- I would say that the most dangerous aspect of not measuring groove depth would be the reduction in wall thickness. If the groove depth is not checked, it is possible that the groove could be too deep in the pipe, causing a weak point where the pipe could rupture. Even if it doesn't happen during the pressure test, the corrosion allowance of the pipe is reduced to the point that a small amount of corrosion could result in failure. If the grooves are too deep the Victaulic fittings will also not limit the angle of adjoining pipes as designed. This could potentially lead to leaks. Although I don't think this is likely given the hydraulically loaded gasket design.

- I am a plumber and you do not want to use an all cpvc adaptor you are asking for trouble they will certainly leak. plus it is better to use thread sealent paste rather than the tape this is because the tape has a habit of coming undone when screwing the pipe together. If you mess up and put the tape on in the wrong direction you have to take it off and start over with the paste you don;t you get it right everytime. The second link is a picture of the type of fitting you will need. The first is to explain why you need a cpvc to metal adaptor not just cpvc adaptor. For a plastic-to-steel pipe transition (Fig. 3), you'll need a male adapter that will secure the plastic unthreaded pipe to the female-threaded steel pipe fitting. This adapter has a glueable hub on one end to accept the plastic pipe, and brass male pipe threads on the other end to screw into the galvanized fitting. For plastic pipe (CPVC), do not use the all-plastic adapters to screw onto the metal pipe, for these may leak. Although the CPVC fittings with brass at the threaded section are more expensive, they are definitely worth it.
