- Q:I live in a 9 year old track home. The house has 6 smoke alarms. While they all require a 9 volt battery, when the battery gets low it chirps. It is so annoying. Well if I wanted to remove a battery, it chirps even more because its hard wired into the house some how.Is anyone familiar with this smoke alarm set up? - I worked on a project this weekend. Lowe's has what you want. Here is my answer to another question: I've been working on a big project for the last month. One of the elements in the project is Casting Resin. I've used 3 different brands which are interchangeable when pouring one over the other. Today I used a two part crystal clear epoxy resin bar finish. I bought it at Lowe's for $22.98. Their product number is147376. It is 16 ounces of resin and 16 ounces of hardener. It comes in a box with two plastic bottles inside. You mix it as a 1:1 ratio. Very simple to use. I bought it and used it all today. If you have a Lowe's by you it is on the aisle with the wood stains and the polyurethanes. UPDATE: Polyurethane is a surface coating. It does not set up hard like glass. All it does is protect furniture from getting scuffed. It is not a firm barrier when little Bille slams into it with his mini-bike. When Uncle Bernie falls onto it with his tool belt it will be okay. Polyurethane does not set up like the trophys for the Emmys. Resin does. See the difference?

Clean the outside of your pipe with wire wool, use an acid flux smear over your nice clean end, Warm the pipe from behind your joint, apply some solder, while its flowing, rub the wire wool around the pipe to give you a nice smooth shiny tinned pipe. Clean the inside of your fitting well, and apply flux to the bits, slip the bits together, to be sure the flux is well distributed a turn helps. Now, gently heat, better to heat the larger part ('T' or Elbow) and let the heat conduct through. As soon as the solder flows, take the heat off, else you will 'dry' the solder (it will go a dark colour if you dry it) If it needs cosmetic tidying, be very careful.As you will use acid flux, give your work a good wash over/flush.
