Q:first off i should say it is below freezing here....with that said, the water pump pulley is not turnning so.. the fan belt busted which leads me to believe the water pump is frozen...... right?i am currently traveling and have little money to spend on a new water pumpis there any way that anyone may know to dethaw a frozen water pump without damaging it?... i should say, the motor is running great, no cracks or leaks from the cold.
dethaw LOL! That would mean freeze it right? Apply heat to thaw.
Q:I would like to know how difficult it is to change a water pump on my mustang? Is it something I can do by myself? I do know about cars and can perform general maintenance, I am not totally ignorant to whats going on underneath the hood of my car I'm just not sure if I have the tools needed and how difficult it is to do. What tools do I need? Do I need a torque wrench? If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks!
sable wasn't a real bad car for the most part. Personally I am not a ford man but if the vehicle has buckets of rust and lots of miles then yes this water pump is the sign of what's to come. Breakdowns that is.
Q:Im replacing the water pump on my cougar but i ran into a snag. I got the pump unbolted but to take it off, i need to unbolt a bracket that goes behind the power steering pump pulley. I cant figure out how to get that pulley off to take off the bracket. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
it would have helped if you had given an engine size of the car the procedure is different for a v-8,and a v-6 engine,i cant answer this because i don't know an engine size,,good luck,i suggest you get a good repair manual its more informative ,and gives real good details also.
Q:My toyota 99 camry stalled and would not start. engine turned over and all lights worked. had the oil changed 3 weeks ago and they told me their was a noise and it might be the water pump. my questions are does this sound like the water pump? Do they usually change the timing belt and is this necessary? is this something that we can do at home? thank-you for any info out their!
If your water pump is the problem, the stalling and not starting would've been caused by your engine overheating. Hopefully that's not the case. Also, waterpumps tend to make a noise when they go bad, but the most common symptom is the loss of coolant in your radiator. The waterpump will began to drip when it goes bad. If you are getting the waterpump done, I would bite the bullet and spend the loot on a full timing belt replacement. My reasons are this: In order to get to the waterpump, all of the belts (including the timing belt) will need to be removed. This is one case where a mechanics advice on additional work works in your favor. If you replace the timing belt while replacing the waterpump, you will be saving hundreds of dollars in labor in the long run. The timing belt change isn't necessary, and you don't have to worry about damaging your engine if it breaks. your Camry has a noninterference engine so you'll just need to replace the belt when it breaks and you're good to go. However, replacing it while you have the waterpump done will save you money as I mentioned before.
Q:My car is 3 years old and it only has 18,000 miles on it and I just got it back from the repair shop at the dealership because the water pump broke. They replaced the water pump and something else that was recalled. But I looked online and found water pumps should last a long time. What might have happened to it, and what would cause it to break?
sometimes crap breaks. if this water pump lasts 18,000 then you have a serious design flaw.. or you are doing something as the driver to break it. But sometimes you get a dud, it happens. not to worry. that's why you get a new car, warranty is awesome.
Q:In this area (picture) its leaking quite a bit of coolant underneath the car it is heavy dripping. Could it be the water pump? Car is over heating .It almost looks like its missing a screw or something where the coolant is dripping.
Water pump. When the bearings go they allow coolant to seep out.
Q:Every time i turn off the engine i hear like liquid noises behind the dash board in the drivers side. My fan isnt working properly but i just took a trip...4 hours away.. on the highway the temperature would be fine but on regular streets my temperature goes high pretty fast..i have been putting anti freeze pretty often lately because it goes low but there is no signs of a leak anywhere. Could it just be that my fan isnt working properly or is it because the water pump is going bad? or both? I have a 93 Toyota celica
17 Years...... Blown Head Gasket, Fans need to be Repaired {A/C Fan on at all times with A/C on, Radiator Fan Cycling as Engine Heats Cools}, Thermostat Removed, Cooling System Boiled/Flushed Out, New Thermostat Installed After Cooling System Cleaning, At 17 Years New Radiator Hoses Clamps, New Radiator Cap, New Temp. Sensor, New Coolant (50%-50% Anti-Freeze Clean Water Used All Year Round). Hopefully that should fix it. Almost forgot; With a Blown Head Gasket there will be Water in the Oil, you should Flush the Engine and change the Oil Filter.
Q:I need a 12v water pump capable of at least 40psi. The only website that i found is one where you have to order a minimum of 100.
Look for sites that sell camping and RV supplies. It is common for a RV to have this kind of pump. You might look into sailboat supplies. An ocean going sailboat will have a pump much like a RV. Why do you need 40 PSI? 40 PSI will raise a column of water about 100 feet. Why do you need such high pressure? Most houses only have 15 to 20 PSI water pressure from a city main, half of what you say you need. A well pump can raise water several hundred feet to lift water to the surface and an additional 30 feet to provide 15 PSI in the water system of the house.
Q:If there were no water at the discharge of a pump and then you had just fed water through and measured the pressure of the gauge...would that be a different pressure if the whole system (both inlet and outlet) were continuously filled with water?
1.If there is no water at the discharge of the pump then there can be no pressure. 2. If there is water at the discharge of the pump, but the pump is not running, then there will be a pressure in the system. 3. If the pump is running, the pressure in the system will be higher than at 2.) above becuse it takes additional pressure to move the water through the piping. The flowing water requires additional pressure to get thru the piping system.
Q:So I need to make a human powered water pump... Does anyone know how to make one? Any websites that could show me would be nice.MORE DETAILS:The pump is on the ground...it needs to pump water from a reservoir into another reservoir that is two meters high and two metres across from where the pump is... The pump needs to be handheld too. What should I use and any good plans on how to make it?
The simplest manual pump is the lever-arm pump. This is just an elongated cylindrical reservoir, a valve casing, and a pump chamber in a linear arrangement. A piston within the pump chamber is connected to a link, and a handle which is used to pump the water. You can make a simple one by converting an ordinary bicycle pump. Attach an input hose to the air inlet, and an output hose to the pressurized air output for the tire. A good way to develop plans on how to make it would be to visit your local sporting shop or auto parts shop and look over their pumps. .
