Q:I have basic car knowledge and I do my breaks every time they need to be done but I have never done the Bearings. Does anyone know how much they would cost to do the fronts and the time frame to do it. Also how easy is it to do?

When you have the brake calipers off, just remove the rotor by removing the nut, cotter pin, etc (whatever arrangement your car has) and swapping new bearing for the old ones. The inner and outer bearings are different. The trick is packing the bearing. Which means getting as much grease in the bearing as you can before you install it. Basically, you get a glob of grease in the palm of one hand and press the outer edge of the bearing into it until grease has worked through to the inner rim. After replacing the bearings and rotor, replace the spindle nut and tighten just until it's snug, but not so tight that the rotor doesn't turn by hand. Then replace the caliper and so on.

Q:My favorite skateboard bearings are Bones Swiss bearings because Bones Swiss bearings are the fastest bearings I have ever used. I clean my Bones Swiss bearings with Bones Bearing Cleaner and I make my bearings fly with Bones Speed Cream.

My favorite bearings are anything bones. (Bones Swiss, Bones Redz, etc.) I trust Bones bearings because they're cheap, high quality, and they run fast. I have Bones Super Redz Bearings on my setup right now and they're hella good.

Q:what are moter bearings and how hard are they to put into a gas engine?

Rinse it a couple times with fresh gas , dump those out and fill with fresh gas , shouldn't be a problem.

Q:My Escape started making a noise at about 35,000 miles. At the time the dealership said it was the tires. I replaced the tires. The noise did not change at all and now has progressively worsened and now they are telling me the right, left AND center wheel bearings need to be replaced (at my expense since now the car has 42,000 miles). They did say the bearings are still sealed and there is no water damage and no other obvious damage. I think they must be defective and Ford should replace them as from what I understand it would be very unlikely for all 3 to just go out at 35,000 miles. I'd like to know if Ford has addressed this problem for anyone else and also if anyone has any ideas on how to make Ford provide the parts and repairs at no cost to me.

ABEC ratings for skateboard bearings are useless. They are only for very high speed applications and do not take into consideration lateral forces encountered in skateboarding. Couldn't tell you if Bear bearings are better than Bones.

Q:Front wheel bearings

You normally just check the bearings when you do the brakes. Then you clean and repack them. If you get front wheel looseness or noise, then you jack it up and check for bearing play, or hear grinding.

Q:This is a mid-1970's Schwinn. Obviously, if there is grit or dirt or rust I will clean them. My instinct is to use 3 in 1 oil if I must, then repack everything in good old reliable bicycle grease. But if there is just old grease without anything gritty, do I even need to clean the bearings etc., and if so, what cleaning agent do I use?

any other like item such as Park polylube 1000 is fine too. Dont use 3 in 1 oil it is too viscous and will break down as a lube in bearings .

Q:Difference between rubbing bearings and roller element bearings?

With roller bearings there are small rollers between the moving and non-moving part so that there would theoretically be no friction. Ball bearings work in a similar way.

Q:i need to change the bearing on my hyundai accent front passinger side, i got it all apart and see i need a press. would it be easier to replace the whole hub i so how do i go about doing it ? any link to diagrame etc.. would be appreciated

It would be easier to take it to a machine shop and have them press out the old bearing and press in the new or to purchase or rent a hub shark so you can do it yourself (provided you have a compressor and impact).
