Q:97 Prelude. What happens when the bearings and drive shaft go bad? How long before I have to replace?
its a front wheel drive no drive shaft. you have two axles, two wheel bearings and the final drive bearings in the transmission. which bearings do you think you need
Q:what are moter bearings and how hard are they to put into a gas engine?
Need to know what what engine your working on.
Q:Can skateshops clean bearings for you?
Yes, they can/ should be able to do that there. Since you said in your other question that you have ceramic bearings, the cost of this cleaning/repair would be alot cheaper than new bearings. I would take it in and see how much they charge, what they suggest, and how confident they are that they can fix it. If they charge alot then just ride them till you notice a decrease in performance. Then take them in and get them cleaned. If they don't charge much and sound like they can easily straighten out the cover, then ya, go for it.
Q:I have bent some of my skateboard bearings and now the wheels seem to go sort of wiggle but not badly?
If your bearings are dented, there is nothing that can be done about it. Either suffer with the wiggling until the bearings fail, or replace them.
Q:I forget hot to change the bearing s in my hockey skates, and what skates/bearings would be best for missions?
First, you need to know which size of bearings you have. Most skates use 608 bearings which are about 7/8 outer diameter. Many hockey skates come with 688 bearings which are 5/8 outer diameter. You can use the other size, as long as you replace the wheels and bearing spacers at the same time. The other thing you need to know is which axle size you have. 6mm axles are about 1/4 and 8mm axles are about 3/8. For 6mm axles, you push the thin edge of the spacer so that it pushes the far bearing out the other side of the wheel. For 8mm axles, you have to pull the near bearing our towards you. The easy way is to use a bearing tool or 1/4 socket handle to roll the bearing out. Much easier to show than describe. Any quality bearing will be great.
Q:Rear wheel bearings - how important to replace as a pair?
This sounds like the technician that diagnosed the vehicle either had bad hearing or he just did not care and said tell him it needs both of them to the service writer! Yes, the idea about they have equal wear (as stated by the other poster) it true, but, I am a fan of if it ain't broke don't fix it on the wheel bearings, because there is nothing that has to be taken off as an assembly (each side is an individual labor) So I would recommend replacing them only as they wear out! (tell him to tell you which side is making the noise!!!) ADDED; Also Please, When asking ANY automotive question give as much vehicle information as possible YMM (year, make, model) and engine size if possible! This is very important when diagnosing a problem, no matter how small!
Q:Would air bearings on an electric care work?
It could be applicable to electric cars and also maybe more applicable in the AirCars that TATA is producing in India (and with plans here in the US). Where the air cars have a ready supply of compressed air they use for propulsion the electrics would need an electric motor to drive a compressor. The think is that since these bearings are frictionless the amount of energy used to feed the bearing only has to overcome the amount of energy normally consumed in friction. Not sure what bearings though... lots of bearings in any automobile, electric or otherwise. The thing is with air bearings the load has to be fairly constant. Could never use them in a recipocating mass like crankshaft, connecting rod bearings in an internal combustion engine. Would work in a turbo-charger though.
Q:Help with vectors and bearings please!?
using compass bearings: (2,60°) + (1,90°) = (2.9093, 69.8961°) - - - - - - (2,60°) = (1.7321, 1) - - - - - - (1,90°) = (1, 0) - - - - - - (1.7321, 1) + (1, 0) = (2.7321, 1) - - - - - - so: a) 2.9093 km b) (1.7321, 1) and (1, 0)
Q:when do i change my front wheel bearings on my f250 ford truck it's a 01.?
easy check. jack up the truck. make sure tire is off the ground but still have lugs tight. if you can wobble the wheel then they need replaced.
Q:Do I need new skate wheel bearings?
buying new bearings will be the best option. Giving it some oil would be a temporary fix, but later on you will find it does not help anymore. Get some new ones and you will be gliding ..
