Q: I recently purchased a portable generator that is 7 hp and 3050 continuous watts, i tried to calculate the efficiency as follows:743 watts 1 hp7 X 743 5201 watts, (so at 100 percent efficiency, 5201 watts is possible to produce from a 7 hp generator.)the unit produces 3050 watts, so the 5201 watts (possible watts)/3050(actually produced watts) (0.5864) or approximately 59% efficiency, this does not seem right, it should be about half that.What am i doing wrong?: You are calculating only the shaft horsepower to electric power output efficiency. That is separate and different from the internal combustion engine efficiency. Calculate that by comparing the fuel used and its heat content and its ability to do work versus the shaft horsepower.

Q: I heard about the reactor and could someone tell me the story and what could happen thx.: The earthquake made the Nuclear power plants shut down automatically, which shut off everything. So the reactor couldn't cool it self with water. Because of this, it overheated, the power plant exploded, causing radiation to leek out. I tried to explain this as best as I could. You should read a news article about it, because I just wrote down what I heard. Which might not be 100%

Q: I need to run a fridge on a small power generator that don't have enough staring power to run it , would adding a huge industrial capacitor make it possible ?: The old style, pre- electronic wash machines used that same principle. They had a relatively small motor and used one or two huge capacitor's to get the motor going. Those capacitor's save up the maximum amplitude on the voltage sine wave (120V) and bleed out the power when the amplitude reverses each 1/60 th of a second. You might luck out, but I'm not sure if the AC compressor motor is an induction motor like the wash machine motors are so check out how to wire the capacitor in the circuit first and if it works with a compressor motor. It should, come to think of it, a lot of compressor's have capacitor starts s I can't see why a refrigerator compressor would be much different. You did say the running wattage of the generator is enough to keep the fridge going.right?

Q: Hi. I'm thinking about getting a Kubota Diesel Generator. I have read in many places that the Kubota Diesel engine is the gold standard of Diesel engines. So I'm not worried about that. What i need to know is this, is the generator as a whole dependable? Will over loading it for a few short seconds when the AC compressor kicks in burn it out or shorten its life?Any other insight would be appreciated.Thanks for your answers: Kubota diesel plants are being used more and more in industry, replacing some of the old standbys like Kohler, Perkins and even Caterpillar in lighter applications. I don't think you will regret buying a Kubota.

Q: For over a year, about once a month I start this Jeep and run it about 10 minutes. Zero problems until yesterday. It has fresh gasoline just added, cranks over fine, has spark (I have a spark tester) but will not 'pop' over. Upon closer inspection I see it has at least 6 Bosch type relays under the hood and know if one sticks something will not turn on. Any idea's where to start troubleshooting?(I am a retired US Navy diesel generator mechanic).: spray some ether in the intake and see if it fires, if so follow the fuel system until you find the issue. Make sure the fuel pump is running, and make sure you are getting fuel to the engine. A bad fuel pump relay or plugged fuel filter could cause this. Also check your air filter, in one case i saw a vehicle where someone had checked their oil then left the rag under the hood, well the engine creates a vacuum when its turning over and running, well it pulled the rag into the air box and plugged the filter.

Torque is a measure of the turning force on an object such as a bolt or a flywheel. For example, pushing or pulling the handle of a wrench connected to a nut or bolt produces a torque (turning force) that loosens or tightens the nut or bolt. Also the higher the RPM the hard the generator has to work to get to 400hp so your 13L at 3600 RPM would produce around 750 Hp

Q: I want to build a deisel generator that electrolizes water to make oxygen and hydrogen to increase fuel efficiency. Then I want to make an algae bioreactor and extract the fuel from the algae to power my diesel generator. What is the smallest engine that can support this? Do I need fuel injection or can the oxyhydrogen come in through the air intake? As I understand with oxyhydrogen added you can acquire a 100% fuel efficiency.: micro diesel engine 0.098cc
