Q: How does a throttle actuator/control for a generator know to increase decrease throttle based on electrical current demand?I’m thinking of building a DC generator using a diesel engine and a PMAC motor but am confused as to how I will vary the engine speed automatically to meet the varying current demand. I'm assuming by trip you mean shut down/off Plenty of reasons: 1) overheat, most common cause, could be lost water pump or water supply or cooling lines plugged 2) electrical, although diesel does not use sparkplugs there are electrical components. There are glow plugs that get the whole process started when cold, there is a starter motor that gets it all going and there is some method to keep the fuel warm enough to flow correctly 3) Starve for fuel, either fuel ran out, to low temp so its sludge 4) Loss of oil pressure that is used for lubrication 5) Ouput limits, there will be an overcurrent/overvoltage system regulating the output of he generator and if it gets really out of wack then it will kill the whole thing to prevent damage to everything That's all I can think of right now

Depends on the use of the generator. Power and current are related. Divide the rated power of the generator( I assume is diesel driven) by the voltage of the area where you operate (Europe is 240) so 1000000 VA: 2404,166 ampere in the most favourable conditions (Power factor 1) usually the current value is multiplied by .7(Minimum Power Factor acceptable) which will give you a maximum continuous current of circa 3500 ampere. If you are using the generator for emergency you require an automatic starting system and a priority circuit together the standard protection panel which include: 1 Over and Under voltage protection 2 Over and Under frequency protection 3 Phase sequence 4 Overload. Most of these panels have other functions as well. If you require more information than what I have written, I suggest you look at some of the leaflets provided by manufactures

The engine can run indefinitely without needing to stop for a rest provided it is properly maintained and cooled. You should change the oil and filters after every 200 hours operating time. Properly maintained you should expect at least 25-30 years operating time from the engine. Neglected and it could need replacing in less than 10. Not sure what 161 gsm/hp-hr means. Unlikely to be grams, but gallons per horsepower hour would be extremely high. Need to look further into it

Your solution may be more simple than you think. (a) An electrical machine will not fail at high altitude. The only concern you need to have is sufficient cooling of the machine. At high altitude, the air density is less, but the temperature is cool in addition. But then 10kW is not much at all to be concerned with heating. (b) Get an assembly done at a workshop so that you can run a belt off your truck axle to your generator shaft. (c) Drive the generator (make sure you have anchored it safely to the ground) from the axle of the truck (whose driven wheels you have raised with a jack). Start your truck and power up your generator. (c) 10kW is less than 14HP. This means your truck (200HP?) will not even have to be driven hard to generate the torque to give you full power for your generator. Do a search for methane (CH4) generation. There are many cattle farms that capture the methane gas from animal waste to power generators on their farms. There's a big dairy in Pennsylvania that does this, but I don't remember the name of the farm. I know methane isn't H2, but it's easier than pure hydrogen.
