes repair manual for that year. The wiring diagrams are in the back of the book.
Q: Hi I need a wire harness for my 1999 Lexus GS400 that has a stock amp in the car. I have the Lexus premiumcar stereo.

Q: How do you Install trailer wiring harness on Jeep Grand Cherokee 98?
Cheaper in the long run to rent a TRUCK and not ruin the transmission in the Jeep. They were NEVER intended to tow anything heavy. Bruce
Q: I just bought a wiring harness for my 2004 chevrolet truck to install a dual dvd/cd player and the wiring harness i bought does not have anything written on the wires, and i need to know where each wire needs to go exept for the speaker wires.

Q: I wired the whole harness, im left with a orange (illumination dash) and red (12v positive) where do i install these wires? I cant really figure it out where these goes.
the chevy broker can hook you up with the harness which you truly desire, despite if it may probable be greater low value to verify with the motor vehicle stereo shops on your city. Kunkles would even have it
Q: I purchased a 2002 Pontiac Grand am a few days ago. Not to my surprise the Factory radio in it did not work. So I took off the front panel to see what the problem was, and shockingly someone had cut the main harness off and took electrical tape and taped all of the wires in a big tangled mess. I found a color code diagram for the car but none of them seem to match the colors in my car. Luckily I was looking on OKorder and found this Factory Radio OEM Reverse Male Wire Wiring Harness 14 for 2002 GMC. Is this what I need to get so that I can hook these dangling wires up to, get me a new radio and an wire harness adapter so that I can finally jam out in my new ride?
Try a local salvage yard, you can cut off the connector end of a harness and all you have to do is match up the wires since they will be color coded the same.
Q: I accidentally cut the stock wire harness piece out thinking, that i would just strip the wires and twist them in witht the coenciding colors to my Aftermarket radio, then none of the wires matched. And now all i see is to use a wire harness but that option is out since i cut the wires free from the small harness plug thing that was origanally attactched. any help would greatly be appreciated.
You are going to need a multimeter Set it to 12 volts dc ( probably will be 20V, which works for this.) Ground the negative cable on the meter, to a secure ground. I like to stick it in the ignition, myself. DO NOT strip any wires at all, you can stick the point of the meter in just to make contact and get a reading without exposing any Hot wires. Slowly check each wire for 12 volts. ( if none read that, check your fuse box) that will be your constant 12v, or yellow. Then reground the meter, insert ket, turn to acc, then re meter all of the lines, looking for 12v again ( for red/switched +12v on the harness.) After finding that, switch it to Ohms, or the horseshoe looking one. Pick a wire as a starting point, and stick the other end of the meter in until it either reads a number, possible 2 - 8, and that's a speaker ( I would also write all of the colors down for this) And keep repeating until you fine all 2 to 4 plus speakers. Having cut the plug can also have done excessive damage, like to Onstar, if installed, or any security system also. using metal cutters, cutting through power/ground/speaker/ and other wires all at once, and sometimes be catastrophic to vehicles, seeing how much technology is in them. I hope the best for you, and next time, pony up for ther harness ;) Good Luck! P.S. if that seems too much to do, a hardwire goes for a couple hundred from a shop, as pure labor. just as a heads up.
