Q: I have a 3 bedroom / 1 bath home. It is just 2 of us in the house. Also, I've heard that there is way to plug your generator into any wall outlet and it will charge your whole house. Any truth to this?
Plugging a generator into an ordinary wall outlet limits you 15-20 amps of single phase power, or less than 2000-2500w. And it would only energize one leg, or about half the circuits in your house. You'd also want to throw your main breakers to prevent you from backfeeding the neighborhood and/or electrocuting a lineman. Overall, it's not a safe or efficient way to connect a generator. You want a generator plugin that will safely allow more power to fed into your house along with a transfer switch that will properly isolate your house from the grid whenever you want to connect a generator. As for sizing, you need to figure out what you really need vs. what you have, and for how long. For most storm-related outages, you can probably get by with a relatively small amount of power (refrigerator, a few lights, etc) for the few hours or at most 1-2 days that power will likely be out. If you want to cover longer outages or you have higher level of necessities, then you'll need a larger generator. Also, you need to worry about a fuel supply especially if you're planning for a long outage. Fuel transportation and storage can both be problematic, although the problems vary by fuel type (gasoline, diesel, natural gas or propane).
Q: I just want to know why Oahu is vulnerable to black outs
You know, it not that bad, so not sure why you say they vulnerable to black outs, sure we have some, but not that often, ok? Here the thing, all electric power on island generated by diesel generators, and some time they break down, and infroastructure very suseptible to dampness, so when it rain, like rite now, we gonna get some power outages, but I neva see a true black out where all power out in city, that kinda thing, ok? Both actually, diesel fuel mostly but not entirely, here's why: All modern trains are actually electric and the diesel engine just runs a great big generator to power the electric motors. However some trains are electric and have no diesel engine at all, they get their electricity from overhead power lines. So, seeing as how more than half of all electricity in the U.S. is generated by coal, one would have to say that coal does indeed still power some of our trains and will for years to come, it is done indirectly.

What kind of generator and how is it fueled? A diesel generator will smoke at start-up, and if it is an older unit burning old fuel, it will smoke in operation as well. That would be smoke from the exhaust. If you are writing about smoke from the windings - that is the generator itself - that would be due to an overload and/or winding failure, and caused by the system overheating. If you are writing about smoke coming off the engine - that could be from an oil leak, or debris falling onto the engine and being combusted by heat. Only the first of these is 'normal'.
