Q: i have a peach carpet and ivory and gold suite
Whay you have mentioned is fairly neutral, if your window treatments are dark perhaps you could match them to unify the room or if they are pale then you can either blend with a pale ivory or cream or just your favourite colour to give a bit of life. A deep blue or burgundy.
Q: I currently operate a rug store that sells almost all persian rugs in Santa Rosa California (in the San Fransisco bay area). Operation is rather stable but I have two issues.1. I sell high quality rugs and hence the prices are more expensive reflecting the quality. However, many customers can find designs similar to mine on the internet at 1/3 to 1/4 of the price. (internet is 600, mine are 3000). If you put the rugs side by side you can DEFINATELY tell the drastic difference in quality. How should I cope with this?2. I am hoping to think of an idea used to promote the sale of these rugs. Any sort of promotion would be great just to get people to start buying.I have money to spend on ideas. Thanks, All help is appreciated. Best Answer will be chosen promptly.
You sell such a luxury item that your client base is much smaller. You have to infiltrate the market by showing that you have great taste and an eye for quality. Get a couple of high profile (rich, important, and powerful) clients and then word of mouth should help you immensely. It is all public relations. Hire a specialist if you must. Buy one of the cheaper rugs and have it on display (don't be real in your face with it-put it in a corner so that you can direct people to it if you need to make the point-keep the receipt on display and be genuine. Personally, I bought a handmade rug from Iran (I can immediately tell that it is better quality than whatever they sell at retail stores for twice the price (I bought it for $300 with shipping on OKorder). It is a low psi (120) with a thicker wool and some low pile, but you must remember that most people intend to have furniture, children, and feet on their rugs. I don't mind the lower quality because I don't feel the pressure of keeping it pristine when I bought it for function (then beauty). If you wanted to expand your client base you could open a seperate place that dealt with the more affordable and function driven rugs that would cost under $1000, but still be better quality than synthetic machine woven options. Good luck in your pursuits and I hope that I have been helpful! Just provide a service that fills an honest NEED.
Q: How do you uncurl an edge of an oriental rug?
Roll the corner under very tightly to bend it a bit, then lay something heavy (a stack of books) on it for a day. This should work, but if not, try getting some adhesive made to hold rugs in place. You can get it for carpeted floors with a rug, or non-stick items to hold the rug on hardwood or vinyl floors as well.
Q: we live in a rented apartment, we have carpet installed but we would prefer hard wood so much better. is there a way, inexpensive much preferred, to have hard wood over the carpet without damaging the carpet? hope to hear some interesting suggestions, thanks!!
The tile floor would be ruined, and the value of the house lessened, but it can be done. A better idea, if the tile is nice is to buy large area rugs which have no slip padding on the back. It will be easier to keep the room clean also, around the walls, etc. Wall to wall carpeting really picks up a lot of awful stuff, look how much dirt you sweep up each day? A tile floor is healthier than wall to wall. Get some better shoes for indoors, although I have marble and tile and love the feel on my feet, which no longer hurt as they used to.? Don't know what that means for you, though, Good Luck
Q: what's an estimation on installing cheap carpet and padding in a 15x18 room? thanks!
Well it really depends on where you live and who there is to install it. You can usually count on atelast $50-$150 an hour for installation. Some come as a package. Carpet usually can run anywhere from $1.99 on sale upwards to $15.00 a sq ft.
Q: Most of the powder carpet freshners have so much perfume in them they trigger a migraine and I can't use them. Not to mention they are pretty pricey for what you actually get. Is plain ole' Arm Hammer baking soda a good alternative? Any other suggestions for freshing carpet?
Baking soda works well as a carpet freshener and you really want to kill odors in the carpet (pets, smoke, etc) just sprinkle with some dry coffee grounds and then vacuum after 20 minutes or so. Another good way to freshen carpets without damage is 1 capful of liquid fabric softener to 3 cups water in a spray bottle. Vacuum first and then mist carpet to freshen!
Q: I have new carpet in my apartment. When I try to vacuum, it clogs my vacuum. Should I get a better vacuum or not vacuum at all?
Your new carpet is doing a natural thing .. It s called pilling and fuzzing. Very common in staple type carpet. Most carpets are staple products. It will stop shortly unless there a defect in the carpet ( rare but it happens) Defiantly keep vacuuming. It s the best thing for carpets. Manufactures actually say to vacuum every day( YEAH LIKE THATS GOING TO HAPPEN LOL) GL
Q: What covers the carpet?
Buy a carpet, ha ha, two years, you can take it again. Then use!
Q: how do I crochet an oval rug for my bathroom?
I okorder / ... Here they have instructions for crocheting a basic oval shape. They give instructions for making a crocheted oval rug from fabric strips. You could always use the same basic method and crochet 3 strands of cotton yarn together instead of using fabric strips if you wanted to. There are also crochet pattern leaflets that have patterns for crochet rugs. You might do a search on line at Annie's Attic or Leisure Arts and check out the pattern leaflets they have for sale. Or just do a search on OKorder for crochet rug patterns and see what you come up with. I think you'll be surprised with what is out there... Good luck on finding a pattern you can use... Crochet Hugs, Granny Barb
Q: Normal household carpet. NOT industrial carpet. Per square foot.
The average price for carpet will depend on a few things. The type of yarn, the amount of yarn and type of store you buy it from. Unless you are comparing apples to apples it is not possible to get a fair average price. I have a carpet business and customers ask a question like this all the time. So this is what I tell them. My company has a 25 ounce carpet with a FHA padding for $6.99 per square yard. Just over 77 cents a square foot. This carpet is not industrial and is better then rental carpeting. And the price goes up from this point. You must tell the store you are call the exact type of carpet you want to get comparison prices, that way you are apples to apples, not whatever store one gives you compared to store two. Installation cost run around 30 cents per square foot in my area (depending on size of job, type of carpet, stairs etc.)
