1. you are going to need at least a couple gallons of water in a bucket to re-prime. 2. look for a plug at the top of the pump and remove it. 3. pour water into the plug opening, filling up the pump as much as you can. 4. put plug back in so at least one thread is grabbing. by doing this it will allow air to escape and won't be spraying water everywhere. it is also a good idea to keep your hand on the plug. 5. turn on electricity to pump. 6. when you start to notice pressure re-gaining tighten up the plug so it does not drip. It is also a good idea to have an outside tap on to get air out of the lines. Another thing is, it is a good idea to shut off water to toilets and washing machines before re-starting pump because small debris have a habit of clogging them up. As the water may contain foreign matter like sand, weeds , organics of other types you need a pump with a centrifugal impeller. depend on the height of lift, volume of flow and the head pressure needed to overcome friction loss will determine the size needed . A small sump pump type unit may work but they need to be immersed fully for cooling the motor.

You check the water pump by looking at it! Underneath the input shaft of the water-pump is a small weep-hole that leaks coolant if the bearings and seals are shot. If there's no leak in that location absolutely nothing is wrong with the water-pump regardless what you read above. Change the thermostat with a factory OEM unit. Remove the radiator cap when the motor is cold. If the radiator return valve on the bottom is brown and dirty the entire cooling system should be drained, flushed and cleaned. The heater core and radiator cross fins are probably plugged full because of years of not changing the coolant. Is the electric fan working? When the motor starts to overheat, wrap a gloved hand around the top radiator hose. If it's barely warm the thermostat is sticking closed. If it's hot the radiator and entire cooling system needs to be cleaned with Prestone Super Radiator Cleaner.

The electrical input power to the motor is greater again to allow for motor efficiency. This might be 60-90%. In practice the efficiency of pump and motor are determined from user manual or specification of the actual devices with the actual loads (head and flow).

Depends on what is considered efficient. Is running the circulating pump efficient on the hot water end, but not on the electricity. To me a circulating pump is best efficient when you add a return line back to the water heater via the cold water input. Also needed in this routing is 2 flow control units, 1 at the end of the bathroom return line prior to the cold water input. And 1 above the bathroom return on the cold water line. Then by running the circulating pump for 1 minute per hour you will have hot water almost instantly. Or just cap off the hot prior to the sink an add a instant hot water heater just for the sink I would of first tried pipe insulation, or even a pipe wrap with a heating tape to keep the pipes warm.
