Q:I want to build a room in my basement.I am just doing the research.how does the bottom 2x4 connect to the cement floor ?also, for the wall, how far apart are the studs ?
The 2x4's are fastened with a nail gun using concrete nails. There is also a strip of black felt under the 2x4. I would measure the room and determine whether to use 16oc or 24 oc studs for door placement.
Q:i am fixing a leak in the baptismal at my church. The pastor wants the whole thing glassed so it will never be a problem again. It is a significant leak, i just don't know about how well it will adhere to the cement. i am using 1.5 oz mat just to make a shell. if there are any other suggestions as far as what will fix the crack (its a big crack) please help me out.
No, fiberglass will not stick to cement.
Q:I was wondering if anyone out there knew the proper procedure for applying 1.5quot; of asphalt to a soil cement subgrade? I dont know if a tack coat is needed or not. Right now we are planning on a fresh broom finish and a single application of asphalt. Its a low use parking lot but I want to make sure we are doing this right. Thanks!
we do soil-cement base with AC or HMA surface all the time. Never use a tack coat. The thinking is have a slip plane between the two sections. Tack coat would allow the subbase to telegraph cracks up into the AC. The key is to have the right soil-cement mix at optimal moisture. Too much water will result in shrinkage cracks. With only 1.5 inch AC that could be a problem. How did you come up with a soil-cement mix design? How much cement? how thick in your section? good luck! Don the engineer
Q:Is it better to sink fence posts in cement or geavel?I keep getting mixed answers on this. To me filling the hole with gravel will not be as sturdy as cementing the posts in. Which is better in the long run????
I believe that it depends on the end use of the post. A post in gravel or dirt will move some while a post in cement will not or at least as much and as easily. I am in the process of building a picket fence and I am using cement just because I don't want to have to reset posts in a year or two.
Q:What is the meaning of 53 grade cement ?
The grade of a portland cement corresponds to how much pressure it can take after it has set for 28 days. 53-grade cement must have a compressive strength of 53 MegaPascals (7687 pounds per square inch) after 28 days. There are also 33 and 43 grades, which must have minimum compressive strengths of 33 and 43 MPa respectively.
Q:and yes i have asked that, does any whitening strips or anything break down the cement
The cement is extremely durable and therefore the white strips cannot harm it. You can use them and not worry. Usually the retainer must be removed by force or the cement breaks when eating something extremely hard. JAMRDH - a dental hygienist
Q:I have called to 100s cement companies in US, nobody knows about that type of cement even though I know such cement exists. Please help!
Try asking for cement m-500 it is a mix of portland cement. that's all I know about it I bought some quickcrete one time. It's great stuff you don't even have to mix it. Just put it in a hole and add water!! Really m500 is a quality rating(strength/durability)I am not sure of what it takes to get this quality. Some people in russia want alot of it right now. I don't know what it's for good luck and have a nice day.
Q:As there are many types of cement, i want basic types of cement
Type 1 - Normal portland cement. Type 1 is a general use cement. Type 2 - Is used for structures in water or soil containing moderate amounts of sulfate, or when heat build-up is a concern. Type 3 - High early strength. Used when high strength are desired at very early periods. Type 4 - Low heat portland cement. Used where the amount and rate of heat generation must be kept to a minimum. Type 5 - Sulfate resistant portland cement. Used where the water or soil is high in alkali.
Q:Ask the master I want to open our rural street. Inside to open a shop to invest in the 4W or so I saw the bank 2 hotels 3 Internet cafes 1 steel building materials 1 cement shop 2 hardware building materials 5 to 7. Once the edge of the valley Yao ordered the super-quasi-clothing shop 10 to 15 small supermarkets 10 to 15 food market a large part of the wholesale is 20 minutes every 20 minutes a small bus into the population of about .000 labor force daily wage of 100 To 120 small clothing processing shop in more than 30 per capita consumption of about 2000 per month, "every street .. Township Road," consult experts advice now that I opened a shop what Thank you Thank you more
You can open a small jewelry shop, or children's clothing store. You reference it!
Q:I have an adjustable basketball hoop with a base that you fill with sand. I would like to cement this in the ground instead. Does anyone know if you can buy post extensions for installing it in the ground?
I would remove the plastic base and cement the post in the ground instead. Just get a longer piece of pipe that fits over/inside the original one to give it the proper length. I believe there is a rule-of-thumb that says for every inch of diameter the pipe has you dig the hole that amount of feet. So, for a 4 diameter pipe you dig a 4' hole. As it is a basketball hoop (which will be moving) I would go larger and deeper.
