- Q: was told by a Toyota Service that this would only be 1 hour more labor and cost me about 140 dollars more..and that they always recommend it being done same time as timing belt and water pump replacement....but is really a good idea or not? (if engine is 20 years old..but has ony 150 ,000 miles on it..btw. this is for a 94 Toyota 4 Runner V6 engine
- Yes do it. As long as your in there. I do the same thing and recommend it also. You have a good mechanic man that seems to know their stuff.
- Q: 1996 Eagle Vision tsi,has a small coolant leak, was told it iso.k. due to a water pump pressure release valve?has anyone heard of this on an auto?I thought they were only in hot water tanks at home.
- This is a new one to me! All water pumps have a weep hole in front of the water pump bearing to alert mechanics and owners the water pump needs replacing. The pressure inside a cooling system is controlled by the pressure cap on the radiator or coolant recovery tank. Many cars have the pressure cap now directly on the reserve coolant recovery tank. Ford is an example. As pressure builds when the coolant gets hot the relief spring inside the radiator cap allows coolant to pass to the coolant recovery tank @ atmospheric pressure if the pressure cap is located directly on the radiator. As coolant cools a small plunger in the center of the radiator cap opens and coolant returns to the motor and radiator. The whole idea is to completely eliminate air bubbles inside the cooling system. I'd have to actually see this in a Chrysler shop manual as you could be loosing coolant and have no idea where or why. What you're explaining to us doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Someone is whistling sweet nothings in your ear.
- Q: Can I install a recirculating hot water pump to a boiler? Someone just told me that I have a boiler not a water heater, but I have to wait for minutes for the shower to heat up
- Yes
- Q: I got a water pump replaced a few month back, ( i own a 95 Honda civic) i have a wierd muffled rattle coming from that part of my car, i was told by a mechanic that it sounds like a bearing is dried out, he says that it wont affect the water pump itself but the ratlle will remain ... is this true . . .
- A bearing is designed to move freely, if it becomes dry there is a very good chance that it will cause it to fail. If i was you i would get it changed as soon as possible because you don`t won`t to be broken down.
- Q: I have a big garden ,I have plant all kinds of flowers, including roses,Chrysanthemum, but everyday i have to water them one after one pot,a little waste time and waste my energy.who can help me ?tks
- you can set up a water drip system..with small lines going to each pot..and then all you have to do is turn on the water ..you can get them pretty cheap at any garden store...or take a garden hose and lay it out where the plants are and go along and poke a small hole or two by each pot so the water sprays the plants...or just get a sprinkler ...
- Q: Does anyone know or can show me a picture of the location of the water pump in the '97 Totota avalon please? I'm trying to replace mine. Please and Thank you :)
- Front of engine block, behind fan and driven usually by the crankshaft.
- Q: the outboard runs fine and pumps water out with muffs on but when i put it in the water it doesn't pump any water at all. could it be that the impeller needs replacing? what do you think?thanks
- No question about it. Replace the impeller. It's easy - the hard part is getting the fasteners off without breaking a stud. Be patient and use liquid wrench and give it an hour or more to work. Tap the nuts and then try them. A final resort would be careful (very careful) use of a propane torch to free the nuts. If not replaced, eventually blades will break off the impeller and foul the cooling system.... which can be a very expensive and difficult repair.....overheating is also very bad for the engine.... so fix the water pump.
- Q: I have a 1 HP water pump that will pump water through a 1 and 1/2hose. What is the approx. GPM (just to have a reference) of a pump like this?
- many times the water pumps are AC grant pumps. in AC grant, you could not exchange the enter voltage and hence the area of utilising a million hp pump as 0.5 hp does not upward push up. ofcouse you could utilise 0.5 of its potential to pump water however the relax 0.5 would be wasted as warmth capability or frictional loss. the element is a a million hp pump will consume a similar potential what ever potential u choose to apply it.
- Q: Hello online mechanics! You guys have saved me a lot of money on my car, so now I have a new question! I have a 97 Ford Contour and lately since it's been cool in NJ, I've been hearing a tapping coming from the timing belt cover, but when the car warms up, there's no sound. I took the car to my mechanic and he says that I need to have the timing belt replaced, the pulleys adjusted, and the water pump changed. The price for doing the timing belt was $400 (including adjusting the pulleys) and $700 for the timing and the water pump. My question is ; do I need to do the water pump? He says that if you do the timing belt, that you should do the water pump too, but should I if there's nothing wrong with it ( as far as I know) and I'm not looking for the added expense? I thought if it ain't broke don't fix it still applies to things, or am I mistaken? Thanks guys gals! In these tough economic times, I'm not looking to spend any more than is necessary!
- ask some of your friends if they have a mechanic that they trust . Take the car to them and see if you get the same answer ?
- Q: I have a 1990 GMC K1500 Sierra and about 1 week ago I went to check the anti-freeze level. I noticed it was a tiny bit down. So I look down at the lower radiator hose and it had a slow drip. So the next day I changed the anti-freeze, New thermostat, and a New lower radiator hose. So I thought it was fine but yesterday I went to go check the anti-freeze and the level was down. I look at the lower radiator hose and it has a slow drip again. The hose I replace was Brand New. Could this be a water pump? I did notice a tiny bit of anti-freeze on the water pump. Or what could this be or do I have to change the hose again?
- look at the bottom of the water pump best done from on the ground. you will see a small hole at the bottom this is called a weep hole. if you see anti-freeze at the weep hole then the water pump seal is bad and the pump needs replaced. a lot of time the weep hole will leak and run down the hose. if the pump is not leaking then tighten the hose clamp.
