- Q: How often is the average for replacing living room or bedroom carpet, I know it depends on the traffic, etc but just wondering averages and when is it time to replace instead of having it cleaned
- Carpet when not cleaned won t last but 5/6 years or less if you have a cheaper carpet.. Its suggested that you have it professionally cleaned at least once a year to make it last. Better made carpets when cleaned regularly will last 12/15 years. Sweeping it at least weekly ( manufactures suggest daily but lets be real lol) will extend the life of a carpet greatly. - Q: How to deal with the color of rose petals on the carpet?
- You can only clean it by several times. There is no possibility to remove it one time by diluted oxalic acid. You must be careful that each time to clean it with a large amount of water, and the stain will be lighter after a time's cleaning, with a absorbent cloth to absorb water , repeat several times. One-time removal is impossible, you should ensure that the dilution will not make the carpet colors fall off
- Q: Carpets were used in China in 500 BC. The earliest known carpets originated in China and Iran in the 5th century BC. In 1606, carpets woven by looms were first used near Paris, France. Today's carpets are usually woven from man-made fiber and wool.
- The vivid history tells us that the carpet was originally made by the ancestors to keep out the cold. During the Qin and Han Dynasties, the nomadic people outside the Great Wall began to weave and use carpets as cold ground objects. There were carpets with fine workmanship in the Western Han Dynasty. With the elimination of the Huns by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, the Silk Road, a trade route to West Asia and Europe, was opened. The silk road not only carries silk, carpets, porcelain, tea and spices, but also promotes the exchange and dissemination of eastern and Western cultures. The Chinese carpet weaving technology came to the Middle East and Europe along with China's Silk Road through Central Asia. At the same time, it also showed the Chinese people the Persian carpet representing the Persian civilization. In Persian carpet patterns, there are still many patterns exactly the same as Chinese carpet patterns. Others believe that the pattern of Persian carpet comes from China, but it has been carefully modified and added Persian color in the hands of Persian designers, so as to become a pattern with Middle East style. Since the Western Han Dynasty, the two ancient civilizations have been learning from each other, exchanging and drawing lessons from each other. Traditional Chinese patterns, traditional Persian patterns and weaving techniques have been integrated with each other for a long time, thus achieving an elegant and delicate carpet art.

- Q: rug is wool. its new. it costs 80 dollars to clean with the company.. id rather do it by hand.what besides hot water and a rug.. do i put on it to clean it by hand?
- Prop it up off the floor with wadded newspaper where you can. Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet and let it sit overnight then vacuum it up. In the morning put some vanilla extract in a empty spray bottle with warm water and spray the carpet lightly. Between the vanilla and the baking soda treatments the smell will be neutralized. Open windows if you can..The formaldehyde smell lasts a good week.
- Q: How to deal with the cigarette ash on the carpet?
- You can suck the dust if the cigarette ash can be, hair dryer can also be used. If it can not be sucked, wash part of the carpet, that's it.
- Q: I would like to make a rag rug what type of fabric is the best to use?
- Anything washable
- Q: I am trying to find a practical solution to carpeting my basement with pets and kids in the house. I was looking at carpet tile because I can just replace a worn or stained piece. Has anyone here used carpet tile? What brand did you buy and how did it hold up? Can this be easily installed or do I need a pro? Any tips?
- i have used carpet tile for what i wanted it was perfect!! VERY VERY EASY to install (much easier than peel press tile) easy to trim- we used it because i wanted an ultra low nap carpet in the baby's room (she had severe dust allergies) the rest of the house we removed all the carpet down to the cement floor. the only 'issue' i have had is that with constant picking at it a tile can be pulled up (small bored child LOL!) but if you keep any extras its easily replaced) we had no dogs at the time so cannot speak to that if i had it to do over.... i wouldnt have bothered. we LOVE the cement floor. once she out grew the crawling stage the only carpets we use now are throw rugs that are easily cleaned i would never go back to having any carpet by choice. the plain flooring can be polished/ stained or left as is- its especially nice in the looooong summer weather we have here. in the winter the throw rugs warm it up. if you truly dont like the cement - consider the new floating wood floors like pergo- you might be happier in the long run- remember that if you are prone to any kind of flooding in your basement carpet holds mold (yecch!) rj
- Q: We are having trouble with fleas right now in our home. We tried borax already and it did not work. I also heard Hartz product doesn't do anything.Right now i'm thinking of ironing the rug. will it kill them?
- Throw rug or a huge rug or wall-to-wall carpet? Ironing a rug may melt the fibers if it is a polyester fiber rug or carpet. I do not think that the iron with produce enough heat to reach the base of the rug fibers. IOW, not a good idea. What the linked sites recommend is steam cleaning, even a professional steam cleaning. Be sure to let the professional know your rugs have a flea infestation. The cost might be a couple hundred for a professional steam cleaning, but that is worth the cost to be rid of fleas . If you have small rugs you can run them through the a hot washer load, and depending on fabric, a dryer.
