- Is this exactly how the problem is worded. or are you missing some details or making a typo (like the area of 2 rugs being 240 and not 24) ? what do you mean by combined. I assume, if you have 3 rugs with areas(R1, R2, R3) then I wonder if the combined area is R1+R2+R3 = 200 or R1R2R3=200 (since R1+R2 =24). when you say the area covered by exactly two rugs is 24 does this mean that the RUGs are separated. Do you want to know the area of the RUGs overlapped or separated.

- Q: My sister-in-law gave us a lovely rug as a house warming gift 10 years ago. I prefered using the old wash and rinse method of cleaning it. It wasn't anything very expensive but it was, is, lovely.I lifted it to wash and store away for the summer but was saddened to see a thick layer of yellow dust like stuff exactly where the rug was laying. It seems the bottom layer of the rug has aged and is crumbling away into dust.Is there anything I can do to save it?
- I expect you could get an upholsterer to re-line the back with something tough...call a few and ask.
- Q: I have these holes in my carpet in multiple places (dog). To replace it, I was going to use the carpet in the closet. How do I do that (step by step instructions)? Where can I find carpet remenants?
- Take a utility knife and cut out a piece of carpet large enough to cover the hole from the closet. Be careful not to cut out the padding underneath unless you need it where the doggie made the holes. Place the carpet plug over the hole making certain it meets the remaining carpet. You can secure the plug using a hot glue gun or running double sided carpet tape around the edges. Now use your fingernails to blend the fibers on the plug into the fibers of the surrounding carpet. You can find carpet remnants at almost any carpet store, just ask. Also for larger remnants they sell end rolls at the Home Depot and Lowes.

- I've seen them advertised in the UK but off hand can't remember where - Rideway? Derby House? IIRC they are expensive. You could probably use three equivalent rugs and pay less for them but they wouldn't match prettily. Depends whether you want economy or looks. On the basis that two or three thin layers are warmer than one thick one they should be a good idea. However, I don't have direct experience of this 3 in 1 rug. I've been at it for long enough to prefer economy as long as the performance is satisfactory. Along with others at the yard I use a Morrison's First Home duvet as an under layer indoors when it's very cold.
- Q: Need to find the best carpeting that will not show quot;traffic patternsquot;. What material is best for this? Money is not a big concern.
- That would be Berber carpeting. It's not a plush comfortable carpet to walk barefoot on, but it's stiff and dense which makes it wear very well.
- Q: Does the carpet make them sound better? Or is it to protect the cabinet? Or is it just because it looks good?
- Not all of them are carpeted. In fact, I don't think I've seen any carpeted ones in many years. Old Cerwin Vegas, had carpeting as I recall. Anyway, it's just cosmetic. The carpeting doesn't show road wear as much as the Tolex vinyl coverings.
