Q: I live in San Jose CA. I would pick the cheapest carpet and pading.
Carpets can range from 1 to 15 dollars per square foot depending on how luxurious they are. A middle ranged carpet would be for around 5 bucks a square foot.
Q: Should rugs only be used on wood floors?
Not tacky, but if you have elderly folks around, throw rugs are a definite tripping hazard.
Q: My house is 5 years old. The carpet looks like it is 15 years old (cheap builders carpet). I have 2 dogs (both about 50lbs) and a cat. We are trying for our first child. Would you reccommend the hardwood laminate flooring or a better quality carpet?
Here is what I have noticed with my friends who have laminate or hardwood floors versus those of us that have carpeting. 1 - Wood floors are very unforgiving with crumbs and such on them, you have to constantly sweep them to keep them looking nice and crumb free. When they go unswept they will actually look worse than most carpetings. 2 - Carpets with pets will need to be vacuumed at least every other day. While carpeting is forgiving and doesn't show all the crumbs that might be on the floor, you do have to worry about spills and the whole allergens being trapped in it and all. 3 - With laminate flooring, if you drop something on it there is always the chance that the laminate will crack and the wood underneath will show through..while something like Bamboo, which is a renewable resource is the same color all the way through. So, for me it is a matter of wether you want to vacuum constantly or sweep constantly. I grew up in a household where we had carpeting and dogs inside. None of us had a problem with allergies or anything like that...but, my Mom does vacuum every other day and would also sweep the tile every other day as well. I think it is sixes as far as work and upkeep goes...wood is just more popluar right now.
Q: What kinds of carpets hold up well with kids and pets. We have berber now, and it seems to trap stains and pet odor than typical carpet. Any suggestions?
Look at the carpets used in pubs and restaurants - they are usually an Axminster weave incorporating a design and colours. Plain carpets just don't suit kids and pets - every little mark will show. Unfortunately, the current fashion is a bland decorating and furnishing scheme which goes with the rage for the Japanese/minimalistic look, but isn't family and homely, friendly, let your hair down lifestyle. The most hard-wearing carpet mixture is 80% wool and 20% synthetic. A Wilton weave is good and is either plain or up to three colours - with the above fibre mix it will last not only your lifetime, but that of your kids, too! Can you find carpets made by Brintons of Kidderminster in your neck of the woods - they usually supply the big cruise liners, and other large areas which will suffer a great deal of foot traffic.
Q: My eight month old son just popped the lid and coverede himself and the carpet!!
Carpet cleaner and then add boiling water. After this, make sure you scrub really really hard and make certain that the carpet is completely dry, use a hair drier if you have to, because you don't want mold under the carpet. This should remove it, it removes most carpet spills except things like ink.
Q: What color of the carpet looks good with white tile, red sofa and black tea table?
There are a few black spots. The main color is white, or grey between black and white
Q: The smell of the carpet is pungent. What is the thing of the carpet that releases the smell? Is it formaldehyde?
There are very few exceptions to exceed the standard range. Some high-grade carpets has a kind of animal hair smell of mutton, low-grade carpet is made of raw materials of styrene or other smell of raw materials, but you have to see it is high-grade carpet or low-grade carpet if the carpet releases little formaldehyde.
Q: is it okay to wash rugs in the washing machine? it won't damage it, or cause damage to future loads?
wha ttype of rug i'd think twice about this and if you need to go on gentle cylce with woollite product.or ask the cleaners ps i heard if you put a bit of salt in this will hold the colors
Q: Im a single mum of three and a student so you can probably guess that i don't have alot of money!I went to a carpet store and they said that i could carpet a room using felt back carpet which the fitters can use glue to put down because felt back carpets don't require underlay.right now that seems to be my only option.i just wanted to know if anyone has a carpet that doesn't have any underlay and if is worth doing it??
If by underlay you mean pad, and you will be gluing the carpet directly to the floor, yes, you can do this. If by underlay (this is the way the term is usually used in the US) you mean an additional layer of material, pressboard or some sort of plywood, which is used to either smooth out an imperfect subfloor or to raise the level of the carpeted floor so it is level with adjacent hardwood or tile, yes, you can do this. I'm assuming you are talking about pad... The thing with glueing down your carpet is that it won't have that additional layer of padding for softness. It will be very hard and uncomfortable to sit on or lay on (like kids like to do) and as the pad protects the carpet from the grinding of shoes, it will make your carpet break down faster. Also, when it comes time to change out the carpet again, it will be more work to take up the old carpet before you put down new carpet. I suggest going to other stores in your area for ideas, when looking for the best deal, it's always wise to shop around and maybe someone will have other ideas or deals for you. For a residence, especially with kids, I do suggest a pad with a moisture barrier, it will help keep spills, accidents and dust from getting into your new carpet pad. Once these things get into a regular pad without a moisture barrier, they will never ever come out..
Q: I have a massive rug on my floor carpet. We have it because our carpet is maroon and carpet is brighter so during the day and night, the room doesn't look that dark. The problem i am facing is that my rug is sliding/moving (slowly) towards the way we walk. I have tried the Rug Tape that we stick under the rug to give it grip, that did not work.I am wondering what other solutions maybe. I will only Screw my rug to the carpet/floor if that is my only option. Every week, we have to move the swing (indoor), the heavy sofa, bird cage (we have pets) and other furniture to actually fix it and it takes a lot of time. I need multiple options if possible, but hopefully some of you may have had this and found a great solution for it. I am willing to spend money to get this problem Fixed. My option does not include getting rid of the rug.Thank you for helping.
If you have a sub-floor underneath your carpeting and you rug is a medium to high shag material, then you could use #8 x 1 3/4 pan head screws that will be long enough to go through to the wood sub-floor. Install them every 6 along the perimeter and every 12 within the area that is left. Don't drive them too far in as you want the head of the screw to remain high enough to catch the rug (not pull through). I would normally use staples, but in this case they would just pull out.
