Q:hi we bought a new black wool rug last week and since then my life has been taken over by little black hairs! they are all over the laminate floor, the furniture and our clothes. i have tried sweeping the rug but although i get quite a lot of hairs out of it, they just keep coming! my friend got a wool rug a year ago and although it has settled a bit she still has a similar problem. is there anything i can do to speed up the excess fluff loss or am i going to spend the rest of my time with a dustpan and brush in my hands?
New okorder / Hope it helps.=)
Q:We have white carpet and I want to know some of your experiences of what has worked the best. We have a bissel carpet cleaner at home and I would like to use that but the bissel cleaners don't work very well from what I've found.
I have tried this cleaner before and it worked pretty well mistralie .uk/catalogue/product/127/Low-Foam-Carpet-and-Uphostery-cleaner---LFS100--Le
Q:I recently moved house and my real fix fur rug isn't large enough to cover the floor in my room, so my question if, if I go and kill some foxes tonight, how do I skin them and how do I attach the skins to the rug without making it obvious where i have sewn them on?Also, what shall I do with the remains, is fox edible?
Yes fox is edible... but save the brain. Tanning a hide is a skill that requires practice. I can tell you how but I suggest practicing on something you don't plan to have every guest at your house have a look at. Also some sewing skill would be needed to mend the two rugs together, and foxes aren't large animals so more than one will almost definitely be needed. To tan a hide: Skin the animal at the leg and stretch the skin out very taunt. You will need a tool for scraping ( something sharp but rounded enough not to tear the hide). While the hide is stretched, scrap of the epidermis of the skin with your tool (on the side without fur obviously). Its important to keep the hide wet during this process. Keep a bucket of water nearby to wet it down with. After the hide dries from anywhere from a day or a week (still stretched) untie it and cut it to the size you need it. Now rinse it in a mixture of a half - a whole gallon of water and the foxes own brains (yes, the brains). Rinse, wring it out, rinse again. Over and over and over until your tired. Next stretch the skin out some. Give it a tug with a partner to loosen it up. Then you have to smoke the skin with a dark smoke (most likely from old rotten wood). This will cause the white skin to tan (hence, tanning the hide). Tan the fir side as well but no where near as much as the inside of the skin. Once its a golden brown you can sew it onto your first rug. Whew lol. This is just the general jist of tanning a hide. There are many other methods that I don't know about. I learned how from Naked into the wilderness: Primitive Wilderness Living Survival Skills
Q:The difference between silk and wool carpets
Actually 2 Concept The making types of carpet refers to the cashmere, usually its height is more than 1 cm (5-10 mm). Due to the cashmere, the density is low. The appearance of cashmere feels thick, soft to step on it, like stepping on the grass. The disadvantage is that there isn't pattern, simple and cheap. The silk wool refers to raw materials, silk plus wool quality, production species than hair. Using hair as silk hair materials is rare. Usually, wool is chemical?fiber, belonging to low-end goods. The thickness of manual or mechanism is thin, complex and beautiful patterns. Some simple distinction.
Q:we moved into a new house...the carpet is really very very messy..my apartment guys refused to change the carpet....looks like it has not been cleaned for months...they are number of stains on the carpet(very old ones).....i have new bisell carpet cleaner...but it is of no use.....i hate to see my carpet like this...is it possible to make it look like a new one....plzzzzz help
If it is white you could try to bleach it, or if it's colored you could try to use a bleach for colors. If all else fails you could always cover it with an area rug (a really big one or several).
Q:I got a rug burn on my toe Monday and not quite sure how to treat it. When I looked up how to treat rug burns, every site said that they were like 1st degree burns or a sunburn and should be pretty much treated the same way. However mine is open and for the first few days, was leaking pus and a clear liquid. It hasn't healed up yet and I have been treating it as a cut. It fizzes when peroxide is applied but today didn't do it as much (and hurts much less). Am I doing the right thing? Also is there a cool trick to get a band aid to stay on my toe? The burn is at the joint that is the foot equivalent of a knuckle.
Use Aloe Vera gel. It will help it to heal faster. Keep it around, it's great stuff. Or you can buy an Aloe plant and cut a leaf and rub the gel on.
Q:I have a large sisal rug that has been spilled on cat-vomited on, and who knows what else. Trying to spot-clean the stains hasn't been productive. What should I do?
Hey,i happen to have a sisal rug myself!! Firstly, it depends on the kind of sisal rug you have. There are two types: synthetic fiber, which may contain nylon or wool-blend materials; and natural fiber, made of plant products such as sea grass, paper, or coconut fibers. To safely clean synthetic-fiber sisals, follow the manufacturer's directions, which may recommend hot-water extraction or a dry-cleaning method. Manufacturers of natural-fiber sisals suggest only a dry-cleaning method. Do not steam-clean or wet-shampoo; liquids or excessive dampness may cause these rugs to shrink or pucker. For spot-cleaning a stain, lightly mist the area with the manufacturer's recommended cleaning solution (do not pour or heavily apply any cleanser directly onto the rug). Then blot the damp area with a white towel and continue blotting until the stain is removed. A fabric protectant may be applied to both types of sisal rugs during the manufacturing process or by the consumer. But regular wear and tear and cleaning can decrease its effectiveness; it may need to be reapplied.=] thx,
Q:we had new carpet put in about four months ago .the carpet was suppose to have been scotch guard .the carpet gets dirt very fast .is there anyway or any place to send a piece for testing to make sure it was the right carpet
On the receipt it should state the carpet brand. Depending on the carpet, some carpets come with a stain free warranty of so many years (5-7 years). If your carpet was less than ?7.00 sqm, the possibility is that it has no stain free warranty. Ask your retailer about the carpet you bought, say your not happy with how dirty it has got in so little time. Ask them about the warranty. If the carpet has worn too fast, whether you have a warranty or not you can request a check. Process for replacement of faulty carpet; 1) inform the retailer of your carpets fault 2) The retailer will organise a visit by themselves or the manufacturer representative 3) If after a check your carpet is deemed faulty you will be given a form to fill in, put the fault, and your name e.t.c. the retailer or manufacturer representative will fill in the technical details, such as the position of the fault e.t.c. 4)Depending on the extent of the fault, but the representative will normally diagnose whether or not the fault will receive a automatic replacement or whether more testing will be required. 3) Wait up to 3 weeks to receive your replacement carpet; no money will be required from you, the manufacturer will pay for the replacement and fitting.
Q:My carpet had high traffic so I bought a large bottle of carpet spray from the grocery store. I sprayed and worked the solution in with a sponge, I cleaned a 5X7 area = 35sq ftSome parts of the carpet are still kind of damp when walking on them, it has been 20 hours.I have my windows open and I live in Colorado, very dry...humidity meter in my house says 26 right now. Even with my windows open for the past 20 hours the carpet still isn't completely dry.I am concerned about mold because I lived in a house once where we had mold problems and I don;t want them again! I read Mold can grow very fast...Since I used carpet cleaner and didn't just pour water on my carpets will the carpet cleaner cause mold the same way water will? Thanks!
All carpets are magnets for dust, dirt, mold and mildew, especially the carpet backing and pad. Humidity (moisture) is not the only culprit for carpet mold. Temperature and cleanliness are equally important, too. Maintaining low temperatures where carpets reside is key. Four years ago, I removed all carpeting in my home, and replaced with tile and wood flooring. And that has made all the difference! Less dust allergies! My family sleeps better at night. For those who insist on carpeting, I recommend vacuuming weekly, and hiring a professional carpet cleaner with truck-mounted unit, once a year. And not the portable type that can be rented at grocery stores. Two important benefits of the truck-mount: One, the water is heated to 190+ degrees Farhenheit. Secondly, a powerful suction (powered by the engine). Much more powerful than any household vacuum.
Q:We moved into a new home, and until we change the carpet out, is there a temporary fix you can use to hide unsightly bleach stains on carpeting?
My neighbor did that. She bought a box of 94 Crayola crayons and experiment with them until she found a color that matched. She then colored in the spot on the carpet. You have to redo every now and then but it worked. Next time you spill something on the carpet, try using table salt. Just pour it on, let it absorb the wet spot and most of the color will come up. Do not wipe it up just vacuum it up, while it's wet. If the stain is still there do it again. I had to do mine about 3 times but it is hardly noticeable now. My carpet is light tan and the spot was berry red. The spot now is a very, very, pale pink and gets lighter every time I clean it. There is also a cleaner call Krud be gone and Goo gone that may work.
