- Q:My cat is constantly scratching my oriental rugs. They are extremely old and she's just always on them. Does anyone know if she can do any damage to them? If so, is there anything I can put on them to keep her off?
- Heck yes she can damage them. If they are that old and valuable, either take them up, or put them into a room where she cannot get into.
- Q:I really can't find any info on installation online. I have even been at hardware sites and was given a generic explanation. Do you remove your old carpet?
- I`m with Wheeza on the first part, however, for actual installation Start on the walls that will be *Seen* first when you enter the room. That way your pieces won`t be as visible esp if the walls are not square and you have a 3 inch piece at one end and 6 inches at the other end (don`t laugh, it happens). You can use Any carpet glue available at Home Depot and as Wheezer says, hardware stores using a notched trowel. Don`t spread too thick `tho or it will smush up through your tiles esp if thin and make a heck of a mess. Just make sure it`s not flammable. My brother and I set fire to a kitchen once not realizing the stuff was flammable. When the fumes hit the water heater it spread over the floor where I was spreading and up the walls (old house with flammable paint/thinner used) quicker than we could blink. Hope this helps. - Oxy clean does not contain bleach and will not change the color of your carpet.Oxy clean makes several different products and some even state they will work on carpets.If you want to try it on a out of site area such as under a piece of furniture.But I believe it will be fine.
- Q:When I first moved into my apartment it reeked like cat urine and the carpets where filthy. I shampooed the carpets using a water and laundry detergent but the carpet still looks bad. I have read about using vinegar and I tried it on one spot but I dont know that I used the right amount because it didnt seem to work. - It is hard to get rid of cat or dog urine. 2 choices,get it steamed cleaned don't buy any extras if you do,it could run you a large bill. check junk mail for specials,the deals that they have are worth it. it should run you about 40 to 90 bucks on 3 to 5 rooms. If you are on budget rent a carpet cleaner at fry's they are cheap,just make sure you don't over do it with carpet cleaner(soap). on spots treat it with carpet cleaner direct in heavily soiled areas,scrub the area with what ever you choose(I usually rub it with my shoe's in a back and forward motion on the treated area's) when finished with soap applications. Run the carpet machine on hot water with NO soap ,run the machine with hot water only to get all of the soap residue especially in treated areas. Bad side if you leave soap residue the carpet will get worse in a few month's. A carpet that has has been stained with dark colors like oils,gum, ash burn's,coffee,juises (etc), will have small chances of the carpet fiber's to return to it's original color, so don't think it's going to look like new again. After you finish if there is still a bad smell, chances are that the dog/cat urine got deep in the carpet padding and will need more cleaning's to get rid of smell. you will have to wait for carpet to completely dry and re clean, depending on how much urine there is left behind you will have to repeat the process to get results.The vineger trick that they told you about is used right after a spill has accured to help pick up the spill. requires 50/50 water and vineger best used with spray bottle.

- Yes. I definitely think that those are carpet beetles. I had a similar situation in my room where I stored a lot of old clothes and old items, and I found small fuzzy insects. - Q:My male cat just recovered from a urinary tract infection. He urinated on my beautiful fairly new woven rug for the very first time (he ALWAYS goes in his litter box); that's how we knew he had an infection. Ever since that one little offense, he decided that the rug is his and he drags it around my house. I sprayed and cleaned his tinkle off of it immediately right after the offense, why is he doing this? I put the rug back but over and over he drags it to other rooms. How can I claim my rug back?
- It is his rug now. But it is possible that all the scent is not gone, although that is not the reason I would think he is taking it. If there was scent present, I would expect him to urinate there again, just to mark the spot again. Washing the rug in a regular cycle with a cup of white vinegar, followed by a regular wash will remove all scent. Looks like you may have to get another area rug, and let him have what he now considers his.
- Q:Silly Putty dried on my carpet! How do I get it off???
- Step 1: Scrape any excess Silly Putty off the carpet with a butter knife or spatula. Step 2: Spray WD 40 onto rag and gently work it into the spot with remaining Silly Putty. Step 3: Allow it to stand for 20 minutes. Step 4: Gently blot up the area, removing as much of the WD 40 as possible. Step 5: Apply small amount of alcohol to a clean corner of the rag and gently blot any remaining WD 40. If needed, follow up with a small amount of mild soap and warm water. Blot dry with clean, dry paper towel or rag. Step 6: If the stain is particularly stubborn, repeat above steps and gently use a toothbrush to get any remaining particles out.
