Q:The rug is 6' x 8'

Try Duct or masking tape...not to stick it to the floor but turn it over....attach the duct tape to the outer edge of the under rug and pull it back until it curves just a wee bit. Not an extreme curve just a little....run the tape back a foot or two and flip it back over...maybe the pressure of the tape pulling will keep the corners from lifting. Good Luck!

Q:I need an area rug for my living room and here is a picture of my inspiration room compliments of Pottery Barn. The carpet in my living room is like a beigeish oatmeal color. I also have small kids so something that could hide stains easily would be nice. My walls are white and my woods are Cherry...suggestions? Any specific hints in picking out a rug?

just take a bucket of soapy water and scrub it down. take the dome light fuse out, open all the doors and let it dry.

Q:I have carpet in the backyard and my dogs have urinated on it badly an i was wondering if i put very little bleach in a spray bottle and sprayed it on the carpet would it change the color of the carpet?

A really good disinfectant for cleaning is to put white vinegar in a spray bottle, and about 1/2 teaspoon of tea tree oil (this is sold anywhere medications are sold cheapest price is Walmart). That will disinfect the rugs and prevent them from being able to smell their spots again to repeatedly keep going on it. The stain however needs different handling. Saturate the stains with hydrogen peroxide mixed with a few drops of dish washing soap. After well saturated let it sit 1 hour. Then rinse. The stains will be gone. Then spray it with the first solution and you'll be fresh and clean again!

Q:I installed laminate flooring in our living room this past weekend and where the laminate meets the carpet in our bedroom there is about 1 inch of a height difference.Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

They make transition pieces go to where you purchase the flooring. Tell the clerk what you're doing and he will give you the proper transition pieces. Good luck

Q:My walls are painted light gray, I am looking to replace my carpet. Which color matches well with light gray. I had a light blue carpet. Should i get the same color

Take a color chip of the paint with you when you pick carpet. Some greys have undertones of yellow or brown that would work with carpets with those colors in them. Other grey paints work with blue/green or are neutral enough that any color carpet would work with them. We are redoing a bedroom currently inhabited by 2 young adult males. I wanted to lay down a ebony laminate floor (almost black) but was advised that it would show every spec of dirt, dust, cat hair, and scratches would be more noticeable. So I will probably go with Cherry, which is more in line with the flooring in the rest of our house. You can always change the color of your walls, which is cheaper than carpet.

Q:I just moved into a brand new house to then spill bright red nail polish all over the carpet any ideas on how to get it out without ruining the carpet?

This happened to me a few weeks ago. Mine was the ENTIRE bottle that my cat knocked over while I was asleep!! I got it out though!! You have to use a lot of nail polish remover....this will make it spread a little, but for me that was ok.. Once I got out what I could with the nail polish remover, I put a mixture of 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 tablespoon ammonia on it and saturated it. After that, I put saran wrap over it and then put a stack of books on top of it and left it over night. This helped tremendously! Then I just used boiling hot water, carpet cleaner, and a little more nail polish remover to get the rest out. It worked too. Looking at this too. Made by Engineered Floors. Might be owned by Shaw per some research I did. Two retailers near me both recommend and say quality carpet. Curious if you went with it.
