Q:the heater/ac fan quit working on my 1992 dodge dynasty. The fan motor is good, so what might be another problem?
Fuse Switch Blower resistor.
Q:Why do AC supplied electric tools commonly have a brushed motor instead of an induction motor?
The brushed motor is called series motor. All winding are connected in series. This connection has a great advantage: When the load, or the resistance on, say the drill bit, becomes larger when it hits something hard. The drill slows down because of the greater resistance. But this makes the current larger and so do the torque of the drill. This larger torque overcomes the resistance and it keeps drilling. Therefore it is very commonly used on drills and other power tools. It has other advantage is light-weight. Also note that this kind of motor works well on DC. The direction of rotation can be reversed by reversing the current to the armature (The rotor), ie at the brushes. I added a switch on my drill so that it can spin in reverse direction by a flick on the switch. The I used it as a electric screwdriver after I added a dimmer on the power cord. For induction motors, they are heavier and do not have the good torque characteristic.
Q:our ac motor run @ 72 hertz with frequency converter
Yes generally, but it will revolve faster, and you will not want to underhorse it in this application. Also, is it 3 phase or single phase? I would monitor the current under the maximum applied load. Variable frequency drives (VFD's) (Freq. drives) vary the Hertz to control speed.
Q:Whenever I have my AC on in my apartment, the furnace (which also has the fan for all the ventilation) makes a loud clanking noise. I reported it to the office and the guy said he thought the blower motor was out of sync. I didn't have time to ask him how to fix it. Anyone know how you would re-sync it?
You might get in trouble but shut off the power at the breaker, unwire the motor and label the wires, look for two nuts on the top of the squirrel cage, remove them and put them aside,at this point the squirrel cage will slide out on the tracks.Set it on the ground and spin the wheel around.see if it is hitting the side of the housing, see if the fins are bent(which if they are the wheel will have to be replaced),or if the wheel is loose on the shaft and tighten the set screw as needed. Aside from that the bearings are probably bad in the motor and it will have to be replaced.
Q:Hey, i was wondering if a fan motor by modifying it could be converted into a generator. do you think its possible and if so how? useful links will also be appreciated
Fan motors are shaded pole, squirrel-cage induction motors. You'd have to cut away the shading rings (otherwise they will sap much of the energy you're generating) and replace the armature with a suitably-shaped permanent magnet. And that's before you even consider the resistance of the windings, which probably will be too high for you to get any useful voltage out of it. Generators are fully-commercialised. You *cannot* make one for less money than you can buy one for. It is really that simple.
Q:Causes of insulation breakdown in AC motor voltage withstand test
Not in accordance with the provisions of pressure, or pressure, the motor damp, without drying and so on.
Q:hey people, i hav a 230v ac motor taken out from a mixer(a common household kitchen mixer). the rmp of that motor is very high, so i want to wire a rheostat so that i can control its speed(rmp). I tried using a common ceiling FAN REGULATOR (i think its also a rheostat) thinking that it can hold the voltage and current (since fan runs in 230 v ). The rheostat has 1 to 5 division, in case of celling fan, level 1 makes the fan to rotate at minimum speed and level 5 lets full current to flow, hence the fan rotates at maximum speed. But when i wire the rheostat(serial connection) to my ac motor only level 5(full voltage) could power it, rest lower levels didnt power it. Hence i couldnt control the motors speed. So i need help with it. I DONT KNOW THE VOLTAGE OF MY MOTOR(if it has).CAN I USE SOME OTHER METHODS ?CANT I USED CAPACITORS OR RESISTORS WITH rheostat TO MAKE IT WORK?
A motor taken out of a kitchen mixer is almost certainly a universal motor. A universal motor should work well with a rheostat, but you probably need a lower resistance value than would be used with a ceiling fan motor. The fan regulator that you have may be an electronic voltage regulator rather than a rheostat.
Q:I was just wondering what the 3 wire connected to. is there anyway to run that motor without the control system (or the circut board that i cannot remember the name of at the moment) that attaches to the battery.thanks, if you have any diagrams that would get you a best answer!!thanks again
These motors will not work without the control board. The motor is actually a 3 phase AC motor, the control board provides the battery conversion to 3 phase, and varies the supply frequency for speed control. So each wire is connected to a separate winding in the motor. I don't know whether the windings are connected in a star or delta configuration, though. Maybe either might be used. There are brushless DC motors about, but generally only low power ones. They only have 2 wires. The necessary switching functions usually done by carbon or metal brushes, are done by internal electronics instead. They are common in motors such as computer fans.
Q:for example: 4-poles or 6-poles: which is difference i can see inside motor?
yes if you can count the number of coils and interpret the winding configuration a motor rewinder at a repair shop can do this easily put it on a known frequency and measure the RPM - easier
Q:3phae 440v ac motor, having star and delta connections
Contact the manufacture of the motor to see if possible and how to.
