- Q: I have just gotten into skateboard and getting quite good now I plan to get better bearings.
- BONES OR ABEC-1
- Q: ok. i got a new pack of bones reds and new wheels. i dont know how to put the bearings in properly though. if I push them in all the way to where the axel goes throgh the wheel there is a good 3mm gap between the bearing and the edge of the wheel, which i'm assuming would make it difficult to get the bearings off. should the bearings go in like that or should they only go to the edge of the wheels? thanks
- Put lube around the sides then put it in the side of the wheel. To put it in all the way just use the axle of the truck to push it in.
- Q: I'm getting some ABEC 5 bearings, but I don't know if I need them sealed or shielded. Right now I'm a beginner so I'm just cruising with the occasional hill if that makes a difference in what I need.
- Some people mistakenly call shields as seals. No one actually uses seals on skates or boards, they create too much drag. If the drag wasn't there, they would be great since they would actually keep water out. It doesn't matter if you get bearings with metal shields or the neoprene coated ones (more likely to be mistakenly called seals. The neoprene ones are all removable for cleaning and lubricating. Most metal shields are removable but occasionally you find non serviceable bearings that have shields that are permanently staked in place. With some work, you can remove the shields on non serviceable bearings by destroying one of them. You only need one shield that is the side of the bearing you see from the outside.
- Q: please introduce me useful related web sites.
- Hydraulic oil is not designed for cleaning, nor is any oil. Use a solvent like denatured alcohol. Lube the bearings with a skateboard bearing lube. The base for hydraulic oil is mineral oil. It evaporates too quickly and the additives can leave a residue that attract dirt and may damage the crown and shield in the bearings and the wheels.
- Q: And if abec 5 is better. Should I put them in my penny board?
- 5 is always better than 3 unless you are trying to restrict your speed. Yeah, put them in.
- Q: Im just wondering how important it is to clean and regrease a cars wheel bearing. Working as a bicycle mechanic, this is something I do on a daily basis to every other bike we work on. And so Ive always wondered why I dont hear about wheel bearing going out on cars, or why I dont hear about having them serviced...Im assuming they are sealed bearings, but still it seems like they should need serviced every so often. I drive an early 90s ford truck, nothing fancy. Is this something I should consider doing, or should I not worry about it unless they start making noise? Thanks!
- The right time to repack (re grease) the bearings is every time you do brakes like if you do the front brakes and you happen to cut (resurface) the rotors, the is the time to repack the bearings and that is done once the rotors are cut and then when you do the rear brakes, they usually don't have bearings that need grease because the get lubricated by the gear oil inside the rear differential so if you only replace the front brake pads without cutting the rotors then don't worry about repacking the bearings, more likely whenever you need to replace the rotors then for sure you will have idle new bearings or repack the old bearings before you Transfer them in to the new rotors. Hope this info. is helpful
- Q: I am going to purchase some on amazon. What is the difference between the two? Please explain in detail.
- There are several things you could be referring to and a cite would have clarified the issue. There are several types of bearings that are used for any type of rotating shaft. These can include sleeve bearings, ball bearings, roller bearings and some very high tech magnetic bearings. The magnetic bearings will usually be electromagnetics and are used for some high speed flywheels contained within a vacuum. There are also bearings marketed specifically for electric motors as electric motor bearings. They are not electric bearings but likely sleeve, roller or ball bearings made for electric motors. If English were a second language it may be more clear to see this as electric-motor bearings and not electric motor-bearings. Amazon returns items under the search term electric bearings and this might include bearings made by the General Electric corporation or bearings of various types made for electric motors.
- Q: what kind of bearings are better for a skateboard???
- i personaly like bones reds
- Q: I have this set of bearings i got recently with my skateboard deck i purchased on ebay, the board and bearings are brand new from 1988, the bearings was in there original package. When i took the bearings out they dont spin very much at all. They only read 608 zz on both sides and they come with silver spacers. Are these good bearings and if so, how could i beable to get these to work more better.
- Those are probably just cheap bearings that aren't any good. I would recommend just getting new bearings. Buy bearings from Bones, they are the best. Bones Reds are the most cost efficient and work really well (~$12). Bones Swiss are the next step up if you have a little more cash to spend (~$35).
- Q: Need 3 5/8 closed end bearings.
- Check okorder . They'll have what you need if you can navigate your way through their enormous on-line catalog to find it. You'll need a credit card to place an order. These folks must be the world's largest engineering supply company. You want pillow bearings for a 3 5/8 shaft? They won't be cheap. Why would anyone want a closed end linear bearing -- sounds like an oxymoron. Seems I have more questions than answers.
