Q: Hi! Were purchasing new carpet for our mobile home. They sell a pad to for an extra cost. Never bought carpet before. Is the pad something we really need? Thank you: Yes, you need new pad. Think of carpet pad as the foundation for your carpet....the stronger the foundation, the more durable what's above it. The better the pad, the longer your carpet will last. You can put an inexpensive carpet on a good pad, and have the carpet last longer than an expensive carpet on a cheap pad. I usually recommend and 8 pound 7/16 pad, but if money is tight, don't go with anything less than a 6 pound 7/16.

The paper was burning and went onto the carpet and we cleaned all the ash up and now there is a dirty ashy looking stain on the carpet. How do you get rid of it? I don't mean by buying another carpet, is there anything that could get it out of the carpet? Thank you.: It sounds like the carpet fibers have been burned. If so, you can't repair those fibers, but you can fix the problem with a Carpet Transplant: 1. Cut the marked area out using a razor knife or a single-edged razor blade. Be careful to cut only the carpet, not the padding under it. You can buy either of these products at most hardware stores. 2. Cut a piece of replacement carpet from a place no one will ever notice, like from inside a closet. 3. Put the RUINED piece on a piece of paper and trace around it. This will be your template for the new piece. Cut this out and use it as a pattern. You want an exact match in shape. 4. Glue the replacement piece of carpet in place using waterproof glue. Attach it to the padding underneath. Or you can sew it into place by sewing it to the existing carpet. (You will need a curved needle if you sew it in place.) The repair should be invisible when you're done. -
