Q:does any one know where the water pump is located on a 97 nissan altima? and where can i find one, would pep boys have one?: most cars, it is in the front, driven by the timing belt. If you are going to replace the pump, replace the timing belt also (if there is one), as it's probably overdue, and you have to remove it to get at the water pump. Also the tensioner. Replacing the timing belt is a difficult task. If you screw it up, you could damage the engine. .

Q:I have a 1997 15hp Mercury 2-stroke outboard. When I run it it runs great and does what i want it to do. However, sometimes it doesn't pee. I can still hold my hand in the stream when it does but its very very hot. It always pees when i run the motor WOT but when im just chugging along it goes out for a bit and then comes back on. Is this supposed to happen? I was told by my dad that the thermostat regulates the pump so that it doesn't cool the engine down too much. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated: The telltale, or pee as you called it, should run all the time. It should never stop while the boat is running. You probably do need a new water pump, also called an impeller pump. I would not run this boat again until this is fixed or you could risk an overheat. The impeller is just a rubber or plastic blade, looks like a gear, that wears out over time. Every few years they should really be replaced although a lot of people don't change them until they act up.

You would do better to just purchase one of the many fountain pumps all ready available at many home improvement centers or online. They are water proof and have the pump and motor all in one enclosure.

Q:I have a 1978 El Camino V8 305. My power steering has been going out on me, and since then my belt has been squeaking usually when it first starts up. This morning when I got to work, smoke was bellowing from under my hood. Im trying to troubleshoot. It can cause rear in the water pump bearing and damage the seal and cause it to leak out of the weap hole in the both of the water pump hub. Lack of water to engine to cool it can cause added damage. The hold cooling system need to be checked. Including the radiato cap. Usually when a belt sound off when it is started up. Means the belt is ware out. This vehicle the belt can be remove and take power steering toke out of the picture. It will mean hard steering till a new pump can be put on or a rebuilt pump.

Q:the pulley wheel fell off while i was driving and all of the pulleys turn except the two under the water pump pulley. does anyone know if that is supposed to spin by hand or will it only spin when the car is running?: Is it a big pulley down there? I'm thinking its the crankshaft pulley. That one won't turn by hand. Very difficult. What kind of car? Is a serpentine belt which one belt turn everything or multiple belts? A water pump should turn by hand and if its bad it will leak water. But there are time when the pump just goes out. Replace belt

Q:and it still runs about every 1/2 hr even if you are not using water. I have no leaks from the pump thought the house so I think the problem is between the house and the well. I can't hear or see any leaks in the elbows in the well. I tried to pull the foot valve up but can't get it out. I replaced the pump cause it was worn out and it was running every 15 min.
