- Sounds like you have asked a lot of good questions. Padding under carpet is even more important than the carpet itself. Whether you are buying the lower, middle or top end carpet, you should always buy the most expensive padding. It will make all the difference in the feel of the carpet as well as how it wears. And it is not that expensive. Hardwoods these days should be the pre-done floors that Bruce and all hardwood companies have been doing for years. Because they are cut and polyurethaned in house they are stronger and more durable than floors that are raw cut, laid, and only a couple of coats of poly done. When your contractor lays hardwood floors, they also lay the wood moldings.

- Hardwood floors. I had a choice, hardwood floors or carpeting. Made the wrong choice and picked wall to wall carpeting. Too much work for me. Don't like to vacuuming, it's a pain in my butt. When my cat gets sick it's always on the carpeting even though tile is right there. I think she does this on purpose. I'm convinced she was out to get me. I finally said, ENOUGH! and had to admit once again I made the wrong choice. Ripped it all up and put down laminate. I love it. It's strong, doesn't scratch, easy to clean, especially with cat around. Give me a soft dust mop any day. Easy clean all the way around. Don't have real wood floors. Chose laminate because it's stronger and doesn't need to be sanded and redone. My opinion, my opinion only.

- Unfortunately Gorilla Glue is a polymer and bonds with nylon carpet fibers. You'll have to cut out a patch of the carpet and replace it. Good luck finding a piece to match unless you take a piece from a closet. If you do that cut the damaged piece out first and lay ti over the replacement piece and CAREFULLY cut an identical patch. Tape in and glue the patch with carpet tape and adhesive. Make sure the pile and pattern match. Good luck.

- If you don't find the stain right away, mix a diluted solution of vinegar, soap and water. Dampen a cloth with this solution and press firmly against the stain for several moments. Blot dry with a a rinse cloth. You can also mix equal parts salt and baking soda, add several drops of white vinegar and enough water to make a paste. Check carpet for color fastness, then apply the paste to the stain and let it set. When it's dry, brush it away and the stain should go with it. For a particulary nasty stain, scrub it when you first apply the paste.
- Q: my son just spilled 18 litres of paint on his bedroom carpet - I have scooped up what I can but there is obviously a massive paint puddle on the carpet - it is emulsion (non-oil based) - and suggestions?
- Do you have a wet vac? I'm not sure what emulsion is but if it is latex (water based) To get all the paint out of the carpet you need to keep soaking it with water if latex and keep sopping it up. You need 2-3 buckets of water and keep doing this until you see almost no paint color in your dirty water. Suck up all the excess water with the wet vac and put a fan or 2 on it to dry. I would even recommend pulling up the carpet and vacuuming the pad if it is wall to wall. This will also help the air get at the pad and dry it faster. If the paint is dry you should just throw out the carpet.

- First use soda powder in oil, the light shoot into the powder soft carpet, after 1 hours, until the oil is absorbed, using a clean brush to gently brush powder.
