- Q:I am remodeling a room and I'm not sure if I should put in the baseboard or the carpet first. Also, if the baseboard is first how much of a clearance does the carpet need to get tucked under?
- HK has it right ..You have to put the tackstrip right against the baseboard to stretch the carpet..if you put carpet first..then you have to put the baseboard on top of the carpet, which the base will not be straight then due to the carpet pile..this will also mean the tack strip will be laying on top of the carpet and will be on a cushioned surface that has give and stretch in it and will wobble around some loosing the nails in the tack strip..the tack strip needs to be laid on a HARD FLAT surface for the nails for it to seat flush into the concrete...It cannot be put on top of a pile of carpet and not have give in it..Your tack strip will be popping up within 2 months in places..

- Ask an honest carpet man! :You will find the only thing really recommended is water! NO soap (the residue attracts more dirt!)...Just steam with water, do NOT soak carpet, but keep it lightly misted and vacuumed up with a carpet cleaner...if the dirt does NOT all come up with the first cleaning, wait until it dries, then do it again. Dirt makes its way down into the carpet and will keep coming up as the carpet dries if you get the carpet too wet. Good luck
- Q:my rug is filthy ....we moved in after these people had dogs in my room and it smells like pee when it gets hot so i decided to clean it today and i put Woolite on and scrubbed it then water and soap on it( i didnt care) now its wet and i want to vacuum it up with a regular vacuum .. is this ok and will my carpet stop making my room smell since i scrubbed it twice with Woolite and water and soap
- It is best to wait until the rug is dry as you don't want your vacuum powered by electricity to have contact with anything wet. It could cause an electrical shock and you'd get fried. Also, when vacuuming a damp carpet, the floor debris mixed with the dampness can clog your vacuum. To get rid of the smell of urine, mix a shake of baking soda, one cup of vinegar with a gallon of water and a squirt of dish soap. Blot it over the spot and blot dry. The vinegar concoction will take the odor out. It has worked for me.

- For loose debris and bits, take it out and give it a good shake like a rug. For tough 'stains', I use a spare, unused coarse-bristle toothbrush to bring them out of the carpet, then wash it down in the bath tub with hot water. I would not use any chemicals. Use only disinfectants that are reptile-friendly, which you can usually find at pet stores. I have never put my reptile carpet in the washing machine, because I get the feeling it would probably disintegrate.

- I know this may sound gross, but buy some Summers Eve Douche, the Vinigar and Baking Soda, and is your cat Spayed? If not, this may be the problem, if she can hear tomcats outside, this may be her way of saying I wanna night out with the boys! The Summers Eve will totally get rid of the odor, and the baking soda in the douche will absorb any surrounding odors! And......you could buy a second litter box, and place it under the window sill! And if you buy a sprayer, and some rubbing alochol, it will keep your cat away from that area! Don't let her eat it though, it will make her sick! But I would take her and get her spayed if she isn't already! Perhaps she has an UTI..... We need a few more facts.....did you have a second cat who recently found a new home, or passed on?
