Q: ie a ships diesel generator.: I'm assuming by trip you mean shut down/off Plenty of reasons: 1) overheat, most common cause, could be lost water pump or water supply or cooling lines plugged 2) electrical, although diesel does not use sparkplugs there are electrical components. There are glow plugs that get the whole process started when cold, there is a starter motor that gets it all going and there is some method to keep the fuel warm enough to flow correctly 3) Starve for fuel, either fuel ran out, to low temp so its sludge 4) Loss of oil pressure that is used for lubrication 5) Ouput limits, there will be an overcurrent/overvoltage system regulating the output of he generator and if it gets really out of wack then it will kill the whole thing to prevent damage to everything That's all I can think of right now

Q: A new facility is having a problem with getting power supply, is it safe to run the entire facility (including AC/Ref systems) using a diesel generator? is the power quality guaranteed (considering good quality generator) since that suppliers of AC/Ref systems claimed that this facility would lose the warranty in case of using a generator. Thanks in advance.: I've done service work in areas after a hurricane, and I've seen a lot of units run off of generators. There's nothing wrong with it. Those systems are fairly hardy. But if the manufacturer says your warranty is at stake, you have to decide how much that warranty is worth to you.

Q: I was offered a job in the same general posistion for a YOUNG company that has offered me 15.00 more a hour, lead position, training in a differnt brand of the same product I work on and, basicly the freedom to choose my own hours (avg. 40-55 hrs). Or do I stay where I am at were I have some stabability, lead position, unstable hours (avg. 40-65 hrs plus nights away from home/family), possabilities of advancment and, a since of loyalty to bosses. Note: I worked hard to get where I am at, however, my current knowledge is the bases for new job. WHAT DO I DO????????????: A very young company often provides excellent opportunities for advancement since you can grow with the company. So, you have to decide whether you'd rather take a bigger risk for what could be a much bigger payoff. Because, a large number of new businesses fold within the first 5 years. The theory that the hours will be dramatically different is probably wrong. You work as many hours as you do at your present job because that's how you achieve your objectives. If this is essentially the same industry, you should assume that success will require the same effort level at the new business. The type of position also influences the answer to this question. For example, if you were in a sales position, selling an unknown brand would offer a great deal of risk, and potentially major barriers to success. If you're in a web design position, a young company may offer much more opportunity for success since you don't have to overcome the mistakes which have already been made, and have more freedom to innovate. So, think about the type of position you work, and how the position will be different in a start-up.

Q: i.e a house or a hospital.: Diesel or propane are good for long term use on small scale. You want a generator that runs at a low RPM to give a reasonable longevity between rebuilds. A diesel engine with a large storage fuel tank would be the best for small scale power generation. If you have a pipeline source for natural gas you can run a diesel engine on natural gas or propane. What makes a diesel the best choice is that it runs at about 1200 RPM and will run possibly for years without a snag other than oil and filter changes. A gasoline engine runs closer to 4000 or more RPM which causes far more wear and friction and isn't good for long term use. Gasoline is far cheaper and good for temporary generation like for normal power outages. Natural gas or propane generators, especially ran in a diesel style engine, burn very clean and can be cheaper if you have natural gas pipelines in your area, plus you wouldn't need a storage tank for fuel. Even a 10 KW generator could go through 20 gallons of diesel a day, so you would need at least a 500 gallon tank to last a month. Pipe line would eliminate this tank and truck delivery of fuels. If you are looking at off grid power, like solar or wind, it is best to combine the two. Solar heating is the cheapest way of heating water which could be used to heat a house and/or bath water. Wind is the cheapest for DC generation of electric which is stored in big banks of lead-acid batteries. Using LCD lights and low power equipment will minimize the amount of electricity you need to generate and store

Q: I have a new Onan 10k diesel generator engine and an old isuzu pickup truck not worth engine replacement cost. Can this small diesel be adapted to fit the manual transmission?: Anything is possible, but Is it practical? Probably not. Can you do all the work? I hope so, because the amount it would cost in labor to do it would be much more than rebuilding or replacing what you have now.

Q: Hi everybody. well I buyed a welding machine, and I need a portable generator for use the welding machine, but I dont know the generator capacity to use it, if the welding machine is 50 to 250 amps, but I just use from 100 to 200 amps, Can I use a 6000 watss Generator? or I need more power?: About 15KW is needed to run a welder. Preferable is a diesel drive unit. Read the label plate on the welder, it will give the maximum draw needed for the supply side. Double that for the generator rating needed.

Q: I am doing this project to find eco friendly alternatives for businesses. So how is electricity in it generated. Also.why is the pollution of water bad? I mean i realize that it kills marine life, and it affects biodiversity, but how does it affect the wold, or even us humans???: Newer cruise ships have diesel generators that produce enough electricity to run everything; water desalination plants, ships power, heating, recycling/garbage equipment, electric motors on pods that act both as propellers and thrusters so the ships don't need tugboats most of the time. Fish live in the water, people eat fish, someday we might have to have desalination plants for city water systems.

Q: I don't see why I couldn't use my car's engine as a power generator. I would only need maybe 1000 watts. The car is a 1990 Ford F350 diesel.: The easiest would be to get a heavy duty low-speed alternator (like used in police cars and cabs that spend a lot of time idling). It could put out over 1000 watts of 12 volt DC. Then get an invertor (DC-to-AC converter) rated for 1000 watts 120VAC output. If you are not using the alternator to make AC it will still do a great job on keeping your battery charged.

Q: For over a year, about once a month I start this Jeep and run it about 10 minutes. Zero problems until yesterday. It has fresh gasoline just added, cranks over fine, has spark (I have a spark tester) but will not 'pop' over. Upon closer inspection I see it has at least 6 Bosch type relays under the hood and know if one sticks something will not turn on. Any idea's where to start troubleshooting?(I am a retired US Navy diesel generator mechanic).: Yeah.

Q: For hydropower how much MWh can be generated with same capacity plant?. (Because plant never run for 24 hours of the day we need a factor to calculate above value): They sure do run 24 hours a day. Maybe not 365 days a year - allow maybe 1 week down time for maintenance. If you have a particular generator in mind, look up the operating specs for it.
