Q: It has dried on the carpet
Go to an auto parts store and purchase a can of aerosol brake cleaner. Spray it on the tar and dab it up with a terry cloth towel as it softens and comes loose. This product smells a little so air out the room after use.
Q: The carpet will go in a finished basement. The basement has bare concrete right now.
There is little that you have to do. Just ensure that the concrete surface is entirely dry.
Q: Apparently I put too much woolite on our carpet, and it won't come out. Ive tried wet rags but it just keeps foaming. Is there an easy way to get this soap out?
maybe try a carpet cleaner with just water in it and no cleaning solution. Since the carpet cleaner will suck the water back out maybe it will suck the woolite out of it as well! Good Luck
Q: I just bought a really nice wool rug and am now scared if anything ever happens to it, how to clean. Can I treat it like normal carpet and just use rug cleaner? Soap/water?
I wouldn't clean it like a normal carpet. Certainly do not steam clean it or use soap and water. There is a dry carpet cleaning method called Capture. You can usually find it at the supermarket near the other rug cleaning products, or at a DIY home improvement store like Lowe's or Home Depot. It comes in a kit. You sprinkle the stuff on the carpet -- its sort of semi-damp and clumpy -- then use the brush that comes with the kit to rub the stuff into the stain or the entire rug. Let it sit for a bit, then vacuum up the residue. I have used this on my wool area rugs in the past and it works great.
Q: are house is getting new flooring and i was wondering wats better hard wood flooring or carpet?
Carpet if u want warmth. Wood if u want it to look more up to date, but you can always add rugs. In my house we have wood with a few rugs, it looks good but still warm and comfortable.
Q: how to make a latch rug
Google in how to make a latch hook rug
Q: my daughter knocked the iron of the ironing board and has burnt the carpet. the colour of the carpet is a biscuit colour . please can any one help any ideas ?????
if u have carpet in a closet then u can take a small piece from there where in won't be noticed and try to put in in the area that is damaged.....maybe use a liquid nail type glue which is found in the painting section of the hardware store
Q: My sister has a 9x12 area rug that laid flat on hardwood floors and now that she wants to put it on carpet, it curls on the edges and bunches in the middle. Is there any way to keep it flat? It's a beautiful rug, but right now she has it rolled up against a wall.
Lay heavy books on top of any areas of the rug that aren't flat. Let them sit there for about a week. The rug will be flat as a pancake!
Q: The carpet guy came to our house and measured our room out the other day, and said to put the baseboards in after. I read on a lot of sites to do the base boards first. Is the carpet company asking us to do it this way so its easier for them? Should we put baseboards in first even though they say not to?
If your doing newly painted base boards( you don t say) they may have trying to avoid scratching freshly painted boards or a newly urethaned base.. Since paint wont thoroughly cure for a month, even a careful installer can scratch baseboards. The backing on new anti static carpets can be worse than sandpaper. I m not defending them, but showing you a point from a store owner/installer s view. I agree that baseboards should be installed 1st with a small gap under them so carpet can be tucked in and cut. This way your not installing base over a new carpet. Its a tough call either way. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.. GL
Q: Some wax fell on the carpet(quite dense) and i tried the old trick ironing down a piece of paper on top of it to lift the wax off. It has worked for me before. But now, part of the paper has stuck to the carpet. I tried ripping it off real quick but now there's just a huge patch of paper stuck right into the carpet. How can i get it off/out ? Help ?
First, you need to determine if the carpet fibers have melted to the paper. If the carpet is synthetic and since you applied heat, it's a possibility. If it has not melted, use a wax solvent, available at the grocery in the cleaning products aisle to remove the wax and the paper. If the carpet has melted, the only way you'll be able to remove it is to cut it off. You can try, with very small scissors to go under the paper and trim the fibers to remove the paper. Remove as little fiber as possible, obviously. If that technique isn't feasible, you may have to replace a portion of the carpet. If you don't have any extra carpet, perhaps you can remove a piece from inside a closet. Using a carpet knife, cut a square out of the carpet removing the damage, use the cut piece as a template to cut a new piece to place into the hole. There is carpet binding tape available at most craft stores to bind the seams together. When placing the new piece, be sure the weave goes in the same direction.
