- i would try using 1/2 cap tide laundry soap in your cleaner. i have white carpet and live on a red clay dirt road since i have switched to tide instead of the carpet cleaner solution i have whiter brighter carpet with no stains. works very well. in regards to shampooing too much as long as its good and dry in between cleanings you should be ok. i clean mine about 3 times per month.

- Q: My grandmother just purchased a new rug to replace her old carpet. It moves very easily so it was recommended that she buy rug padding and attach it to the floor under the rug. She's worried that it will need to be stapled to the floor and in the event that the rug needs to be lifted/moved in a hurry she wont be able to move the padding, and it could get damaged.So my question, more specificially: Is there another way to apply the padding under the rug without permanently securing it (ie: staples)? - You have 2 options: You can buy either a special non-slip mat/material or a double sided carpet tape. Both will prevent a rug from slipping and can be found at most hardware / building supply or most anywhere that sells rugs and carpeting [Bed, Bath Beyond, etc.] The mat material is rubber-like and grips the flooring of it's own accord [it's the same stuff as the rubber type shelf liner material] Padding is used beneath wall to wall carpeting.

- Carpet is pretty cheap....$2-$3 per square foot installed but look for a carpet cleaner who is going is use only Hot Water! You need a restorative process. Make sure the carpet cleaner doesn't use soaps or surfactants - they cause the carpet to rapidly resoil...... Get it clean and get the stains out....if you elect to replace go to Loews or .Home Depot ...they have a carpet that uses a new technology called Puraesque.....it can be done, just make sure you get pros instead of a bunch of nerdowells!
