Q:how do you resurface cement steps?: First check the quality of the cement, it may be inferior to construction standards. When you determine it is good, then you need to rough up the surface with a tool like a chisel to give the new surface a grip. Mix a screened sand with some portland at a 2 to 1 mix and trowel it on with a steel finishing trowel

Q:apparently fault breccia is a cataclasite, which are cemented rocks. However, my notes say that fault breccia consists of angular fragments set in an un-cemented matrix of wall-rock material.: Pressure is the key factor in the formation of a fault breccia. The term breccia is used to describe the coarser grained types. Much finer fault zone rocks are actually clay sized particles. These can be lithified by pressure (no cement). Mylonites would be an example. Perhaps the rocks in question are a combination of the two. (?)

Q:will loquid elmers or rubber cement work better for glueing papers together: that depends on whether or not you want to be able to take the papers apart later or not. if you do then i would go with the rubber cement, if not then elmers all the way. another thing to keep in mind is that elmers glue is known to cause the paper to crinkle and in my opinion, that ruins the presentation of the whole project.

Q:Tell me about PVC cement glue?: The cement should be applied on both the pipe and the inside of the fitting. Primer should be used to get the best results. Once both surfaces have glue applied, slip together and twist 1/4 turn while pushing inwards. Hold for 5 seconds and your done. CPVC needs a different type glue that is made especially for it. CPVC is used for hot water lines while PVC is for cold water and drainage lines. Getting it off your hands is a chore. Use the brush that is usually contained in the can lid.

Q:I have a floor area of 4meter x 2meter to lay tiles. How do I calculate how many bags of 50kg cement do I need?: You don't need cement at all. Ceramic tile is installed using thinset mortar. There are several types depending on the particular type of tile and the substrate you will cover. Additives are recommended for certain situations. The tile manufacturer should have a recommendation for mortar type and additives, if needed. Mortar coverage is given as a range, and each manufacturer will state that range on the bag. A typical sanded mortar will cover 0.3 to 0.4 square meters per kilogram. A 50 kg bag will cover 15-20 square meters, so only about half a bag would be required to do an 8 square meter area. Mortars are often packaged in multi-wall bags that include a plastic layer to reduce the infiltration of water vapor. Mortar, like any cement-based product, will absorb moisture from the air and degrade over time. Two layers of plastic bags tightly sealed with twist ties will keep leftover mortar fresh for future projects.

Q:I dug out a place for fire pit. I thought some cement blocks would be good to keep things in order. I'm looking at circle, and I would like it to be about about 1-2/1 ft. tall. For these twigs and small limbs that keep falling out of my gag-gum pine trees. What u say?: I agree......cement blocks are an unwise choice. Go to a home supply place and get some large stones...however many you need. Set them almost touching the firewood!!......and then start a trial-run fire. Keep it burning for a good couple hours at least. The stones being so close to the fire will get really hot, which is what you want. If any decide to 'blow', they should do it now, and...you don't want to be sitting around the fire either, you just want to keep an eye on it from afar while you're doing other things. Once you're done with this, you should be able to set them in place at the outer perimeter of the pit and be ready for regular use. You see....stones and rocks can contain water. When they get hot the water will expand to boil.....so what you have is like a low-grade hand grenade, and they can crack very sharply and loudly sometimes. Often chips and pieces fly off and they can and have blinded people, and hit people in the face, etc. It's just a dangerous situation that can, and should be avoided. Cement blocks have loads of water in them. It's not a matter of IF they shatter or break.....it's when. Do it right....take the time.....so you can have a safe place to hang around a fire.
