Q: How can I test to be sure my water pump is working before I go to the lake and burn up my motor. `72 65hp johnson. thank you.: You have essentially two correct answers, but looking at the year of your engine I would like to add some clarity. If memory serves, the 1972 engine doesn't have what we today think of as a tell-tale. Meaning that nice little stream of water that comes out of a tube on the starboard side of the engine. Using my poor memory I believe there is and exhaust port, usually one or two outlets together, centered in the rear of the engine, just below the fiberglass engine cover, maybe a little lower. And again, if memory serves, water doesn't flow in a stream from there, but kinda comes bubbling/spraying out. This will be the place to check for exhaust water, and whether or not the impeller is working. Also, like the idea of using the earmuffs, just in case there is thru-hub exhaust you can see it also. If the hub is in the water you can see it exhaust water.

Q: I tried using my water line with a pressure tank and pressure switch but without a pressure tank I observed that when he pressure reaches 30 psi the motor pump switches off automatically and when we open the faucets to use water the pressure switch turns on again the motor pump.: Never use a water well pump system without a pressure tank. You want a specific amount of run time and off time on the submersible pump that will bring your water system and tank to a set pressure range. And as said, it is a buffer to eliminate surging. Plus permit a proper cycle time. Most standard water systems are set in a 20 pound differential. Pulling a defective submersible pump is not fun or inexpensive. Make a call - you will be glad you did in the long term.

Q: Okay, I'm setting up an NFT hydroponic garden and am now looking for the water pump. I would like some suggestions for one that will give a steady stream at a good rate for the plants. But, it must have a minimum lift of 5ft to reach the first level.I would prefer one with a flow rate adjustment but if you could at least make a suggestion to the GPH it should pump for the right flow after a 5 ft climb I could search more in that range for one I like.Thank you!: I think you may want to look at the small pond pumps and just about any nursery or home supply store or landscaping store. they may have the specs on hand, or see if they can demo one for you. some places have a display pond set up already. You also might try a small swimming pool pump and put a voltage regulator in the line and adjust the pump speed that way. maybe rig a sewing machine pedal in the line and use a C clamp for an adjuster. I love rigging thing. It may not work with a gfi plug.

And also if there is a bubbling sound of air and no water is being supplied what does it mean ?: I will 'clarify' the question, then respond----- If you have a 1HP motor connected to a water pump,; what is its lifting capability ? (like raising the water UP from a well)... At or neat 'sea level', the very ideal (perfect) pump can lift water UP from 33 feet below. To be practical, considering in-efficiencies(losses) you should plan for about 25 feet of lift. Gurgling or bubbling of air/water is a good sign that the pump can not generate the vaccum-seal to begin the flow of water(priming process). You need to provide a way to prime the pump. To prime the pump, you need to supply a flow of water INTO the pump as it is running(water must be running backward into the well, then the pump will initiate the lifting process. To prevent the need to prime the pump everytime that you turn it on, you should put a check valve at the INTAKE orifice (the very end that sticks in the well). This will hold the column of water in the pipe; preventing it from running back into the well. (A check valve allows fluid to flow in one direction only....this must be connected such that the water can only flow UPWARD, out of the well.
