Q: How do you remove it without taking the engine out?
Disconnect lower radiator hose (8286) from the water pump lower tube. Remove the engine mount nuts. Remove the cowl extension panel. Disconnect the water bypass hose and the heater hose from the water pump outlet tube. Remove the water pump outlet tube bolt and position the tube assembly out of the way. Install the lifting eye to the exhaust manifold (9430). Attach engine lifting equipment and raise the engine 127 mm (5 inches). Remove the bolt and the accessory belt idler pulley. Remove the bolts and the generator support bracket. Remove the four bolts and the water pump pulley (8509). Remove the water pump. Remove the five nuts. Remove the five studs. Remove the four bolts. Remove the water pump, lower tube and gasket as an assembly.
Q: 1978 Ranchero 500. Pumps leaking like crazy. I have a belt to remove, which i assume is the serpentine belt? Its tight as can be on the pulleys. I have no clue how to remove this and any other advice on this do-it-yourself project would be much appreciated. Thanks
Replacing a water pump when you don't even know if you're talking about the serpentine belt or not, is not a DIY job.
Q: I want to buy a 2000 Audi tt coupe that seems to be in good condition. The owner mentioned he has replaced the water pump. What could the reason be for having to replace the water pump? Could the car have over heating issues?
Despite the fact that i'm an audi character, and scoff (for no logical intent) at the bmws as I drive by way of, i'd go for the bmw given these picks. Many moons ago i drove bmws, however i fell in love with the quattro once I drove my first audi. I don't know how bmw is excellent-smart in this day and age, but the older ones i had had been bulletproof. On the other hand, my audis have dealt with me good too... Residing in new england, audis are far and wide given that of the quattro. I cant believe of someone who has had a TT and used to be overly overjoyed concerning the auto.
Q: I am trying to replace my old water pump with a new one. I have the quot;special tooland everything but i just cant get the water pump to come loose at all. Any suggestions would be helpful Thanks
When you mean it wont come loose, do you mean you cant break the bolts loose or is the pump stuck on the motor like glue? If the bolts are stuck, try spray them with penetrating oil and let it work in for about 30 mins. If the pump is stuck, use a narrow putty knif, gently tap in between the pump and the block, and pry it off, then clean the mating surface completely to ensure the new pump seals properly.
Q: s10 blazer with 130k original miles.. is leaking water but not from the water pump... just replaced it and still leaking from the same area... where are the freeze plugs located? where else could it be leaking from? it lools like its coming from harmonic balancer or close by!!
look at the housing that the water pump bolts to ,it may be busted and there's some of the bolts that go all the way through in to the block if those wasn't coated with sealant it will still leak from the bolts that hold the water pump on,and that will make it appear to be leaking from the front cover, you got two freeze plugs in the front and three down each side, good luck with it,
Q: For the past couple days my car has been over heating quickly and there ha been some leaking underneath my car. well I went to start my car today to run to the store and the heating gauge was going up and down from overheating to perfectly fine within seconds...I popped the hood and there was antifreeze spraying on the engine. So my friend that I called said that meant there was a leak in my water pump. The autoshop in town is busy with over cars all day, I already called, and there isn't another shop within 15 miles. I work in 3 hours, and the drive is 30 minutes away. I have no other way to get to work, is it safe to drive my car or should I call in and let my manager know I can't make it? I have been working there almost 2 months and have never been late or called in.
if you are planning on keeping your car you, better get it fix. call your employer and tell him what is wrong. i am sure he would not want you to take a chance.
Q: water pump has small leak
Is it leaking from the center where the fan shaft comes thru? If so its toast and will have to be replaced. There is a seal there that goes bad sometimes and its too big to clog up. From a hose fitting, replace the hose clamp or the fitting if it comes off. From a crack? You can try Bars Leak or some other radiator sealer from an auto parts store. Buy some, wait for your car to cool down. Open a radiator cap if you got one and pour in. If you don't have one then take off a hose. There will be all kinds of metal shavings, sand and BBs in the bottom of the jar. That is the good stuff, make sure you get it inside. Then drive your car for at least 30 min. A cross country trip would be better. That goo is forced to the leak as water gets out. It is bigger/thicker than water and makes a bandage on the inside, hardening when it gets cool again. They also have it for oil leaks, get the right one. .
Q: we changed the water pump it went bad and there is still a knock in it please help it is running really sluggish
engine was overheated and you may have damaged the head gasket or cylinder head. Cylinder compression test should be done to make sure that you did not blow the head gasket. Any trained mechanic should be able do this test for around $100.
Q: In case our electric goes out we would like to be able to run the water pump (for the well) via solar panel. Can you give me instructions, pitfalls, recommendations, links etc to help me get started? The more solar info i can get the better!thanks 10 points on offer! Our sunlight is unobstructed

Q: My car is overheating and i don't know why just trying to rule out as many options as possible.Things it is most likely not: blown gasket/cracked head, both replaced 2 years ago and no tell tale signs I will be doing a block test soon, thermostat replaced it and put the old one in hot water and it opened, hoses replaced with new one two years ago, no leaks pressure test a few days ago. Things yet to be ruled out The radiator being clogged or not allowing good airflow, water pump impeller failure.
If the water pump impeller fail your heater will not work properly because the coolant is not circulating .If coolant is low or restricted heater core will result more or less the same condition. However overheating can be cause by timing too.Blown head gasket can be verify with compression test.Water pump can leak while you are driving and may leave little to hard to detect trace of leak.It can pissing for a few seconds and stop for a while. Do not over look the pressure cap.It can cause overheating symptoms boiling over the recovery tank.Plug rad will definitely cause that. The cooling fan -if electric can be faulty. Some has a module or relay activate by a temperature sensor. Some has a temp.sensor sending signal to the COMPUTER and the computer turns the e-fan on or off.If any of those components is faulty.you can have overheating problems.check it out
