Q: I own a Chinese made diesel generator. 10HP, 5kW, which recently stopped putting out power. The generator head has three separate power outputs; 120VAC (#1) 120VAC (#2) and 12VDC for battery charging. All three ceased output simultaneously. I've tried re-exciting or flashing the alternator, which didn't do anything other than make it knock when it generated a magnetic field.I've been told my voltage regulator may have failed, but I have no knowledge of how the AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) on the high-voltage side may work to verify.Ideas? Thanks!: Some have safety fuses or circuit breakers to safeguard Voltage spikes. Check also for a switch which enables the generator once the deisel moter has been started. A 5MW generator therefore requires about 6,705 hp. 6705/15 447 gal/hr in 30 days30 * 24 *447 321,840 gallons. Given that very large engines can be extraordinarily efficient, which will make up for some of the mechanical and electrical losses, a good guess would be 300,000 gallons

Q: Explain the operation,advantages and disadvantages of diesel power plant?: I am not sure what you are really asking about the operation of a diesel generator. You start the engine and connect the electrical load to the generator buss. If you are connecting to a grid or existing power system then you need to match the frequency of the grid. As to advantages and disadvantages, you need to state what you want to compare it to and how large the generator or system is.

Q: Hi and thanks for reading.I have a small trailer I am looking for a back up propane generator for.We have wind storms here that knock out power for days on end, about a half dozen times per year, so I'm looking to get some back up electricity, howeverMy lot size is SMALL, so is my trailer. I have a natural gas line, and gas furnace, so I only use about 1500 watts at peak times, so I figure a 3k watt generator will more than cover my needs.SOUND is a huge factor. I have the worst neighbors in the world and I really need something quiet. I'm looking for something with less than 60 ddb.I have seen a lot of propane generators that look good, but I dont know if they can be used with natural gas easily. I think so, but would love to hear if thats true, and they dont have the standby plug feature, which I need to save my fish tank, any know if this can be easily changed by a skilled electrician?Thank you. Q: Do they look any different? I can not see the difference and I do not know which trains are electric and which ones are diesel. If there is any difference in appearance, what is the difference?: One of the most obvious differences is that usually, (with the exception of DMU's, or Diesel Multiple Units, and railmotors, railcars, etc), is that Diesels don't have windows, except for the cab windows. Another obvious diffence is Diesels (as said above in previous answers) do not obtain power from overhead wires, or Catenary as they are called. Electric trains are a lot quieter, they don't have a sort of diesel smell about them, they accelerate faster, and they don't emmit any exhaust. Electric trains can also be pointed out easily if the Pantograph, or current collector can be seen. The Pantograph is a moveable frame on the roof of one or more carriages in an electric train that makes contact with the Catenary (electric wires above the track) and takes the power to the train, hence making it go. Electric trains can also receive electricity from a live third rail, or in some cases (such as the London Underground), 2 additional live rails (forth rail). A confusing point - Diesels can operate on track with and without Catenary, however, (overhead) electric trains can ONLY operate on track with Catenary. Likewise for thrid rail electrics, they can only operate on track with an additional live rail. Hope this helps.

Q: Did some searching, and found little other than single, model specific, manuals (either paper or on CD). The paper manuals are $50-60 each. Single model PDF manuals on CD are about $20.Does anyone know if a comprehensive set of shop service manuals is even available for Yamaha Portable Generators? (gas and diesel) I don't mind paying, but I don't want just ONE manual, I want 'em all. That way I don't have to go through this again when a different model Yamaha comes into my shop. Q: I want to shut it inside a small room, but will it not suffocate ? Which part of the gen set should be moved out of the room ?: The size is relevant. Is this a small portable set for homes, or a large stationary unit for a building. I'll assume the latter. Enclose it in a sound barrier, but bring the exhaust out the top and make an air inlet at the bottom that goes to the air intake of the engine. You may need additional openings for ventilation to keep the engine from overheating. You may be able to bring the radiator outside the enclosure to solve that problem. Make sure you have a very good muffler. Look into finding a better one. You may be able to buy an enclosure for the generator, check with the manufacturer. PS, you seem to have this located indoors. That is a very bad idea.
