Q:I just watched the Chernobyl Diaries and it made me really interested with the actual disaster and the impact of it. I never really knew anything about it up until watching this movie and it just fascinates me. What happened that the nuclear plant exploded? Did people did from it? What is Chernobyl like today? Just some interesting facts about the whole thing would be great!
On April 26, 1986, the operating crew planned to test whether the Reactor No. 4 turbines could produce enough energy to keep the coolant pumps running until the emergency diesel generator was activated in case of an external power loss. During the test, power surged unexpectedly, causing an explosion and driving temperatures in the reactor to more than 2,000 degrees Celsius—melting the fuel rods, igniting the reactor’s graphite covering, and releasing a cloud of radiation into the atmosphere. The precise causes of the accident are still uncertain, but it is generally believed that the series of incidents that led to the explosion, fire and nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl was caused by a combination of reactor design flaws and operator error.
Q:I think i'm looking for 5000 watts which should cover my fridges and a fan and light, maybe the TV too. I also think I want 120/220v, and one that uses unleaded. What about horsepower and rated output? Are those important? What's the difference between say a Cummins Onan 6500 at Costco (currently $250 off) and a $399 generator of the same wattage on sale at Home Depot for example?
Be sure to look for Continuous Watt Output. Generators are rated and advertised on their initial out put, which is more than they will produce when running steady. You will have to read the paper work that tells what the continuous wattage output is. So a generator advertised as 5,000 watts will only produce around 4,000 watts continuous. You can not run as many appliances with only 4,000 watts. The second thing you want is a fuel savings setting so the gas motor will increase or decrease RPM's as the electric demand on the generator increases or decreases. It saves a lot of wear and tear as well as fuel when the motor doesn't run at max. RPM's when not needed. As far as brands, I don't think it makes much difference. I had an Onan and had to have it repaired occasionally. Currently I have a Generac and haven't done anything but change the oil and put gas in it for 4 yrs.
Q:i have 350kw old diesel generator and want to calculate the exact consumtionption at various loads.
If okorder
Q:I am investigating CoGen engine applications. I am looking for about 100-150kWh power output plus heat (water). Do you know of any application that uses solar thermal energy to power the engine? Also, it seems most CoGen engines use natural gas or other gases, but gas would not be viable for my application. Diesel would most likely be the second best option. Do you know of any diesel coGen applications? Please list vendors or prices.Thank you
You can use a diesel generator set to generate power and the exhaust to heat or boil water. You could also use an air craft derivative gas turbine converted to diesel or jet fuel and make steam or hot water with the exhaust.
Q:Hi GuysOkay i have been given the task of fitting a 240v generator to an RV in to one of it's closet spaces. It needs to power one 240v socket, charge the RV battery (standard battery on trickle charge) and power the shower which doesn't have a boiler as such it heats the water on a 'as and when' basis. Low wattage lighting also two 40W lightsThere is plenty of space. so I thought how about try and fit a generator than runs on renewable energy.I just need to know what direction I should be looking in. HydrogenSolar (Doubt it)Bio-FuelAnything else? Also, is it best to convert an existing design of generator, buy a new one or build one from scratch to fit?Any help would be truly awesomePeace
You need the power level, and I suspect it is very high. The shower is the problem, as it will use several thousands of watts only for a few minutes, then zero power for the rest of the time. Everything else is a hundred watts or so. If you could switch to a tank hot water storage system, where you can heat the water slowly, with perhaps 500 watts over hours of time, so it is ready for those showers. Perhaps even less. Hydrogen is not practical, as it is not readily available, neither is bio-fuel. Your best bet is solar, as you have plenty of space on the roof for the panels. You will need a charge controller, a few sealed deep-discharge 12 volt batteries, and an inverter. The batteries can store up power for the times you need it. The number of batteries will be determined the needed power levels. Again, the shower predominates. Get readings of watts used and time lengths, so you can calculate the number of batteries. .
Q:Every time i go to the pawn shop i always end up craping my pants. I crap em so hard that i got to leave to change and come right backnext time i best bring a diaper because the pawn shop always does it to me. Everything is pretty much stolen and new so i get 50% off pawn price because they know me for years. The last time i craped my pants was when i got this really nice 2000$ diesel generator for 400$ and BAM!Didn't even feel it coming, reached in my pocket to count my cash and the next thing i knew was i got a landslide running down my leg filling up my work boot. I bought it there and then anyways with crap on my leg because it was too good a deal to let some other guy steal it, that's my job!I do it at home on the computer sometimes when i'm looking at tools on harborfreight. It never happens with anything else, why only tools?
It's your butt having an orgasm! Soo cool huh?
Q:I understand it as far as the diesel engine driving the generator- or is it an alternator?- to power the motors which turn the wheels. But does each wheel have its own motor, or is it one motor per axle?
Diesel-electric locomotives most commonly use one traction motor per axle, with the motor shaft parallel to and beside the wheel axle and with a simple pair of gears connecting the two. Early diesel-electric locomotives used a DC generator that directly fed DC traction motors, with the generator often doubling as a starter motor. By the 1970s, locomotives commonly used alternators (which were easier to maintain) that generated AC current, which was rectified back to DC to power the same DC traction motors as before. The EMD GP38 was notably produced with both a generator and an alternator, with the alternator-powered version called the GP38AC. AC traction motors became commonplace in the early to mid 1990s - but they do not use the electricity produced by the alternator directly as it is not of the correct frequency. The AC power from the alternator is first rectified to DC, then (using inverters) back to AC current of the correct frequency for the traction motors. GE locomotives use one inverter per traction motor, while all but the most recent EMD locomotives used one inverter per truck. The traction motors are readily visible on six-axle units such as recent EMD SD series locomotives or GE Dash-9 and AC units. These locomotives all have traction motors that face inwards, so that they all face the same direction on each truck. On the innermost axle they extend considerably beyond rim of the wheels toward the fuel tank, visible in this photo I took of an EMD SD40-2: trainiax /photos/2013/2013-05- To account for the different current and resistance characteristics of the electric motors at low and high speed, locomotives have one or several transitions between wiring the motors in series or in parallel, or in a combination of both.
Q:I know that there is a possibility of explosion, but other than that what makes it such a dangerous job? how else to people get hurt in this line of work? I've always wanted to know this, but I never had anyone to ask!
poor drilling fluids is the main cause of drilling accident, solids control equipment is designed to purify drilling fluids
Q:I have 1500 kw load,i want install on Diesel Generator. What should be rating?
If its a pure resistive load consider the efficiency of the alternator, de-rating factors to ambient conditions etc. etc. After considering all of the above you need a 1650KVA (with 10% safety factor
Q:I want to know if i can get a 40kvh generator (witch is usually ran by 4 cylinder diesel engine) to run with a water wheel and some poulies??
Water wheels generally turn rather slowly or would fly apart and pulleys would likely be needed (large on water wheel and small at generator shaft). The generator may function well only within a specified range of RPM. Try to determine the rated speed of the generator (or determine the rated RPM of the diesel engine above idle(?) and any gearing or pulley ratios to the generator. That may indicate in advance how practical your match will be. Perhaps the generator can slowly charge a battery (with a given water supply and water wheel) but may not support full load as on the diesel engine. Work out an estimate on paper (including battery and voltage regulator?) before turning actual nuts and bolts.
