Q:so funny story haha. i was at softball practice last night at an indoor facility. The ground is made of an astroturf- carpet type material. the drill was to practice sliding on a piece of cardboard. i however slid a bit too early and skinned my thigh on the carpet/astroturf stuff. Now i have a giant burn thing about the size of my fist on my right thigh. It oozes constantly (which is extremely gross!) Last night i slept with it uncovered hoping it would dry up a bit, but it didn't. i taped a piece of medical gauze over it today for school, but it oozed right through! Also, when i went to take it off, the gauze was stuck right to it, and i had to yank it off hard, and it hurt soooo badd. i really don't want to have to do it again! Can someone please tell me how to make the pain go away (it burns!), make it dry up, and stop oozing? I've skinned myself before, but this is the worst one i've ever had.
Don't like he said it will get Moise ????????????????????????????
Q:My cat is constantly scratching my oriental rugs. They are extremely old and she's just always on them. Does anyone know if she can do any damage to them? If so, is there anything I can put on them to keep her off?
Heck yes she can damage them. If they are that old and valuable, either take them up, or put them into a room where she cannot get into.
Q:This old rug has been stored in a musty damp place. It's beautiful, and I want to try to clean it and keep it. When I started to vacuum it, I found the backing in places was turning to sand and the threads connected to it were separating. The suction was too much. So, before I can clean it, I need to treat the back somehow in order to keep the rug intact. Does anyone know how I can do that? Taking it to someone who can restore it is out of the question.
Then it's not a real oriental rug. A true oriental carpet will be something that could be turned over and the weave would be visible on the back side; it is not held together by a rubber backing. If your carpet had rubberized backing on it, this means it was a commercial carpet with an oriental design. Those backings are not meant to last forever, and they simply deteriorate with exposure to air and the elements. There is nothing you can do to restore it, to my knowledge. The rubberized backing has broken down, and that's irreversible - part and parcel of the product that you purchased. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Just this summer I had to toss two such carpets at church. One of them had backing that was dry and powdery; the other, much cheaper, had to be peeled off the hallway, and we had to spray with orange oil and go at the backing with a putty knife to remove the backing from the floor...a messy and nasty job. Be glad you never put that on the floor. You'd be cussing if you had to remove it.
Q:I recently moved house and my real fix fur rug isn't large enough to cover the floor in my room, so my question if, if I go and kill some foxes tonight, how do I skin them and how do I attach the skins to the rug without making it obvious where i have sewn them on?Also, what shall I do with the remains, is fox edible?
Yes fox is edible... but save the brain. Tanning a hide is a skill that requires practice. I can tell you how but I suggest practicing on something you don't plan to have every guest at your house have a look at. Also some sewing skill would be needed to mend the two rugs together, and foxes aren't large animals so more than one will almost definitely be needed. To tan a hide: Skin the animal at the leg and stretch the skin out very taunt. You will need a tool for scraping ( something sharp but rounded enough not to tear the hide). While the hide is stretched, scrap of the epidermis of the skin with your tool (on the side without fur obviously). Its important to keep the hide wet during this process. Keep a bucket of water nearby to wet it down with. After the hide dries from anywhere from a day or a week (still stretched) untie it and cut it to the size you need it. Now rinse it in a mixture of a half - a whole gallon of water and the foxes own brains (yes, the brains). Rinse, wring it out, rinse again. Over and over and over until your tired. Next stretch the skin out some. Give it a tug with a partner to loosen it up. Then you have to smoke the skin with a dark smoke (most likely from old rotten wood). This will cause the white skin to tan (hence, tanning the hide). Tan the fir side as well but no where near as much as the inside of the skin. Once its a golden brown you can sew it onto your first rug. Whew lol. This is just the general jist of tanning a hide. There are many other methods that I don't know about. I learned how from Naked into the wilderness: Primitive Wilderness Living Survival Skills
Q:I live with my husband and our toddler son in a decent sized three bedroom apartment, but I am having a little problem...our carpet is looking very sad. It is smushed down in higher traffic areas and I am not sure how to revive it. I vacuum regularly, and I also clean it monthly with my upright shampooer, but it isn't really helping. Any suggestions?
Rentals use inexpensive carpet and once it's matted down, it's on it's last leg. If you're shampooing and vacuuming regularly that's all you can do. Put a nice runner over the smushed areas. Spend the $150 on something nice you can take when you move.
Q:how to prevent the carpet paved outside from blowing up by the wind.
Has adhesive force,. You can fix it with a carpet liner.
Q:So, me and my family rent our house. But it has the worst carpet ever. So, i was wondering if its possible to get a huge rug that will cover my room, instead of re-carpeting? If so, where would i get a rug that size?
I have found some large rugs at Goodwill. In my state prices vary a lot, but the cheapest price can be gotten with a little haggling at Goodwill and my cost of this used bedroom rug cost me just $20. If Goodwill is not available where you live then try thrift stores or the Salvation Army Thrift Store for sales and or auctions. You could save lots.
Q:what's the difference between an emerlen rug and a wool rug?
A wool rug is obviously made from wool or a wool. These rugs can either be hand knotted (best quality) or machine tufted. Persian rugs are wool for example. Emerlen is a 100% synthetic Polypropylene. The rugs are air-twisted (woven) and heat set. It's basically a FAKE wool rug.
Q:I have a dark beige livingroom carpet and bought a dark brown (almost black) bamboo rug . Will it look right ?
Any rug can be used on top of carpets. You may have to get a carpet mat to place under the bamboo rug so it doesn't move and buckle on the carpet.
Q:hand woven native american wool rugs
I would contact a high end rug store in your area (the kind that sells persian, antigue rugs etc) or even by emai or phonel:Larger cities have many (such as NY, Atlanta, LA). Generally, the rugs might need to be cleaned prior to storage as grime dirt help to break down the fibers. Then they must be rolled (never folded) and put into unbleached muslin bags for cleanliness. Cleaning must be done by someone especially trained to work on vintage, collectable rugs (again this info can be gotten at a fine rug store).
