- Q: I was wondering how shark steam mop performed on carpets. does it remove stains and spots?
- I don't own one, but they appear to be designed for hard flooring such as tile and linoleum. There's only a cloth at the bottom where the steam passes through. I think you'd really be struggling trying to use one on carpet. A better alternative would be a carpet cleaner, Bissell and Hoover are both good brands. Expect to pay $150-300 and up. But for a budget, I love the Little Green Machine by Bissell which is much smaller. Don't try to clean an entire carpeted area with it or you'll be exhausted! But it's great for cleaning upholstery and for picking up spills on carpet, and doesn't take up a lot of storage space. Costs around $100 and you can get it at WalMart and many other retailers. Then if you need to do your whole carpet, you can rent an extractor for around $25 (check with your local supermarket, they probably rent Rug Doctor, etc.). You can get the job done in a day and not have a bulky machine taking up valuable closet space the rest of the year.
- Q: I have a white carpet that has gotten dirty over the years. The color has just generally changed to a dirtier white. It's kinda dark and you can easily tell which parts of the carpet haven't gotten dirty over the years as they are perfectly white. I also have some stains. I tried bleaching some parts of the carpet which did actually work, but that left clean spots that look weird compared to how the rest of the carpet is. I would bleach the whole thing but it created such a strong smell last time that I couldn't sleep in my room. - Did you smoke or have pets in your home? Unless you misrepresented the rug to the buyer in some way, such as not telling her the rug was the cat's bathroom or not telling her the rug had been flooded with dog urine, you are not obligated to do a thing. Often, and I really mean often, some people will experience buyer's remorse and want their money back. If you know the rug was in good condition and you represented it as such, don't give the money back. They might take you to court, but again they will have to prove you lied about the rug when you sold it to them. This aggravation is part of doing business.

- how long is the project going to take? if it is just going to be a few days and you plan on someone getting a stretcher and stretching the carpet back in the new place,I would just pull all the carpet back from one side of the wall,where the herth is, and then put it in and let the carpet guys go from there.... they will also have to take up the old tackwood and put new around the hearth so that would make it a lot easir for them...... if for some reason,like the room is to odd shaped you can't do it like that just allow a couple inches in from the measurements of the new hearth on the carpet and rough cut it...........
