- Q: its a used 2004 Kawasaki ninja 250 and it looks like its in great shape. i have heard that is a great starter bike and the only reason i am buying it is to go to school and back. my wife takes the car to work so i need something cheap that will only take me to school. i am 20 years old. in Texas its required to take the class before getting your motorcycle license so im going to take it soon. can yall give me advice on the easiest and best ways to get better? i have very little experience. i am going to avoid highways for awhile till i get some experience.
- Learning to ride a motorcycle is not that hard. The training course doesn't teach you to ride, you learn to ride by riding. The course teaches you some important safety habits to keep you safe while you learn on your own. Basically you want to ride around a quiet residential neighborhood (or uncrowded country lanes) until you have all the controls 'memorized'. So you don't have to take a second or two to think 'Hmm, now which of these doodads is the brake?' The slower you go, the more time you have to make decisions and react to situations, so keep it down around 20 mph at first, like 2nd gear. Have the controls 'automatic' before you venture out into traffic. Actually the highway is not as dangerous as you might think. Everyone's going in the same direction at about the same speed, each in his own lane (most of the time). Nobody is backing out of driveways without looking or trying to exit from the center lane. Accidents at a higher speed have more serious consequences, of course, but they are less likely than on city streets.
- Q: Recently my front brakes locked up on a motorcycle. I was told that the front brakes caliper needed to be replaced. The brakes stay closed and will not release. The fluid is correct. Is it better to replace the caliper or rebuild it? It is the kind of brakes with pads.
- I would rebuild it. It isn't hard, and replacing it would be like throwing away money. Get a repair manual for your bike and see all the parts that need to be replaced. Don't try to reuse the bleeder valve again either. Just replace it. Once you clean it all up, you will have to decide whether to hone the caliper or not. If it's old, corroded and dirty, then you have to, or you will wreck your new seals when you put it back together. The manual should explain all that. Good luck
- Q: I drove about 13 minutes (5 miles) with the emergency break on. First time driving this car so I didn‘t really think about it. When I got out of the car, I noticed the smell of burnt rubber and the back left wheel was emanating heat, then realized that the EB was on. Do you think I‘ll have to get the brakes/pads replaced? I‘m going to try them out tomorrow to see if they work after they‘ve had time to cool off.
- A good way to prevent this is to always set the ebrake HARD so the car will not move until released. You probably toasted the rear brakes. Too bad.
- Q: Review the motorcycles from 1973 two strokes and compare from today ; then which are the better bikes?
- It would take hours to explain them all! There are a few things that are key though; 1. Better brakes now - potentially with ABS too 2. Electronic ignition (perhaps one of the biggest improvements in modern times!) 3. Better suspension 4. Lower weight due to better knowledge of materials 5. More power 6. Better reliability --Mikey B--
- Q: Can you please just describe the test.thank you.!!
- You ride a course set up in the parking lot, usually painted on the blacktop but sometimes with cones and sometimes with both. You have to negotiate a full circle both left/right turning without putting your feet/foot on the ground. You must accelerate in a straight line, slow at a marker and stop without skidding at the last marker. You must be able to engage your turn signals while moving. You must NOT put your feet/foot down at anytime except where instructed to stop and remember a 'full stop' is BOTH feet on the ground.
- Q: A motorcycle is coasting along at a constant velocity of 20.0 m/s. The motorcyclist suddenly hits a rough patch in the road where the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.800. Can the motorcycle clear the rough patch on the road without re-starting the engine if the patch is 15.0 m long? If so, what will be the cyclist‘s velocity upon leaving the rough patch?
- Glass is the best example of ceramic materials
- Q: i am pushing dead air - it goes down to where it touches the muffler and has no holding power. i bought the motorcycle used a couple of weeks ago, it had just passed inspection. i drove it maybe 10 hours. i realized i was using the back brake too much to slow down - sometimes stopping without the front brake at all. do you think i screwed it up? i remembered briefly my teacher saying u have to use both brakes, or you‘ll either lock the front brake or destroy your back brake. of course, forgot all about this until i did it!! do u think that is what happened? will i need a new brake pad? can i make some adjustments to make it brake harder?
- First, I would check the brake pads to see how worn they are. Second, I would bleed the brakes to ensure there is no air in the lines. Third, if it still doesn't work I would check the master cylinder. It may need replacing if it is an older bike. My '99 Buell had similar problems and it wound up being the master cyclinder. Most bikes have simple rebuild kits to replace the seals and master cylinder as this can be a common problem.
- Q: I am a car blind, intends to buy a motorcycle, give some advice!
- Carburetor: carburetor with plunger and vacuum diaphragm type, now high-end four-stroke mostly vacuum die. Vacuum diaphragm carburetor can automatically adjust the intake air volume according to the change of the engine speed, so the fuel consumption is low, the slewing speed is smooth and the ride is comfortable. The latest technology of the vacuum diaphragm carburetor at the same time with multi-functional structure. Such as accelerating pump, inertia enrichment system, idle system, start enrichment system, heater and so on.
- Q: i've taken the caliper off and sand papered it and greased it so now i have to pump the brakes for the piston to extend all the way out before it wouldn't move should i just replace the caliper or can i fix it
- Be safe. Replace it.
- Q: ABS motorcycle braking vs. Traction Control Braking?
- ABS- Anti-lock braking system TCB- Traction control braking ABS- An ABS generally offers improved vehicle control and decreases stopping distances on dry and slippery surfaces for many drivers; however, on loose surfaces like gravel or snow-covered pavement, an ABS can significantly increase braking distance, although still improving vehicle control. TCB- A TCB, is a secondary function of ABS in motor vehicles, designed to prevent loss of traction of driven road wheels. It enhances driver control. CLEAR?
