- They bite live animal remains and products, like mounted animals, skins and fibers such as wool and silk. Not live animals. The varied carpet beetle, Anthrenus verbasci, is common in California. The adult is about 1/10 inch long and black with an irregular pattern of white, brown, and dark yellow scales on its elytra (wing covers). In older adults the scales that form this pattern wear off so the beetles appear solid brown or black. Outdoors, female beetles search out spider webs and nests of bees, wasps, and birds in which to lay their eggs. - Carpeting should be cleaned as infrequently as possible. Cleaning carpet actually contributes to making your carpeting more dirty. This sounds strange, but it is true. The reason is that soaps are used in the cleaning machine that get into the carpet fibers. Is it difficult or impossible to get all of the soaps out of the carpet because only a small amount of water is used to clean to keep your floors from being saturated. Becuause the soap is added and not completely removed, when the cleaning is finsihed, it leaves soap in the carpet. When you walk on the carpet the soap acts as a glue almost that attracts dirt and filth. You can try this yourself by taking some liquid soap and putting it on your floor and later feel it. it will be sticky. So, instead of cleaning your carpet every 6 months or 12 months, just dry vaccum frequently. Personally, i only have my carpet professionally clean when absolutely necessary, about once every 6 years.

- You should wait until it is thoroughly dry. If you have to move furniture back on, slip something (like wax paper or plastic wrap) under the legs first.

- when you say rugs i assume you mean throw rugs and not carpeting. throw rugs can be taken to the car wash and sprayed off then vacuumed there or with a shop vac. let them dry outside on a clothes line or over a fence. the high pressure soap, then high pressure rense does a great job of getting them clean. if carpet is the issue rent a machine or call a company that cleans carpet
