FAQ

Im changing the water pump on my explorer. As i was unscrewing the bolts one of the heads to the bolt wore out and now its really hard to take out and its giving me a headache. any ideas of what i should do to take it out?
If there's tail of the screw still out ,use an alligator clamp wrench . clamp it as hard as you can ,then spray some WD-40 waite 5 minutes and then try to open it . If it brake from inside the trade ,there's no way except drill small size hole than the screw, in the screw and then use left turn opener wrench (buy it from auto zone or home depot) direction of the use it's on the Package .It is a left turn traded screw with square end . After you get ride of that screw for re installation use high temperature grease and apply to the tread ,make sure pump cap it's not deform ,if is deform buy new and apply grease to the washer gasket before install .
does any one know were a water pump is located on a 97 nissan altima? and where can i get a good deal on one?
[with the car jacked up] Follow the rubber pipes coming out of the radiator. You should eventually find a metal device that is connected to your serpentine belt (fan belt). This device is your water pump. The purpose of the pump is to run cool water through the engine to cool it off. It needs to be replaced if it is making noise or if your car heats up too much. hope this helps! :)
I replaced the water pump on my 2001 dodge dakota and I still have a leak coming from somewhere. I don't know if i put the bolts in the wrong holes or what. Some bolts were long and some were short. Is there a diagram that shows where which bolts go where?
There are 4 long bolts that go all the way through the pump and and timing cover into the engine block. The rest are shorter but all the same length which seal the pump to the timing cover. You cannot put them in the wrong holes. The 4 long bolts do screw into water passages though. What has probably happened is you neglected to put sealant on the threads of the 4 long bolts that go into the coolant passages. If you put those 4 bolts in without sealant the coolant can weep right past the threads even if the bolts are tight and leak. Remove just those bolts 1 at a time and coat the threads with RTV or gasket sealing compound and re-install them then pressure check the system. Best of Luck!
Well I know the water pump is leaking and its leaking fast. So I put water in the coolant reservoir and when I drive it acts fine but then when I stop and idle the coolant tank starts too over flow and spits the water out everywhere. Car still being at reg temperature the coolant reservoir is steaming/smoking? I can't tell which. But there doesn't seem to be water in the oil??? What's going on? If the water pump is replaced will this stop?
Hi... There could be two problems here. First ,the thermostat is stuck open, second, a blown head gasket. Compression leaks out to the cooling system, increasing pressure ... So ,no it won't correct the situation.
How much should it cost to have the water pump replaced in a 1994 Dodge Ram truck?
Seems some one has already given you a quote and you just need some explaining as to the cost involved. First the cost of a new water pump compared to a rebuilt is very little, especially if you purchase from a DIY store,i.e.,AutoZone, Advanced, O'Reilly,etc...just pay the extra money for the new one, as it usually has the better warranty. The cooling system is the most important thing to consider if you want the engine to perform correctly and safely. You should also consider the rest of the cooling system....Thermostat, hose, anti-freeze, clamps.etc. These are often overlooked and can cause a new water pump repair to go South immmediately. Most complete cooling system repairs can go as high as 3-4 hundred dollars if you have to replace the fan clutch or the cooling fans for the radiator. So do consider paying a little extra for the overlooked repairs and save yourself a lot of headaches and money in the long run.
Submersible pump and self-priming pump which is easy to use?
If the injection pump, submersible pump is self-priming pump well.
Car started making noises right after hitting deer, week later car that has never had a problem began to overheat and mechanic says water pump went out and that it has nothing to do with hitting the deer.
It could have had something to do with it if the radiator was damaged. This is the problem with new cars everything is hidden so you need to replace a half dozen good parts so you can fix the one thats bad. In the not to long ago days you would have went to the auto store, plunked down about $20.00 for a new pump went home and after taking out maby 4 bolts, had the new one on and been back on the road in an hour or so. If your not old enough to remember those days then it doesn't matter. Your going to pay maby 6-8 hundred dollars to replace a 50 dollar part.
Our mechanic wants to replace my husband's water pump in his 1996 Saturn saying it is quite loose. We'd like to wait until next week since its a 2 day job and with our schedules it would be difficult. Can it wait for a couple of weeks? Could this leave him stranded?
This may sound crazy, but I drove my car for nearly 3 months with a failing water pump. Fortunately, I live in a very small town and would only drive a few miles at a time, but it was still a major hassle. I had to carry a huge thing of water and constantly refill it, along with several times of sitting on the side of the road, waiting for my engine to cool down. You have to be VERY careful not to blow a head gasket by overheating your car. I don't know how bad your water pump is, but my mine was literally dripping water out as I was filling it up. I think if you wait a week and are very careful, you should be fine. I know all car guys/gals are going to disagree, because it's not the proper answer, but it's the truth for me. Good luck
