Q:I need a flowchart of the endergy conversions while popping popcorn. Example: Chemical energy to physical energy to nuclear energy, etc.
Starting from the pop and moving towards the energy source The kinetic energy of the popped kernel converting to heat when the kernel comes to rest. The kinetic energy of the kernel from the explosion due to steam and the steam escapes with kinetic and heat energy that transfers to the ambient air as the steam condenses and then the droplets fall and convert kinetic energy to heat. Potential energy in the steam as it builds pressure inside the kernel The transfer of heat from the burner into the popping vessel to raise the temperature of the moisture inside the kernel to make steam Where did the energy come from to heat the burner? I will assume it is electrical energy created from a diesel generator peaker plant nearby There is resistance in the burner heating element that converts the electric current to heat. There is also resistance in the wires and transmission lines and transformers that carry the electricity from the power plant to the burner, which is all lost to heat. The electricity is created from a generator where there is an wire-wound aperture spinning in the presence of a magnetic field. The kinetic energy of the aperture gets converted to the electrical energy and sent out on the transmission lines. The kinetic energy of the aperture is created inside a diesel engine by connecting it to the crank shaft - some friction losses due to bearing surfaces. The kinetic energy of the crank shaft is created from an explosion inside a piston. The explosion creates an expansion of gases that push the piston, which spins the crank shaft. Some of this energy is lost to heat dissipatin and friction. The explosion was from the conversion of the chemical energy in the diesel fuel to heat. The pressure in the piston caused the fuel and oxygen mixture to explode. How's that? j
Q:I want to buy a GENMAX HY6500 GENERATOR FOR 220/240 VOLTS but is wondering if this generator is good. I saw one sold at $1,239 and on another site it was $299.00. I was adviced not to buy Wolf power because of poor customer ratings. I haven't seen any customer rating for GENMAX. I guess this is a Chinese company. The problem I am having in US is that I canot get a 50hz 220-240 volt generators. All I get is 60hz and I am told thy wouldn't work for Africa. Can anybody help?
You can probably get them in Africa proper, and at a better price too, with local support included, minus the shipping cost. When buying a portable generator, check which fuel it uses. Diesel engines last much longer than gasoline. Also, these units are not made to run continuously, but only for emergency or temporary power.and must run isolated from the regular power network. If you want to run more than one and have a small power plant, you need stationary units and a synchronizing panel, with circuit breakers etc. .
Q:i am going to buy a second hand generator which is 108kva diesel enginehow can i test it so i know it starts but also is capable of running around 80-100kvai want to make sure it is strong and still working and not that it just startsplease help thankssam
You need to load test it and operate it to test both the power output of the diesel, and the condition of the generator.See if you can rent the use of a salt box to load test the generator.or see if the seller will allow you to hook it up to your equipment at your place and see if it will carry the load under real world test conditions. Note, a marine electrical shop,or motor rewind facility should have a salt box. Call and ask them
Q:Diesel fuel savers are available today for diesel engines. These can be used for most diesel engines from school buses, big rigs, cranes, off-road equipment, marine use, and generators. If a mandate was passed to require these units to be installed tremendose sums of money could be saved by end users. For more info visit bestdieselsolutions
Too bad they don't work. However a recent development has been the use of compressed natural gas in diesel engines. Until recently CNG could only be used in less efficient spark ignition engines like gasoline engines but it turns out that if the CNG is proceeded with a little diesel fuel, they can also be compression ignited.
Q:How long can I run a Diesel Power Generator before I have to stop it to give it a rest? Also, how many years can I expect a Cummins Diesel Generator to run if maintained properly? One more thing. In the spec sheet of the generator I'm looking at, it states 161 gsm/hp-hr. Is that 161 Grams per Horse Power per hour?So what does that meanHow many liters per hour does that translate too. Thanks for your answers.Greetings from Iran
The engine can run indefinitely without needing to stop for a rest provided it is properly maintained and cooled. You should change the oil and filters after every 200 hours operating time. Properly maintained you should expect at least 25-30 years operating time from the engine. Neglected and it could need replacing in less than 10. Not sure what 161 gsm/hp-hr means. Unlikely to be grams, but gallons per horsepower hour would be extremely high. Need to look further into it
Q:I know about solar panels and wind turbines but either will have to be above ground. Petrol or diesel generators are to loud and fuel isn't cheap these days.
Hello Rig up an auto alternator to an exercise bike running a belt off the bike wheel to the alternator, connect ? to a couple of good 12 volt batteries (deep cycle boat batteries would be best) wired in parallel from battery to an inverter of around 500 to 750 watts this will be enough for lighting, radio, and small toaster. Now of course you will need to set up an exercise routine for running the alternator but you will keep very fit and if their is a few you can take turns and all keep very fit! If you could get more batteries and larger inverter you would be able to run a small kettle as it's only on for minutes so batteries would cope. Regards Alan
Q:i am having a electrical paper in my semester. I want to know about the design of a electrical generator
You could use a physics-type of view that the energy supplied by the input is going to be equal to the output and an efficiency factor for your generator. Then, given the RPM of your motor, you can determine the torque because you will know the horsepower required to generate your wattage.
Q:I want to be able to plug my APC Smart-UPS RT 8000VA 208V into a diesel generator when our power will be down for an extended period of time. The max OUTPUT of the APC unit is 6400w. Does that mean I need at least a 6400w Generator?
yes, plus extra for loses and to charge the battery. I'd get a 10kW unit, at least. But that is a lot of power, do you actually use all of that, or is the UPS oversized? In that case you can reduce the size of the generator. .
Q:I understand it as far as the diesel engine driving the generator- or is it an alternator?- to power the motors which turn the wheels. But does each wheel have its own motor, or is it one motor per axle?
Earlier diesel-electric locomotives used a d.c. generator and d.c. traction motors. In more recent years - since around the 1990s - a.c. alternators have been used, as suitable a.c. traction motors have been developed. Generally, modern diesel-electrics (and electric locomotives) have one traction motor per axle. I am not completely 'au fait' with US practice, but in Europe and many other countries diesel and electric locomotives are classified by wheel arrangement. Thus, a locomotive with two four-wheeled bogies (or trucks), with motors on each axle is classified as a 'Bo-Bo': i.e., 'B' signifying two axles, with the 'o' signifying that each is motored. A typical US twelve-wheeler is a 'Co-Co', and so on. Earlier locomotives - in the UK, for example - were heavier than those produced today for the same power output. They therefore had additional unpowered carrying axles, denoted by figures. For example, the early main line locomotives had a 1Co-Co1 wheel arrangement: two eight wheel trucks, the leading axle of each being unpowered, with motors on the other three. The mid range locomotives produced by Brush Traction were of the A1A-A1A arrangement, consisting of two six wheel/three axle trucks, each with motors on the end axles, and the centre axle un-powered. We even had some odd-ball five axle locomotives with a 'Co-Bo' wheel arrangement. Mechanical transmission is also used on light shunting locomotives and railcars, whilst hydraulic transmission was popular for a while in Germany and the Western Region of British Railways, but is now used for most diesel multiple-unit trains.
Q:Hello friends.I had to make a list of equipment for a civil construction company. Among the equipment were generator and diesel engine. For generator, i am very clear that it is used for alternate power generation in case of electricity un availability. What is the purpose of diesel engine? Where is is used? Guide me please.
Just about every piece of equipment powered by an internal combustion engine found at a civil construction site is powered by a diesel engine. Things such as scrapers, loaders, track hoes, dozers, dump trucks, rollers, and even electric generators are powered with diesel engines.
