Q:My transmission on my 93 chevy 1500, seems to be slipping, or wants to red line before changing gears, what will a newer transmission do for my truck? will it accelerate faster? etc?
A new transmission will change gears at the correct RPM and do it quickly so your engine does not rev up and then go into gear. Your transmission may just need a good service and some parts replaced, but no transmission shop will ever tell you that. They will tell you that your need to have it rebuilt and they will charge you 2000 to unbolt it from the engine, open it up, replace about $40 in parts and then put it back in. THey will of course have some sort of warranty for 30 days and most of the time a shoddy transmission job will last that long. Best bet go find a NEW or GM Goodwrench rebuilt transmission and have the transmission shop replace yours with that one. Or Look online for a performance transmission from BM or TCI. All these options are about hte same price and if you have even the smallest technical ability you can replace your own transmission as it is just an unbolt, unplug, plug in bolt in job.
Q:can any one tell me if it is possible that i could change my automatic transmission to a manual transmission without changing the engine?? just the transmission and do i have to change the computer too??
i did a similar swap on a civic i had, i swaped out the whole engine to a 5spd engine it made it alot easier its alot of work, not hard just alot of work u dont have to change the ecu but ur check engine light will be on. simple fix for that is get the correct ecu, search google
Q:fluid is good transmission will not change out of 2nd gear please help need vehicle thanks.
Scan the PCM to see codes, can be input or output sensors,or VSS or solenoid pack malfunction, thus make computer to hold the transmission in limp mode (2nd gear all the times).Have to know which Dodge though,FWD or RWD?
Q:I‘ve got one of these brand new 2014 Nissan Sedans (at 1k miles so far) and am a little concerned with what I‘m seeing online.I‘m a bit of a skeptic and all I‘m see is anecdotal, more negative things about CVT than positive. And I get the feeling that people don‘t say anything until something goes wrong so these anecdotes aren‘t representative of the overall reliability of CVT‘sSo is there anything more scientific out there that takes a look at the reliability of CVT‘s?Any studies or mechanics/experts that may be able to tell what the failure rate of CVT‘s is in comparison to other transmissions? Thanks
I don't know if any of my experience carries-over to the Nissan . . . have a Ford Five Hundred CVT AWD. We like it - but heard the same reliability horror stories and have talked to many mechanics, the dealer service dept, and done some online research. The Ford CVT is no less reliable than their other auto transmissions - - but is unforgiving of lapsed maintenance. Our other Ford with a conventional automatic doesn't need service until 100,000 miles, but the CVT is to be serviced at 60,000 - - - reason: the anti-wear additives in the special fluid wearout and there would be excessive wear to drive chains. Every quick oil change shop we asked was ready to flush the transmission for us . . . although they were unaware of the special CVT fluid required, or that it has two filters that MUST be changed. If you skip service and the transmission fails prematurely, dealers don't fool around trying to repair it - - - they replace it and costs of $5000+ are not uncommon. We had ours PROPERLY serviced on time and continue to have no problems. As we expected the car gets about 1 mpg less than the conventional automatic, but that is probably from the full-time AWD. The transmission is a wonder: smooth, always INSTANTLY in the correct ratio (we have a steep, steep driveway and must manually downshift other cars - but not the CVT). We are disappointed that Ford no longer offers the CVT in the new Taurus . . . . which is why Nissan is on our list for next car - so we can have another CVT. ADDED Monkeysnot: There may have been others, but Dutch manufacturer DAF introduced Variomatic transmission in 1958. . . the patents for which were one of the reasons Volvo later bought DAF . . . and Ford bought Volvo !
Q:if all the transmission fluid were to leak out, would the transmission not go into gear/be totally unresponsive?
the fluid is what turns the transmission. without it. not only are you not going to go anywhere but it will also ruin the transmission
Q:I‘m most likely going to be buying a 66 mustang coupe, it has a 200ci 6 cylinder engine with a 3 speed transmission. I know the engine‘s good, I may or may not change it out to a v8 tho. I‘ve never had a 3 speed before, will it be alright or should I change it out to a 4 or 5 speed?
Change your oil. When oil gets old it wears out and it gets to thin and the engine will have a harder time keeping oil PSI. You cant change the oil to often, so being so close to your next oil change I would just change it, I bet the light stays off after that.
Q:What are the major problems with this transmission? What is the maintenance on the C-6?
Yes to the first question but is it the right trannie for your application. Heat is number one killer of all auto trannies is the answer to second question-all ways install an external cooler to keep it at a low temp plus change all fluid and change filter every 3000 miles is ans. to third question. Also never over fill.
Q:So I recently got an oil change and they reccomended that I get a transmission service on my vechile. They wrote that it would be $129.99. I have a Dodge Stratus R/T 3.0Liter at 38,000 miles. What does a transmission service include? Is that a good price? What does a transmission service do on my car exactly?Should I go to the Dodge Service Department to do it instead? Also it seems that my car shifts abruply to second gear (its an automatic) would a transmission service help this problem?
All can be purchased at a hardware store. Copper wire, brass fixtures and aluminum is easy. Zinc is found in paperclips so steal some from your teacher. Get Magnesium too. Also at the hardware store.
Q:On my transmission in my 1994 Volkswagen golf 2.0 with a 096 auto transmission doesn‘t have a plug to change the fluids so you have to unbolt the whole transmission pan to change the fluids, could i just drill a decent size hole in the pan and weld a nut on the inside and just create my own oil plug to make this job easier in the future? thanks!
My personal favorite is Sher-Wood but it seems like most kids play with Reebok twigs eh
Q:I have a 96 Yukon that has 205,000 miles on it, although the engine only has 15,000. As I knew would happen sooner or later, the transmission is now slipping and wont go into third gear. Aside from a new transmission/overhaul. is there anything else that it could be? or am i looking at a new car.
If the engine was replaced just 15K ago, have the trans rebuilt.Should cost 1500-1800 bucks parts and labor depending on the region you live in. Any replacement vehicle you spent that little on is likely to be a worn out POS and not a 96 with a fresh powertrain.
